Tawny Weber

Tawny Weber is usually found dreaming up stories in her California home, surrounded by dogs, cats and kids.  When she’s not writing hot, spicy stories for Harlequin Blaze, she’s shopping for the perfect pair of boots or drooling over Johnny Depp pictures (when her husband isn’t looking, of course).

In May 2011, her eleventh Blaze, JUST FOR THE NIGHT hits the bookshelves.  Come by and visit her on the web at www.tawnyweber.com

BREAKING THE RULES

Subject: Max St. James, U.S. Army Sergeant First Class
Current Status: On leave after a year in Afghanistan.
Mission: Take some R & R. Check up on a buddy’s little sister.
Obstacle: Sophia Castillo. Independent, stubborn…
and hot enough to make him forget she’s anybody’s “little sister”!

Max may be off duty, but he still has one last job to do. He’s promised to look in on—but not fool around with!—his best friend’s  kid sister. Only once he meets Sophia, all thought of keeping his hands to himself go out the window.

Sophia, however, has different ideas. A recent widow, the last thing she needs is another man telling her what to do. Even if that gorgeous man leaves her drooling in a puddle of lust....

It’s a battle of wills. Who will end up on top?  Max breaks every rule in the book to keep Sophia in his bed.  After all, all’s fair in love and war. And Max is counting on life with Sophia being a little bit of both.

Uniformly Hot!

Cat:  If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you’d buy?
Tawny:  A pair of Manolos

Cat:  Do you have any hobbies?
Tawny:  I love to scrapbook.  It’s the perfect balance for writing, a creative visual medium that I can fiddle with between pages while the scene mulls in my head.  To me, scrapbooking is all about character as well, and telling a story.  And it’s like the perfect answer to every writer’s office-supply-obsession LOL.

Cat:  Where’s the one place you’ve always wanted to visit, but haven’t yet gone?
Tawny:  Greece.  The sand, the sun, the water, the history.  Someday, I want to take a cruise and visit the islands.

Cat:  Do you have a favorite color to wear?
Tawny:  I tend to wear black more than any other color.  It’s comfy and it goes with everything.

Cat:  Do you reread your books after they’re published?  If yes, do you find yourself wanting to revise them?
Tawny:  Nope.  I don’t.  I would want to revise and it’d drive me nuts to know I can’t make a single change.

Cat:  Athletes are always trying to run faster or leap higher/farther, how do you stretch yourself as a writer?
Tawny:  I read a lot, and I find different things that I love in other author’s stories and ask myself why I love it.  Why does a character pull me in?  Why did I cry at a particular scene?  Why did this page of description paint a vivid picture, but that one didn’t?  And I then try and learn from the answers, and apply them to my own writing.  I also try to read (or re-read) writing craft books regularly.  I think sometimes it’s easy to overlook the basics.

Cat:  Do you link your books in any way?
Tawny:  All of my books have certain links in the writing.  There is usually a shoe theme (I love shoe) and at least one mention of the gorgeousness of Johnny Depp.  But otherwise, some of my books are linked by story and others aren’t.  My current release, BREAKING THE RULES is in the Blaze Uniformly Hot series, and my next release, JUST FOR THE NIGHT kicks off the 24 Hour Blackout series with other authors.  My next set of linked books is my own Undercover Ops series that kicks off this December with SEX, LIES AND MISTLETOE, then in January SEX, LIES AND MIDNIGHT and SEX, LIES AND VALENTINES in February.

Cat:  What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?
Tawny:  Sleep J  I’m always exhausted after that last week’s push to finish a book!  Then I get a massage.  It really helps unknot the stress and tension that builds up as I’m sprinting to the finish.

Cat:  Tea or Coffee? And how do you take it?
Tawny:  I live on iced black tea.  I’ll go through at least two gallons a day.  I love the stuff!  Unsweetened, lots of ice, mega caffeine.  Yum.

Valentines Party!
I’m so excited that my tenth release, BREAKING THE RULES, is on shelves now!  I loved writing this story, because it focuses on something near and dear to my heart – a Military Hero (my own hero-hubby was in the Army).  Even more fun was making this a Valentine’s story, complete with hearts and flowers.
To celebrate, I’m having an invitation-only Valentine’s Day Party!  Including:
A downloadable short story written just for this party as a door prize for everyone who attends
A sexy Top Ten to wind up my Top Ten tour: Ten Tips for a Hot Valentine’s Night
One lucky person will win a Valentine’s Basket!
All you have to do to join the fun is go to the Breaking the Rules Valentines Party page on my website, and RSVP!
Thank you, Tawny, for joining us at Get Lost In A Story.
Don't forget to stop back all next week for Angi Morgan's release party.

  8. Hey there, Gillian :-D Thank you!!!

Isn't Max yummy on that cover!?!? I mean, yowza LOL. Harlequin's Art Dept is fabulous.

Wow, what a great question. A normal writing day?

We homeschool, so my morning and afternoon are taken up with that, but I try to do most of my networking/promotion and 'writing work' during the day between those commitments.

I start my actual writing at 10pm, so I try to get my workout in around 8:30--both because it's the only time open on my schedule, and because it super-charges me, energywize. I start writing by reading over the scene I'm on, plugging in my headphones to whatever playlist goes with the current book, then I write. I can usually get 2 pages flatout before I hit a mental block and have to get up, move around, do something else. I try to have a scrapbook project going (my scrap desk is 3 steps away from my writing desk) at the same time I'm writing because it gives me an alternate creative focus. Color and texture and layers to play with while I think through whatever put the breaks on the writing. If it's not a scrapbook project, it's a knitting project or something else creative. Or worst case scenario, it's a snack LOL. But after about 15 minutes I can see the scene again and will start the process over, writing a couple pages until I hit a wall, then regrouping.

I usually write until 2, when I've been making myself stop and sleep. But if the scene is flowing or I'm against the end of a deadline, I'll go until I collapse, usually around 5.

  9. Hi Donnell :-) Thank you so much for the congrats!! I'm so excited about these books, I really do love the stories and the characters.

Not enough, yet, to read them though LOL. Like you say, we just can't let it go. I'm starting to get the urge to read some of my earlier books, though, so maybe a few years is enough time to turn off that internal editor? Or, you know, maybe I'd get through 3 pages and go crazy and have to stop LOL

makes me know that I have to read Max
and Sophia's story! (Sophia, whose last
name is the same as my maiden name. Are
we related?) Bookstore run coming up as
