"UNPLUGGING"

from Angi

Wandering around my daughter's college town, running errands at multiple stores including Walmart, I came across a puzzle. If you knew me, you'd think: Why in the world would you be looking at jigsaw puzzles...you have no time and should be writing. Well, you may be right. Thing is, I've discovered that working puzzles and playing an occasional puzzle game (like Mahjong) helps make my brain think differently. Somehow it gets me into the right writing mode for suspense.

The other major occasion I work puzzles is while camping with my husband. We work a puzzle to decompress and completely "unplug" (with the exception of some music). Our most recent puzzle was of candy. Not exceptionally hard, but hard enough. We picked it up because we were taking the grandkids to the lake during 100+ weather and knew we'd need some down time inside. We were totally amazed at how engaged the kids became and how often they wanted to work on the puzzle. Most of the time, it was what they chose to "play."
So...back to my searching for puzzles in the Waco Walmart.... LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
THIS ONE IS ALL MINE TO WORK.  >>grin<<

I probably read these books handed down by my aunts and grandmother. My favorite heroes when I was in Jurnior High were Greek tycoons.Come to think of it, I've always been attracted to a dark-haired man.

My questions for today and I hope there are lots of people to answer:
WHO is your favorite type of hero or what type of guy attracts you? or Tell me what you do when you "unplug."

I have several books to give away... several to choose from... and will choose 1 book for every 7 comments. Leave a comment to be eligible for the Random.org drawing on Wednesday.
Note: Offer void where prohibited. Prizes will be mailed to North America addresses only unless specifically mentioned in the post. Odds of winning vary due to the number of entrants. Winners of drawings are responsible for checking this site in a timely manner. If prizes are not claimed in a timely manner, the author may not have a prize available. Get Lost In A Story cannot be responsible for an author's failure to mail the listed prize. GLIAS does not automatically pass email addresses to guest authors unless the commenter publicly posts their email address.

  3. Hey, Angi! I love jigsaw puzzles, too. Did you know you can find them online? Every now and then when I need a total decompress, I go over to www.jigidi.com. (And no, this is not a commercial for their site. I'm an actual fan/user!) Hope all is well with you!

  5. I like puzzles but I Love Soduku! I got turned on to it in college when I was bored in class. Then it became an obsession I had to do everyday. The harder the puzzle, the better!

I am not picky on my hero but he has to meet certain qualifications. Fun, cute, outgoing, makes me smile, and real. I hate in books and reality when a hero is just plain fake!

Didn't have that website. I'll be certain to check it out. Might be a nice change from Mahjong...but I'm definitely keeping my puzzle pieces. LOL

  13. Hi backatcha Tammy!

Wow...I bet you can solve the whodunits really quickly. I'd be interested to find out if you've read .38 Caliber and if you figured out who the bad guy was before they were revealed.

  14. Carol, you are a writer's dream reader! Seals...my Marine (son) thought about being a SEAL for about two years (before the military)...instead, he's a life-time Marine, training others. Love those men in uniform!

  15. I really enjoy jigsaw puzzles....I use to do them to unplug from teaching teenagers all day. Now that I retired I just do them for fun.
If I had to pick a favorite type of hero it would be a cowboy but what do you expect from someone born and raised in Texas. However I also like military heroes and law officers.

  17. Oh, Angi, next time I come to Texas, I'm bringing a puzzle. How cool that your found that Harlequin 1000, and even more cool the authors on it. It's great to unplug once in a while. Our brains need it!

  20. YOU BET DONNELL!

But I might actually have a puzzle table, with one on it. Tim loves to build things and I've been talking about this project for years. Now that teenagers aren't over at the house all the time, I think it might actually happen.

  21. Oh my gosh, that is the neatest puzzle ever! And how fun would it be to have your own book cover(s) made into one.

Heroes....I like them gobsmacked by the idea of falling in love. It cracks me up when they never see it coming--and then they just can't live without the heroine, and it drives them nuts. :)

  22. I love kick-butt heroes, preferably shirtless:) And my favorite way to unwind is browsing through a bookstore because you can never have too many happy endings.

  23. HI GILLIAN !!

There are ways to change pictures into jigsaws...going to have to look into that. Thanks for the idea!

I actually started one yesterday afternoon....something to work on off and on....no can do. I was up to midnight working on this difficult thing. I didn't read the box, irregular shapes. UGH...still missing a piece of the border.

  31. Hey Karilyn!
I need that Mahjong app. But I'm afraid I WOULD play it everywhere, instead of hand-writing on my story when I have ten minutes. LOL
