I’m fascinated by the mysteries of human psychology—twisted secrets, deep-seated beliefs, out-of-control desires. Add in high-stakes scenarios and real-world villains, and you have a story worth writing, and reading.

The heroes and heroines of my Deadly Vices series, beginning with Deadly Obsession, are pitted against each other by their radically opposing life experiences. By overcoming their differences and finding common ground, they triumph over their enemies and find true happiness in each other’s arms.

Today I live in the Pacific Northwest, I’m people-watching, imagining entire life stories, and inventing all sorts of danger for the unsuspecting heroes and heroines who cross my path.

Jillian: How often to you get lost in a story?

Kristine: Every day! My husband laughs because whenever I go on a trip, more than half my suitcase is filled with books. I can’t bear to be without one even more a day. Now that I have an e-reader, life is much simpler, lol.

Jillian: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?

Kristine: I’ve compiled some of the songs I listened to while writing Deadly Obsession and a few more I came across afterwards into playlists on YouTube. Jillian: Describe your favorite kind of hero to read/write?

Kristine: My favorite kind of hero to read and write is the tortured alpha male. He can be someone in law enforcement, but he doesn’t have to be. Serious issues in his life keep him from being the man he wants to be, from having the life he wants to have. Until he meets the heroine, and then he falls. Hard. 

Jillian: Be honest, when reading 1st person...do you miss the hero’s POV?

Kristine: I do read some 1st person stories, but they aren’t usually romance. I love being in the hero’s mind, seeing how he views the world, and experiencing the development of his feelings develop towards the heroine. Men can have such a different perspective on situations and it’s a blast to explore it when writing or reading.

Jillian: What do you do to unwind and relax?

Kristine: After a long session of writing, I need to free my mind and wind down before I go to sleep. That’s when I watch an episode or two of my favorite shows. I’m a huge fan of Nikita (romantic suspense), The Vampire Diaries (paranormal romance), Parenthood (contemporary romance?), and TrueBlood (paranormal romance). I also like to watch comedies like New Girl and Modern Family.

Jillian: What is your favorite tradition from your childhood that you would love to pass on or did pass on to your children?

Kristine: My favorite tradition is the bedtime story. My parents didn’t read to me much since English isn’t their first language, but I read on my own each night. When my children were babies, I started reading my books aloud to them while nursing. As they got older, I switched to reading them children’s books. We moved on to reading together (I read one page, they read one page, etc.). They developed the same passion for reading that I have and are now both avid readers.

Jillian: What does it mean to love someone?

Kristine: I’m going to narrow this down to a question about loving a romantic partner. To me, this doesn’t mean putting that person first, unconditionally, to the detriment of yourself. If a woman let herself go and loses herself to being a wife and mother, she’s not the person she was. She’s not the person her partner fell in love with. Loving someone means being the best person you can be, being someone you are proud of and that your partner can be proud of.

Jillian's Gotta Ask Question: Kristine, we are both interested in adventure and in writing suspenseful page turners. I also love road stories, where the hero and heroine are on the run. Where is the strangest/most interesting place you have ever set a love scene? ;)

Kristine's Answer: That’s a very… um… interesting question, Jillian! In Deadly Obsession, one love scene takes place in a crowded bar. In Deadly Addiction (book two in the series), there’s a very exciting scene that takes place on a riverbank, although the hero considered going for it in a canoe  Yeah, okay. Neither of those locations are particularly strange. In these two books, I’ve focused more on what happens in the love scene rather than on where. That being said, a large portion of Deadly Betrayal (book three in the series) takes place in Afghanistan. We’ll just have to see what wacky locations I can come up with for a little hanky-panky between the hero and heroine. *wink*
