Bad Boy Competition: A Rogue's Gallery

To finish up the release week for The Seduction of Phaeton Black, I thought we'd have a kind of beauty contest for roués, rascals, rogues, rapscallions...can you think of another "r"word...rat bastards, perhaps? So here they are ladies, some of the baddest of the bad.

I googled many of your bad boy requests, and added a couple of personal favorites. They come from all media and have one thing in common: They're pretty (as in hot). They're enigmatic. And they're bad.
Some of these bad boys are genuine heroes, while others are anti-heroes.
Is it possible to prefer a real hero, shrouded in the mystery of an anti-hero? Lol!

So, which one of these bad boys makes you tingle?

The Vampire Lestat

"I can't help being a gorgeous fiend. It's just the card I drew."

Captain Jack Sparrow

"Me? I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It’s the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they’re going to do something incredibly…stupid."

James Bond

"I've got a little itch, down there. Would you mind?"

Sawyer

"I'm a complex guy, sweetheart."

Don Draper

"What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons."

Terry Sheridan

"You want to shoot me? Shoot me. Personally, I'd rather you do it... than them."

Heathcliff

"Yes, you may kiss me, and cry; and wring out my kisses and tears: they'll blight you—they'll damn you. You loved me—then what right had you to leave me?"

Spike

"I said, 'I'm not putting up with this any more.' And she said, 'Fine!' And I said, 'Yeah, I've got an unlife, you know!' And then she said... she said we could still be friends. God, I'm so unhappy!"

Valmont

"I ended by falling on my knees and pledging her eternal love. And do you know that, at that time, and for several hours afterwards, I actually meant it."

Damon

"What's so special about this Bella girl? Edward's so whipped."

Sherlock Holmes

"Now, Watson, the fair sex is your department," said Holmes, with a smile, when the dwindling frou-frou of skirts had ended in the slam of the front door. "What was the fair lady's game? What did she really want?"

Question:

    1. Johnny Depp did such a brilliant job with the character while keeping him PG!

  4. Robert Downey's as Sherlock Holmes from the list. And Val Kilmer as Madmartigan, in the 1988 movie Willow, has been my favorite bad boy character for years.

    1. No matter who portrays Sherlock, the character seems to be flummoxed by women...we're the ultimate mystery for Holmes!

    1. I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan, so...no argument here!

  7. Rhett Butler... You've got to love a man that tells you just exactly where he stands! Hopefully, when you totally mess up, at the end of the story there might be a sequel, and you find out He DOES "give a damn!".

  8. James Bond- calm, cool, suave, I'll scratch his itch any day.

  9. It has to be Damon... Not only for those eyes but just him in general! :)

Okay, so I'm about to start an e-novella for The Gentlemen of Scotland Yard series and my editor wants me to do a story using the crime lab geek, Archibald Bruce...who is a really nice guy....%)

    1. Bond is an amazing character. He is approaching three generations of fans and is hot enough to survive seven actor iterations!

  13. Out of the ones listed, I'd have to go for Spike. I love the musical episode when he starts singing to Buffy and the look on his face is like, OMG Get me out of here! Ha!

  14. Haha! Spike can be pretty hilarious. So many women I know just love him.

  15. I'll take Damon. :) Or Craig's Bond.

With Valmont as a close runner up. But not Malkovich's Valmont (I found him creepy). Colin Firth's Valmont in the movie with the same name. Way, way way more delicious.

HUGE congrats on your release Jillian!!!!

    1. I really have to watch the Colin Firth version. Dangerous Liaisons eclipsed Valmont and I never got around to watching it. You've renewed my interest!

      Thanks for the congrats, Maureen

  17. Oh, Daniel Craig's Bond. Probably. Unless Don Draper begged me. Choices, choices...

All of those quotes are AWESOME. Jillian, you do the best blog posts!

    1. Hi Simone!

Glad you liked the quotes, I had such fun finding them and picking them out!

I was a creative in advertising for years and I worked with guys just like Don Draper. Different Ad era, the 80's/90's. OMG, the stories I could tell!

  18. I loved Gerard Butler in Tomb Raider. My mouth is watering just looking at that picture!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Who does not love Gerard Butler? He's kind of the boy-next-door bad boy. Plus he's a Scot, lassie!

The Spartan outfit in 300 was good, but wouldn't you like to see that man in a kilt with his shirt off?

    ReplyDelete
  20. So, I love me some Gerard, but in this very sexy case (and a hard decision) I have to go w/ Damon. I LOVE Ian S. LOVE him and I watch Vampy Diaries for him alone (mostly)...sooooo yeah, gimmie some D.

  22. My favorite if Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow! What other character is not only humorous at times and totally romantic at others!

Face it, if Captain Jack showed up at your dock how long would it take you to pack and jump on board!

  23. Jack Sparrow is iconic. I'm not an ocean cruise kind of person, but sailing with Captain Jack? I'm there!

  24. HI Gjillian,
What a fun column -- I'm so sorry I was late to this party (and not fashionably either). I have to go with Jack Sparrow or Sherlock Holmes from this list. The first because he's so over the top, I would just like to lose myself with him. The second because, as messed up as he is, he would just be dreamy to sit and look at. And, I go on an adventure with him any day!

Thanks-a lot of hunky bad boys will fill the dreams tonight!

    1. Hi Lizbeth,

Sherlock Holmes is an inaccessible rascally eccentric, who becomes all the more fascinating because he embodies the word enigma.

  25. wow lestat and sherlock holmes ofcourse :)

  26. I counted them up and there are three vampires on the list. Perhaps vampires are popular because they are bad boys?

Or, does it give us an excuse to be attracted, because we can say, well what do you expect? He's a vampire...Lol!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh man, I can't pick between Jack Sparrow and Terry Sherridan. Could I have both?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Molly,

Two great choices. And of course you can have both!

  28. How could you leave out Angelus? He was such a bad boy! :-)) But yep, Spike is a great contender as well as Damon, an RD Jr as Sherlock *thumbs up*. I also loved Brandan Fehr as Michael in Roswell (eyecandy and troubled rebel, yum), and Cole in Charmed! There is just something about a bad boy that makes him so irresistible ;-)

Congratulatioons on the release of The Seduction of Phaeton Black Jillian!! :-D (ps. and you have the BEST covers!!)
