PATIENT’S CHART

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading? 

TINA: Wow, I remember so many childhood books, but I think the first ones had to be Dr. Seuss books, especially HOP ON POP. I used to think it was fun to act out the storyline on my poor dad’s stomach (I had the words memorized, after all). I’m sure he didn’t find it quite as amusing, however. 

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?

TINA: My maternal grandfather was my biggest hero. He taught me how to swim and had an infinite amount of patience in letting me tag along with him everywhere. My grandparents even took me on a road trip that lasted an entire summer—that’s pretty courageous, wouldn’t you say? My middle daughter has pale blue eyes, the exact color of my grandfather’s. It makes me happy to think I’ve passed a little piece of him on to the next generation.

ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?

TINA: Keith Urban works for just about any situation, I’ve found.

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?

TINA: I’m a “horsey” person, so I love the soft nicker of recognition that one horse gives to another or to the human he cares about. There’s also something special about riding a horse in frosty weather...the way a strong snort causes a puff of mist to rise from their nostrils. Very familiar and comforting sounds. 

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?

TINA: Do I have to choose? I like a little bit of both in my reading material! 

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?

TINA: I was an adult when I wrote my first book, actually. I’d run out of English reading material (this was before the days of digital books) and in desperation, I decided to write a romance. The finished product was a real stinker, in all honesty. But the rush I got from writing it matched the emotions I experienced while reading. At that point, I was hooked. 

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?

TINA: Wow, that’s a toughie. I think I have two: When Harry Met Sally and While You were Sleeping. I absolutely loved Bill Pullman’s little half smile and the way his whole face softened whenever he looked at Sandra Bullock. I also loved the scene when they’re walking across the ice, trying to keep the other from falling. 

As far as movies go, a HEA is a must for me. My kids will tell you the only movie I’ve ever liked with a less than happy ending was I Am Legend. I’ve never watched the movie Titanic for just that reason—even though my girls have tried multiple times to drag me in front of the screen while it’s playing! 

ANGI: Who’s your favorite villain?

TINA: My favorite villain. Hmmm, let’s see. Well that would have to be Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. Anthony Hopkins did a fantastic job with that character. The calm, soothing tone of his voice was so at odds with what the viewer knew he was capable of. 

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?

TINA: Ooh. Vices are those things that, while bad for you, are actually too fun to resist, right? Okay. Coffee and chocolate. In that order. Combined, they’re even more deadly. I won’t be giving either of those up any time soon! 

ANGI: How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?

TINA: It’s just such a hardship, you know... 

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: Without any spoilers, tell us about writing your favorite scene. Did you know at the time you were writing? Or did it happen after the book was finished?

TINA’S GOTTA ANSWER: My favorite scene occurs in the first chapter of the book. My heroine is terrified of flying and yet has accepted a job on an island—air travel is mandatory. What was she thinking? Her reaction during that initial flight—and the hero’s response to it—sets the tone for the entire story.
