Welcome K.M. Jackson

Today I'm thrilled to host my pal, Kwana, now writing as K.M. Jackson, to introduce her debut novel, THROUGH THE LENS.

K.M. Jackson is a writer of women’s fiction, and a former fashion designer. She lives in the suburbs of New York with her husband, boy/ girl twins and her precocious terrier named Jack who keeps her on her toes.

THROUGH THE LENS

Mika Walters is a normal woman working in the not-so-normal world of New York fashion. As longtime assistant to uber-sexy photographer Alejandro Vega, she’s tired of being the girl in the background.  Just once she wants Alejandro to look at her with the same smoldering look he gives to his willowy models and now she has her chance.

Stranded.

After a travel mishap where the rest of the crew and the models can’t make the remote island location shoot for another three days, Mika is taking her moment to catch Alejandro’s eye and put herself in front of his camera and if all goes to plan, his bed… at least until the real world catches up with them.

Alejandro doesn’t know what’s gotten into Mika. Maybe it’s the sand, maybe it’s the sun, but he doesn’t really care. All he knows is that he’s finally opened his eyes and is seeing her clearly for the first time as the smart, gorgeous and incredibly irresistible woman she is.  But why can’t she realize that what he’s feeling for her is not one of his usual one, well, three night stands?

What’s it going to take for him to prove to Mika that she’s the woman he wants? Now and forever.

GET TO KNOW K.M. JACKSON

MAUREEN: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
K.M.: This is a tough one as I’m a big movie-nista. I’d rather go to a movie and have a casual dinner than any sort of dress up date. I have a few favorites but on my always a re-watch list are: Bridget Jones’s Diary, Notting Hill, Pride and Prejudice… um do you see a trend in any of these? Something called the Colin factor?

Where do you most like to read and how often?
I’m a bath lady and I have teen twins so I always read in the tub late at night. It’s where I’d find my peace. I’ve learned not to get my books wet and now my Kindle shares equal tub time. I just put it in a Ziplock bag. I’m hoping a waterproof one is on the horizon.

What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in?
For me it’s a story with strong characters. Be it contemporary or historical. I do have a not so secret fondness for historicals though I am a contemporary writer. I love being swept away to another time.

What’s your favorite “love” word?
Adore. Listen to the Prince song for the reason for this and I’m sure all will be understood.

What really scares you?
Not finishing a story. I’m a slow writer with lots of ideas and I can’t stand the idea of a dream unfulfilled so that scares me.

Where in the world would you most like to visit?
There are so many places I want to visit. Egypt, but years ago when I could still explore the tombs. Tuscany, Venice, England and oh yes, Scotland. Gosh, looking at this list makes me feel like I really need to get out more.

What’s next for you as an author?
I’m thrilled to say that THROUGH THE LENS is the first in what I’m calling my Creative Hearts series. Crimson has contracted the next two books which will be stand alones like THROUGH THE LENS but have characters that you meet in each of the preceding books. I’m excited about this close to my heart series as they heroines all have creative jobs and come from my hometown of New York.

What’s your favorite hobby?
I’m a not so fabulous knitter but I love the frustration of it and the satisfaction of after way too long you get to say, look I made a scarf and it only took me a month!

Hiking boots or high heels?
Bare feet if I can get away with it and I’d never voluntarily hike. That seems too much like exercise and I now have mushy mom feet that can’t tolerate high heels.

What was your favorite book when you were twelve?
This is hard to say, I feel like I made a quick jump around eleven or twelve from Little Women which I loved straight to Harlequin Presents and Danielle Steel.

GOTTA ASK -- GOTTA ANSWER ☺

You’re a fashion designer. Have you ever auditioned for Project Runway? Would you like to be on a reality TV show?
Though I’m not a designer, I now describe myself as a former fashionista. Through the lens took me back to my past life in the fashion world as a women’s sportswear designer. And being a regular women (ie. not a size 0 or 2) in that world it was fairly easy for me to step into my main character’s head and how Mika could want to be the one that Alejandro was looking at with such admiration and longing especially when she was fighting the same feelings for him. Not that I have any real life experience with that. Just sayin’! Going back to the Project Runway question, I am a huge fan and follow it every season. But honestly I don’t think I’d have the stamina to complete those one day challenges. They are tough. Now I may be able to make it as a Not So Real Housewife of New York though. I can lunch and get paid for it with the best of them.

A QUESTION FOR READERS

Going back to that last question, I’d love to hear in the comments what reality show would the readers be a part of the cast of if they were getting paid? No need to be shy. I am going to pay one random commenter with a digital copy of THROUGH THE LENS.

  1. Good Morning and welcome to GLIAS, K.M.

My reality show? The Amazing Race. I love to travel and love the challenges (especially since they've laid off the scorpion/bug eating).

  2. Thanks so much to Maureen and the GLIAS team for having me here. I look forward to reading all the comments today. And Angi I so love The Amazing Race. Tried to get my hubs to send in a tape when it first came on. I fear now I'd never make it through round 1 to the airport. LOL.

  3. Hi, KM welcome to Get Lost in a Story. Love your answers and anything with Colin:) I love Project Runway, and am an observer through and through. It amazes me that people can make things out of something I'd never envision, so, no, I'm not one that could be a dress designer, etc. Reality shows don't do much for me.

I, however, suffer your fear. Finishing a book is of utmost importance. It's like throwing down a guantlet and no matter how slow, I must reach THE END. Thanks for joining us today!

  4. Thanks for visiting us, KM.
I'd love to be on The Amazing Race, too. I love watching the cooking shows and Project Runway, but I don't think I have the skills to pull off being on one of those shows. And Survivor, I'd never survive all the bug bites.

  5. Great interview! And now I know how I can read my Nook in the tub (I'm a big one for soothing, relaxing baths, too!). Congrats again on Lens and the next two books! Certainly shows Crimson's good taste.

I love Project Runway, too, but am not a real sewer, but I would love to be on one of the cooking reality shows like Master Chef (even though I'm afraid of Gordon Ramsay). What those folks do with challenges amazes me. But for cash? I'd give it my best shot!
