THE CREW GIVES THANKS

Wherever you are, whoever you're with, and whichever holiday you may be celebrating. . . enjoy the day and be thankful. A big heartfelt THANK YOU to all the readers and authors who participate with us here at GLIAS. Even though the Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday has already come and gone. . .
HAPPY
THANKSGIVING

Right now I'm celebrating Thanksgiving Day with new friends in Chicago. Tim and I went to the parade and have probably eaten too much. Our tradition of watching a holiday movie will probably begin tonight with IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE--a movie that never gets old. It's not our first year to be in Chicago and may not be our last. I'm certain we'll walk on the pier, have some caramel corn, and see our first Christmas lights. Thanks to all our new friends here and I really hope you're all enjoying your time with loved ones. A special hug and prayer for those who have lost so much as a result of the Hurricane Sandy, I wish I could do more. Whatever the circumstances, Happy Holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating! I'm enjoying the holiday with 2 of my brothers, their wives and children. We're a football family so we've probably got some game on the television. Everyone who knows me knows I don't cook, so I'm the designated dessert person. No doubt there's a pie or two on the table today!

I want to say I'm very thankful for my family (of course) for always supporting me even when I make stupid mistakes, for my best friends who stick with me even though thousands of miles separate us, and for all my online friends who continue to support my career. I also want to thank my Get Lost sisters for inviting me to join them this year. I've had so much fun here! And of course I'm very thankful for all of our readers and commenters. You make this job so worthwhile! Happy Holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our USA readers! For our international readers (including me - I'm in Canada), I suggest we all treat ourselves to a nice meal (with dessert, of course) in sympathy for the holiday.

I'm very thankful for yet another wonderful year. My family is healthy, I took a once in a lifetime trip to Japan in the summer, and my first book came out in March. This has truly been a special year and I appreciate every day of it.

I'm setting aside some extra money and looking at where I'd like to donate it before the year's end. I make donations as often as I remember, but I don't think many of us do it enough. I'm going to start my own tradition this year to be thoughtful and take the time.

Enjoy the holiday!

Hurricane Sandy:
Help Those in Need

The Red Cross continues to focus on reaching as many people as possible who need our help. Your help is urgently needed to continue to support relief efforts. Getting supplies and meals and water into affected areas is the top priority. Since the beginning of the Sandy relief effort:
  • Nearly 9,000 Red Cross workers have been deployed from all 50 states to operations from North Carolina to Rhode Island, with the majority still in Greater New York and throughout New Jersey.
  • Last night, more than 1,900 people impacted by Sandy and the Nor’easter spent the night in 16 shelters in the following states: NY and NJ.
  • More than 6 million meals and snacks have been served.
  • The Red Cross has distributed more than 2 million relief items such as clean-up kits and hygiene kits.
Please donate today. Financial donations make the greatest and most immediate impact, helping the Red Cross provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Sandy.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Jillian

My husband, Jim, and I will spend Thanksgiving Day at my mom's house--okay, Dad lives there, too. Maybe this is a Southern thing, I don't know, but it's always been Mamma's house. The house will be filled with family, and we'll all be stuffed with the fabulous, traditional Thanksgiving feast she'll prepare in true Southern style: there will be tons of food, and no fat will be spared. She'll try to get us to have thirds, and when we groan and say we can't hold another bite she'll say, "You didn't like it," with this hurt look on her face. But she'll know--she always knows--how delicious everything is.

For each and every member of our family, for the health and safety of all, and for the precious time we'll have together, I am truly grateful. Warmest wishes to all for holidays filled with family, love, and laughter.

In Canada, we celebrated Thanksgiving back in October, so instead of eating turkey and pumpkin pie today, I'm madly working on my manuscript for the third book in my trilogy.

But, I am feeling very thankful for the roof over my head and the food in my belly. So many people in the world aren't as lucky and the devastation caused by Sandy last month brought home how close all of us are to potential disaster.

I'm thrilled to announce that during the month of December, I'm partnering with Amazon Children's Publishing to donate copies of my book Deviants to Worldreader. Worldreader gives kids in the developing world access to digital books.

Using e‑readers loaded with thousands of local and international e-books, Worldreader provides children the books they want and need, so they can improve their lives. I'll be posting information about how you can make a difference at the beginning of December.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.  I'm traveling for Thanksgiving, off to visit my son and his new bride, and then hubby and I are spending a week in Las Cruces, New Mexico--the place we both went to college and the place we first met.  We've rented a little bungalow. While I'm working on revisions, Les can be out walking, running and biking--the best of both worlds.  I'm thankful my husband took a sabbatical and that we're using it to the fullest.

To all of our guest authors, readers and to my beloved blog partners, enjoy your holidays!

This year I have agreed to host Thanksgiving dinner at my house, something a little unusual because we normally gather at my folks' where there's lots of room and where we all have lots of memories. But, my mom, although healthy and active at age 83, deserves a break from cleaning and setting tables and fussing for the holidays, so we're moving the festivities to my smaller, rural rambler. I'm definitely looking forward to it. It's fun to have company--even more fun to have the leftovers! There's so much to be thankful for this year. My first book got published, I took a dream trip to England and hiked in some of the most beautiful country I've ever visited, I went "home" to Alaska to see dear, sweet friends, and I saw and met so many fellow authors and writing friends at two different writing conferences. My family is healthy and happy. AND, the biggest, newest blessing this year is that my son and his wife announced they're expecting our first grandchild next spring. Now I ask you--if that isn't worth a pretty darn big turkey celebration, nothing is!

Thank you so much to my blogging mates and to our guest authors and readers. This is one of the best spots on the web! I wish you all a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving!

For the first time, my husband and boys and I are staying home for Thanksgiving. Usually, it's a 4-6 hour trip to one of our parents or the other, but we've decided on a quiet holiday at home. Life has been a whirlwind for the Snow family the past two years, but as we look back, we see a master's degree for my husband, three completed books for me, and a new baby brother welcomed into the fold. This week, I finish copy-edits on the last book in my contract, and then we will be taking a collective breath and some time to relax together. I am sure by Christmas, we'll be back and it and ready for a festive family holiday, though :)

I am very grateful for my family, for my parents--who have pitched in without complaint to help us reach our dreams, for the many friends who have encouraged and cheered or lent a listening ear, and for the friends and readers I've gained along the way. And thank you to all the GLIAS'ers who have been so patient with my wacky schedule this year! Have a wonderful, restful holiday season...

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.  What glorious weather we're having here in Minnesota.  Any Thanksgiving without snow makes for safe traveling and what feels like a shorter winter.  This year my family has decided to go out for dinner rather than cook.  It was my idea.  As much as I enjoy fixing Thanksgiving dinner, my mother always tries to do too much to help and wears herself out. Afterwards we're going to look at vacation photos from Hawaii.  My parents took my daughter there for two weeks this summer.

There's lots to be grateful for this year.  My family and friends are all healthy and doing well.  I'm blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life.  I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.

  3. Watched the Cowboy's game here, too. Gotta say, I was actually rooting for the kid from Baylor, RGIII. Glad he won.
