Get Lost in a Story with Lisa Kessler's Night Thief

A beautiful thief, an undiscovered destiny and a love for all time...

After the fall of the Mayan civilization, Kane, an immortal Night Walker, has taken refuge in France for over 800 years. The modern world holds little interest for him until the night he meets the Golden Thief and is robbed of much more than his pocket watch.

Marguerite Rousseau is living a double life. By day she is the assistant to an eccentric French artist, Antoine Berjon, and by night she dons elegant evening gowns to woo French dignitaries before lifting their wallets.

Sparks ignite when Kane captures the thief, but Marguerite harbors a dark secret that could ruin them both.

Lisa Kessler is an award winning author of dark paranormal fiction. Her debut novel, Night Walker, won a San Diego Book Award for best Fantasy-Sci-fi-Horror, and also won the Romance Through the Ages Best Paranormal and Best First Book categories.

Her short stories have been published in print anthologies and magazines, and her vampire story, Immortal Beloved, was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award.

Lisa lives in southern California with her incredibly fun husband and two amazing kids.

Jillian: What’s the first book you remember reading?
Lisa: I’m pretty sure it was One Fish, Two Fish, Read Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. The Little Prince was another favorite, but I think I was older then.
Jillian: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
Lisa: Beauty & the Beast. I’m a sucker for a tortured hero and love to see him change when he loves someone other than himself… *dreamy sigh*
Jillian: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
Lisa: The Evil Queen from Disney’s Snow White. She epitomizes a classic villain who drives the story and when the huntsman doesn’t complete his mission, she’s willing to get her own hands dirty and take out Snow White on her own. Plus she does it with style!
Jillian: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
Lisa: Night Thief takes place in 1840 in Paris. Kane takes Rita to the opera house, and I was able to find which opera had opened and who sang the lead roles! Super cool for a music buff like me, so I had lots of music from La Fille du Regiment on my playlist, as well as a CD of Paris Café music by French musicians. I loved hearing their accent and the language. Hope it translated into the book and transports readers to Paris.
Jillian: What was the first story you remember writing?
Lisa: In first grade I wrote a story about a huge giant who was really nice and tried to make the people like him.  My Mom still has it saved someplace…
Jillian: What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?
Lisa: First off, THANK YOU!!! Their excitement for my books has been the greatest gift on this publishing journey. You spend months alone with these characters, hoping that they’ll touch readers. Every time I get an email or a Facebook message that they loved the book it inspires me to go write more!

  1. I quite like this particular blend but that's because i like both historical romance & PNR. It's a happy marriage! My fav would really be a historical fantasy romance.

  3. Welcome LIsa!

As a sister cross-genre writer, here is how I view my own categories: I write Paranormal and Romantic Suspense, set in late Victorian London. Without writing paragraphs on the subject (we can chat in person) what I have noticed is, I get readers from both genres but it takes them awhile to discover the books.

Great having you here today, I can't wait to start Night Thief!

  5. I'm a very big fan of blending historicals & paranormals. 2 of my favorite genres in 1. I really enjoy Kristen Callihan's novels.. and Jenn Bennett (whom is an author I adore) is also coming out with a historical paranormal. So I really look forward to discovering even more authors that do this! :)

  8. I absolutely love historical paranormal blends, they're so hard to come by! Although I'm huge fan of historical romance in general. I also really enjoy romance thrillers- contemporary or historical. Some of Tami Hoag's earlier books are awesome.
Night Thief sounds fab, looking forward to reading it!
