ABOUT VICKI ESSEX

Vicki Essex lives on a space colony with her husband, space cat, robot dog butler and a fleet of red spaceships…in her imagination. In reality, she lives in Toronto and is still working on finding a robot butler dog.

Tutoring Chris's son is the perfect temporary job. Except, Chris finally seems interested in her-and is hinting about a less temporary arrangement. GET TO KNOW VICKI ESSEX

MAUREEN:  What’s your favorite holiday?
VICKI:  Chinese New Year. It takes place in that January/February slump after the holidays, and involves lots of color, food, shopping, and gifts of money—exactly what I need at that time of the year.

MAUREEN:  What’s your favorite movie of all time?
VICKI:  The original Star Wars trilogy. If I had to pick my favorite of the three, I’d say Return of the Jedi. Because I love Ewoks!

MAUREEN:  Who was your favorite teacher in grade school? Why?
VICKI:  Mrs. Biggs was my teacher for grades 3, 5 and 6. She encouraged me to read a lot, and write as long as I liked. I published my first book, Too Many People in the House, in her class. I still have it! Read it here: http://vickiessex.com/?p=1724

MAUREEN:  Awesome!! Where in the world would you most like to visit?
VICKI:  San Diego Comicon. I’ve always wanted to go to “nerd mecca.”

MAUREEN:  Oh, me too. My dream is to go their as an author... What’s your favorite cartoon character?
VICKI:  Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. He’s one of the most conflicted and well-written characters on a Nickelodeon show ever. I’m a huge fan of the show.

MAUREEN:  What sound or noise do you love?
VICKI:  The sound of a spoon stirring hot chocolate. It clunks rather than clinks in a mug.

MAUREEN:   :) Who’s your favorite villain?
VICKI:  Azula, also from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I cannot say enough good things about this TV show.

MAUREEN:  What’s the most romantic thing anyone ever did for you?
VICKI:  On Valentine’s Day, my husband made me lunch and stuffed Valentine’s Day cards in my sandwich box, lunch bag, and throughout all my purse and coat pockets so I kept find love notes all day. Did I mention they were Avatar: The Last Airbender Valentine’s Day cards?

MAUREEN:  Gosh. I match made in heaven for sure! What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?
VICKI:  Blink.

MAUREEN:  Ha! What question are you never asked in interviews, but wish you were?
VICKI:  “Would you like a glass of Scotch?”

MAUREEN:  LOL. You know I’m willing to ask that one, any time!

GOTTA ASK -- GOTTA ANSWER

MAUREEN:  What was your favorite book when you were twelve?
VICKI:  I had a ton of favorites, but I’d probably say The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. It was how I got into fantasy.

MAUREEN:  Me too!

A QUESTION FOR READERS

VICKI ASKS:  What kind of heroes do you like reading about? Cowboys? Doctors? Business tycoons? Vampires? Werewolves? Working class single dads? Royalty? Playboys? Athletes?

  1. I like pretty well all heroes; variety is the spice of life. That being said, I don't buy books based on the characters' occupations; I buy because I like to read the romance, and, if an author can write well, she/he can write with ANY occupation (IMHO).

  6. I like most heroes. I just don't want to read about characters who are too similar too close together.
