Meet Rita Herron

ULTIMATE COWBOY
Bucking Bronc Lodge

Rancher Brody Bloodworth has spent years blaming himself for his brother's disappearance. If he hadn't snuck off to be with Julie Whitehead, everything would have been different—and he wouldn't have pushed her away. Now Julie is back, as an FBI agent with a solid lead on his brother. Although the past makes Brody reluctant to fall for Julie again, he admires her for being unable to keep her hands off the case. Before long he finds himself unable to keep his hands off her. As he prepares for a showdown with the ruthless kidnappers, Brody knows what's at stake if he wins. And just how much he'll lose if he doesn't….

What or who inspired the hero for ULTIMATE COWBOY?
RITA: Brody is actually a composite of real life people – with all the news stories about children who disappear and are kidnapped, I wanted to write about the effect on the person/family members left behind. Brody is devastated and guilt-ridden over his brother’s disappearance but he is heroic because he takes those emotions and turns them into something good when he opens the BBL ranch for troubled kids. He’s strong and caring and never gives up looking for his brother.

What or who inspired the heroine for ULTIMATE COWBOY?
RITA: Julie Whitehead is also a composite character. She and Brody shared a young love affair but were torn apart when his brother was kidnapped. Like Brody, she felt guilty and gave up her plans for vet school to become an FBI agent and save others. I think her choices show the depth of her love for Brody, and also her strength in using those emotions to drive her to do good things.

Is there a hero you’re just dying to write about for Intrigue?
RITA: I’d love to write a Jason Bourne character. No matter how many times my husband and I have watched that trilogy, we’re glued to the set when it comes on!

Where would your hero “pop the question” to your heroine (hopefully no story spoilers)?
RITA: Probably in a mountain cabin on a snowy day.

What’s the perfect Valentine’s Day date for your characters from ULTIMATE COWBOY?
RITA: A ride across the ranch and a picnic by the creek. Both love the outdoors and horses!

GOTTA ASK: If you had to choose a movie to describe ULTIMATE COWBOY, which would it be?
RITA’S GOTTA ANSWER:   Honestly I can't think of a movie to describe it - trying to think of  a western but can't. Maybe True Grit meets the kidnapping case of Elizabeth Smart?

  1. Hi Rita--welcome to Intrigue Week at GLIAS. I have to admit, since I'm such a contemporary single title freak I've only picked up Intrigues here and there rather than been a regular reader of them. This week is sure changing that and I'm telling you--you had me at your cover! Then your premise--whoo baby! I'm off to get the whole series of books! I think Brody sounds like my kind of hero--tortured yet tender-hearted. And Julie sounds determined and smart. I'm no help in suggesting what should come next--just know I'll be checking out whatever you do!

  2. You are a new author for me, so don't have a specific series or book. But I do love cowboy romances and would love to see another cowboy story.
    Thanks for the great giveaway.

  3. Hi Rita,

I love your books. You have been writing about Cowboys lately. I would love for you to go back to some of your edgier stories like Silent Night Sanctuary.

  5. Hi, Rita! Welcome to Get Lost in a Story. All of your covers are fantastic, and I love that you play upon events that happen in real life to write your stories. What would I like to see from you next. Well, I'd like to see how you'd turn the Jason Bourne story into your wonderful voice. Best wishes!

I like all kinds of Intrigue Heroes. I really like the sound of your Bucking Bronc Lodge series and will have to check it out. I don't know what to tell you to write next. But if you want to write a Jason Bourne spy type I would think that would be great.
