As we get to know Barb, let me congratulate her on her recent sale to HARLEQUIN INTRIGUE!  WaY To Go, Barb!  

DONNELL:  Welcome to Get Lost in a Story, Barb.  I'm reading Gone right now and the blurb only touches the surface about what Elizabeth Walker goes through.  So, fess up.  Are you this intense in real life?

BARB:  Thank you so much for hosting me today, Donnell! I love to laugh and my family tells me I’m funny. But don’t trust them…they might be crazy. In all seriousness, I do have an intense, thoughtful side. I try to keep it tucked away at parties.

 DONNELL:  I think we have something in common.  Our boys played/play basketball.  Are there a bunch of sports’ nuts running around your house?

BARB:  No one’s training for the Olympics, but my husband played football in high school (he would want me to tell you he started both ways, lol) and volleyball in college. I was a gymnast when I was young and grew up playing all kinds of sports. I did a short stint as a soccer referee and covered the sports’ beat for my college newspaper. Our junior high son got us into basketball in a big way! We play all the time. I don’t even bother to put out breakable objects around my house because there’s likely to be a ball bouncing or sailing through the air at any given moment.

DONNELL:  Speaking of houses, what’s your favorite room in yours – and where do you slink off to when you want to be alone?

BARB:  I’d have to say my all-time favorite room is the kitchen. I love to cook! Alone? What’s that? I have young kids at home…there’s no alone.  J I grew up the youngest of three, so I’m used to chaos. I can tune out almost any noise. I escape in books and I can be pretty much anywhere.  

DONNELL:  If you had to name your most important sense, what would it be?

BARB:  Sight. Observation is a powerful tool for a writer.

 DONNELL:  What authors have influenced your writing?

BARB:  I learn something from every author I read. A few names that immediately come to mind are: Sandra Brown, Stephen J. Cannell, and Linda Castillo. Harlequin Intrigue has a stable of great writers I read and learn from every month. HelenKay Dimon, Paula Graves, Rebecca York just to name a few. And, of course, my fabulous CP, Jerrie Alexander, probably influences me the most.   INTERVIEWER'S NOTE & DONNELL'S BAD... Barb mentioned the intrepid Angi Morgan, and hanging head shamelessly here, Interviewer left her out.  My apologies to both Barb and Angi.  I remain both of your fan girls, however! ;)

 DONNELL:  What’s the most unusual thing you have in your closet?

BARB:  My lawyer has advised me not to answer this question. Next? Just kidding, I have a long flowing sundress with bright orange flowers on it. Someone talked me into buying it. I promise.

DONNELL:  What is something you would love readers to know about you?

BARB:  That I love hearing from them. Getting an e-mail or Facebook post from a reader totally brightens my day.
