Folks, help me welcome Kate Meader to our lovely little blog. I'm excited for you to get to know her better, so let's get to it!
WHO
IS KATE?
Kate Meader writes
contemporary romance that serves up delicious food, to-die-for heroes, and
heroines with a dash of sass. Originally from Ireland, she cut her romance
reader teeth on Catherine Cookson and Jilly Cooper novels, with some Mills
& Boons thrown in for variety. Give her tales about brooding mill owners,
oversexed equestrians, and men who can rock an apron, and she’s there. She has a bachelor’s in law (useless), a
master’s in history (not as
useless), and another master’s in library and
information science (yay, using). When not writing about men who cook and the
women who drool over them, she works in an academic library. Her stories are
set in her adopted home town of Chicago, a city made for food, romance, and
laughter – and where she met
her own sexy hero. For news, excerpts, and recipes, check out her website at http://www.katemeader.com.

Get
into the bedroom
Jack Kilroy’s celebrity has left him feeling used and used up. While Lili’s oh-so-sexy moans when she tastes his delicious creations turn him on, he’s even more aroused by how unimpressed this beautiful, funny woman is with his fame. He knows they could be amazing together, if she could only see past his bitch fork-wielding fan base. Now, as he’s about to start a new prime time TV cooking show, can Jack convince Lili to realize her own ambitions – and turn up the heat in his kitchen?

ALEXA:
How often to you get lost in a story?
KATE:
All the time! Both the one I’m writing and the one (or two or three) I’m
reading. True story: Although I’ve lived in the U.S. for almost twenty years, I
only became a U.S. citizen three years ago. The 2012 Presidential election was
my first time exercising my right to vote, so my husband and I were standing in
line to vote at a local community center with trapeze students swinging over
our heads (long story…) and I was reading Kristan Higgins’
My One and Only on my phone. As we got closer to the voting room, I
became so engrossed that I barely noticed my husband asking me “what’s
wrong?” I was so lost in the story that I hadn’t
even realized I had started crying. Feeling a touch foolish, I claimed that the
emotion of voting in my first Presidential election had left me all verklempt! Sure,
first time voting was meaningful, but probably not enough to make me tear up –
Kristan Higgins will do that to me, though!
ALEXA:
Where do you read and how often?
KATE: On the bus, on the sofa, in bed, at the dinner table, in line to vote – if I have a hand free to hold my phone or Kindle, I will be reading!

ALEXA:
What sound or noise do you love?
KATE:
Hey, I’ll never make it to Inside the Actors’ Studio but I feel like I have with this question. Those
famous actor folks always say “children’s laughter” or “water tripping of a unicorn’s
mane” but I’m not that sweet ;) So yes, James Lipton, I mean
Alexa, I’m going to go with the clink of glasses in
celebration!
ALEXA:
Ah yes, clinking glasses is a GREAT sound! Now, Die Hard or Die Harder?
KATE:
“Shoot the glass!” Hans Gruber all the way, baby! (That’s
Alan Rickman in Die Hard, in case you’re wondering)
ALEXA:
What was the first story you remember writing?
KATE:
When I was about 11 years old, I wrote a time travel story that won first place
in a contest at my local public library. The only thing I remember about it is that
my heroine got back to her own time after a nasty fall down the stairs! Yep,
traumatic brain injury will do it.
ALEXA:
What's your favorite movie of all time?
KATE:
I’m a big fan of the screwball comedies of the 30s
and 40s, such as His Girl Friday, and
Hitchcock is a god (Cary Grant in North
by Northwest is my favorite movie hero), but the one movie I will watch
anytime I come across it on cable is An
Affair to Remember, the Cary Grant/Deborah Kerr version. Um, I’m
seeing a pattern here. *Hi, my name is Kate and I’m a Cary Grant-aholic* That moment near the end
when CG realizes why DK didn’t make their date at the Empire State Building
turns me to a blubbery mess. Every. Single. Time.
ALEXA:
How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?
KATE:
Awful! I mean, they’re hot and all but they’re
so needy with their deep-seated problems and their unrelenting sexiness. And
they refuse to cooperate with their mistress who really knows what’s
best for them. Oh, but I love them all the same.
ALEXA: Tea or Coffee? And how do you take it?
KATE:
Despite my four years as a Starbucks barista, I’ve always been a tea person. I grew up in Ireland
where 5-10 cups a day is not unheard of (my mother still lives in the old
country and she’s a tea fiend). Now I stick to two cups a day, and
my preference is for Earl Grey with a splash of skim.
ALEXA:
My mom's English. I'm right there with ya on the tea! Which of your characters would you most/least like to invite to dinner, and why?
KATE:
I’d love to invite Jack Kilroy, my uber confident,
sexy celebrity chef to dinner but more than that…I’d want him to cook for me! Jack knows that the way
to the heart of Lili, my heroine is through her stomach, and he’s
not afraid to pull out all the stops to get there. One of the things I love
about Jack is that he’s more emotionally well-adjusted than my heroine.
He’s what I call a “happy alpha” – an ambitious, driven guy who sees what he wants
and goes for it, and isn’t afraid to poke and prod to get at the real woman
behind the smart mouth.
ALEXA: What’s up next for you, Kate?
KATE: ALL

ReplyDeleteI've been a US citizen my whole life, and I felt like crying the last time I voted...
ReplyDeleteUse that emotion for good, Teri (i.e. to write and make money- LOL)
DeleteI don't remember the meal so much as the fact that he also baked me a rum cake - which was absolutely yummy!
ReplyDeleteA rum cake might make you forget a meal for sure, Karen!
DeleteI'd say no
ReplyDeletebn100candg at hotmail dot com
Oh no, sounds like your S.O. needs to read more romance... or cooking books :)
DeleteI'd say pasta. It's easy and so Lady and the Trampish. LOL

Yes, pasta, especially spaghetti strands slurped from both ends can be drool-worthy! Thanks for sharing, Marcy.
DeleteMy husband would never cook for me. He loves me and doesn't want me to die. Fortunately he has other less life-threatening skills.
ReplyDeleteHa, Regina, I hear you! My husband isn't much of a whizz in the kitchen but he does know how to bake. If your hubby's useful with power tools or loading dishwashers, then be thankful for small mercies.
