Get Lost with Jessica Scott!

Today, I'm excited to welcome Jessica Scott to the blog.  I read her first book, Because of You, a couple of years ago, and became an instant fan.  I had a 'squee' moment when I met her at the RWA National conference in 2012, and I may have to engage in a little benign stalking at the 2014 RWA National conference this July... :)  Without further ado, let's talk about Jessica's newest release!

Meet Jessica!

USA Today Bestselling author Jessica Scott is a career army officer, mother of two daughters, three cats and three dogs, wife to a career NCO and wrangler of all things stuffed and fluffy. She is a terrible cook and even worse housekeeper, but she's a pretty good shot with her assigned weapon and someone liked some of the stuff she wrote. Somehow, her children are pretty well adjusted and her husband still loves her, despite burned water and a messy house.

Grand Central Publishing is the publisher behind the first single title Coming Home novels Back to You, All For You, and It's Always Been You.

She's also written for the New York Times At War Blog, PBS Point of View Regarding War, and IAVA. She deployed to Iraq in 2009 as part of OIF/New Dawn and has had the honor of serving as a company commander at Fort Hood, Texas twice.

Let's get to the fun stuff!

Lara: How often to you get lost in a story?

Jessica: Like one that I write or one that I'm reading? I don't get to fall into the page very often these days but one of my go to reads is Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series. 

Lara: Who’s your favorite villain?

Jessica: It's a toss up between Bane and Heath Ledger's Joker. Both are just fantastic. [Lara: I'm a huge Batman fan!  Both the Joker and Bane were such great villains!]

Lara: What is your biggest vice?

Jessica: Chocolate. [Lara: I can definitely relate to that!]

Lara: What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?

Jessica: Start the next book.  [Lara: Easier to work when you still have the momentum going!]

Lara: What drew you to write in the genre you do?

Jessica: There were stories that I felt like I needed to tell about soldiers coming home from war.

Lara: What has surprised you the most about being published?

Jessica: That the insecurity doesn't go away.

Lara’s GOTTA ASK:  How did you come up with the idea for your book?

Jessica’s GOTTA ANSWER: I start with a character and go from there. Usually a scene starts me off and I write until it's exhausted. Then it's a matter of figuring out if it's a whole story or not.
