TGIF! Get Lost In Something New

What does the crew have in store for our readers?

Some awesome new releases...and free books!

Liz Selvig

I’m excited to be part of the crew here at Get Lost in a Story. The women of GLIAS are my peers, friends, and huge inspirations. In addition, they have such a great understanding of what’s most important to both readers AND writers, and that is getting lost in a great story!

This month, I have a new release out. Beauty and the Brit, a contemporary romance—3rd in the Kennison Falls series (David from Rescued by a Stranger, my RITA finalist).

Beauty and the Brit is available in e-book right now; the paperback can be pre-ordered and will release September 30th.  I'm giving away an ebook in the raffle today. Here's a blurb:

Tough and self-reliant Rio Montoya has looked after her two siblings for most of their lives. But when a gang leader makes threats against her sister Bonnie, even Rio isn’t prepared for the storm that could destroy her family. When their dreams are shattered in one dangerous moment, Rio seeks refuge for her family at a peaceful horse farm in the small town of Kennison Falls, MN.

Rio should feel safe in Kennison Falls, but her budding romance with the stable’s owner, handsome British ex-pat David Pitts-Matherson, feels as dangerous as her past. The incredibly sexy David is as far from her type as any man could get, yet he tempts Rio in a way she never expected. But Rio knows that her time in Kennison Falls is limited, that her family is still in danger, and that she and David come from completely different worlds—a recipe for disaster.

David has his own secrets, and even the sparks he feels flying with the  fiery and beautiful Rio might not be enough for him to let her into his heart. Can the beauty and the Brit ever find common ground? Or will their pasts stand in the way of true love?

Good Guys Wear Black, is Book #4 in the Kennison Falls series (Dewey’s story!)  It’s available for pre-order now. Release date is October 14th.

Dewey Mitchell loves three things:  fixing old cars, football, and family. Although an illness robbed him of his NFL dreams and his hopes for a big family of his own, he’s made himself content working the family business and coaching middle school football. But when  his town’s vibrant new librarian and her young, emotionally-challenged son burst into his ordered life, Dewey finds himself inexplicably drawn to the fascinating woman

Boston-born Rose Hanrehan had no idea how different living in a small town would be. But she’s determined to start fresh for her son, who deals with Asperger’s Syndrome, without her overbearing parents judging her every move. Of course, sometimes her new neighbors seem to be equally closed-minded. And there’s one new neighbor she can’t seem to avoid… in fact, the handsome Dewey, despite his black hat and buried emotions, might end up being the only reason to stay in Kennison Falls.

Neither Dewey nor Rose is looking for love, but what they’re starting to feel can’t be anything else. Will the  longtime bachelor and the free-spirited librarian let themselves fall? Or will their differences get in the way of their happy ending?

Here's a blurb from her latest book, coming October 17:

Allan Charles Wellborn has secretly adored Hattie all his life. He evolved from a pocket protector-wearing geek to a handsome police detective. With the police determine there's more to the death of a Buy Rite employee, he steps in to lead the investigation. My website got a facelift!
www.eeburke.com
Greetings from Kansas! I'm a bonafide history geek and a sucker for a good love story. Especially if its set in the wild American West.

This November, I have a new release coming out, the third in my historical romance series, Steam! Romance and Rails. This book continues the story of the Katy Railroad and is the sequel to my debut novel, Passion's PrizeToday, I'm giving you, our faithful readers, a sneak peek at my new cover, a blurb and an excerpt.

A Dangerous Passion
Can love survive when passion and ambition collide?

Embarking on a new life out West, Lucy Forbes is eager to experience the kind of adventure and romance she’s only read about in books. The moment she sets foot in Kansas, she is thrust into the gritty reality of an untamed frontier--and into the embrace of an enemy.

Henry Stevens is relentless in his pursuit of success, and has risen from poverty to prestige as general manager of the Katy Railroad. Despite his accomplishments, the railroad continues to be plagued with financial difficulties. Now, people are disappearing along the line and strangers are shooting at him. However, he faces his biggest challenge when he sets his sights on the daughter of the man sent to replace him.

Fascinated by the enigmatic Mr. Stevens, Lucy sets out to unmask the arrogant railroad chief, who seems more suited to the role of villain than hero. His determination to win her while holding onto power makes him a dangerous adversary. Not to mention the heart-stopping passion she finds in his arms.

Here's an excerpt:
Henry stood slowly as four men in dripping ponchos filed into the empty depot. The sense of wrongness intensified when he noticed their hat brims were pulled low and heavy scarves concealed their faces. Reacting on gut instinct, he unbuttoned his coat to get to his gun.
At the sound of a hammer being cocked, he froze. Despite being a fairly good shot, he was no quick draw. These men could kill him before he cleared leather. At worst, they were here to rob him. At best, they’d reacted after seeing him go for his gun.
“Sorry, you startled me.” He held his hands out at his sides so the men could see them. “Are you here to meet someone arriving on the train?”
He hoped so. Otherwise, he was in trouble.
“You Stevens?” one of the men drawled.
Henry’s heart convulsed. Big trouble.
If he hadn't been so focused on the mixup between the old and new depot, he would've paid better attention. He hadn’t even heard their spurs.
His gaze fell to the heavy brogans on the speaker’s feet. Men who spent most of their time in the saddle--cowboys, drifters, even outlaws--wore boots. Anger surged through him as he realized who'd drawn on him. Blasted sodbusters.
From outside came the hissing of an engine letting off steam. Soon, passengers would come pouring through that door behind him. Chimes sounded and the conductor called out. The noise distracted the gunmen for an instant.
That was all Henry needed.
He whirled around and ducked outside to the platform. Those farmers wouldn’t take on an entire railroad crew.
A shot rang out and splinters flew off the doorframe.
The portly conductor, waiting by the steps of the parlor car, staggered against the rail.
Henry jerked his gun out of the holster, shocked and sickened. Those settlers were willing to kill anyone to get to him. He hadn’t expected that.
On the steps of the parlor car, a young woman stood with one foot poised as if she was ready to leap off the train and bound onto the platform in her eagerness to disembark. A startled expression was stamped on her face.
Henry's pulse roared in his ears. He couldn’t let those men kill that woman. He had to protect her and the other passengers, the crew.
“Get back,” he bellowed, then fired into the dark room.

Well? What do you think? I'd love to hear from you. You can drop me a line or find out more about this series on my website. Today, I'm giving away a copy of Passion's Prize

Lara Lacombe

I began my professional life as a biomedical researcher, but quickly discovered that romance novels and happily ever afters were a lot more fun than late nights in the lab.  I started writing romance a few years ago, and the rest, as they say, is history.

LETHAL LIES is coming in December from Harlequin Romantic Suspense. Here's a blurb.

Trusting the man she loves could cost her life. Putting her faith in someone who lies for a living isn't the safest thing Dr. Jillian Mahoney has ever done. But to stay alive, she has to believe the undercover agent--who's kidnapped her to prove his innocence--isn't a traitor to the FBI. And to help him, she must deny their intense attraction as they run from two vengeful killers.

Her captor, Alex Malcom has lived a life of lies--some worse than others. Still, there's one truth he's reluctant to disclose to Jillian, the woman of his dreams. One that could stop their relationship cold.

LETHAL LIES is up for pre-order now.  Amazon | B&N

Clover Autry

Inspired by her love of Louis L'Amour heroes, Clover Autrey (yeah, that's her real name), packed up and moved to Texas where she found a real live Texan of her own. She's been there ever since where she and Pat (who else would a Clover marry but a Patrick?) listen to the coyotes howl at the trains each evening.

Clover is getting back to her beloved magical Highlanders with Highland Illusion coming in December followed quickly by Highland Soldier.

Excerpt from Highland Son out now:
Highland Illusion cover
He looked down at the top of her worn and fraying knitted cap while she held her hand out for his ammunition. He handed over his bullets and the gel pack for his pulsar, which she shoved into the deep pockets that ran down the side of her camo-pants.
“Any knives on you?”
Smirking, Alexander pulled the blade from the back of his waistband and bent to retrieve his second in his boot all the while taking in the girl’s appearance. He didn’t want to lose track of who had his supplies. There wasn’t anything significant about her, average height, average features, slim build. A bit of dirt smudged her cheek, worn clothes, browns and greens, good for camouflaging within ruins of a city. Not much to distinguish her from the others around her, except being female, but there could be more women back at their camp.
“I need to pat you down,” she said without a hint of embarrassment.
“Don’t trust me?” He grinned, baiting her a bit.
She didn’t rise to it. “Don’t know you.”
Alexander spread his arms out wide, allowing her to move in close. She was quick and efficient, running her hands down his length and then back up and into his hair. He was about to make a quip, but…she smelled like cherries.
He hadn’t seen a cherry or a cherry tree in years. How was that possible? He leaned into her.
She jerked back, eyes flashing.
“Jewel?” The leader asked.
The girl wrenched her gaze away and straightened. “He’s clean.”
Jewel. Alexander watched her walk away, even when she turned back to glance at him and immediately looked away again beneath his stare.
“At least you got a pretty girl,” Ethan muttered. Arms spread, he was still being patted down by a wiry old geezer who was taking his time.

Alexa Bourne

Alex is a teacher by day and a romance writer by nights, weekends, and all school holidays. She writes romantic suspense and contemporary romance. She also teaches online classes for writers throughout the year. She is thrilled to have the chance to share her love of Great Britain with readers everywhere.

I'm so excited to share information on my next romantic suspense release, WAKE ME! I don't have an official release date, but I'm working on edits already. Sadly, I don't have a cover yet either. BUT, I can give you my UNOFFICIAL blurb:

Sarah McKinley is a young woman with a psychic ability: Her dreams come true. She’s tried to ignore it and even moved out of state to start over as a “normal” human being. But the dreams don’t disappear and shortly after she arrives in Austin, she innocently mumbles some thoughts about a murder scene. Things only she and the killer know. Quickly she realizes her mistake. The police now want to talk to her.

Detective Jesse Cordell is grounded in reality and doesn’t put much stock in the supernatural. He watched his mother con people with her “psychic ability” all through his childhood and learned to fight back by joining the police force. While investigating the crime, he keeps coming into contact with Sarah and knows she’s hiding something. Instinct tells him she didn’t commit the crime, but she definitely knows more than she’s letting on.

Jesse defies orders and joins Sarah in the hunt for the true killer’s identity. As they grow closer to each other, and to identifying the murderer, Sarah begins to accept her psychic gift. But can she convince Jesse her supernatural ability is real before the killer silences them both forever?

Well? What do you think? I'm also excited about this because it's my first try at adding light paranormal elements to my writing. Plus, it's Book #1 of my Hidden Destiny series, which will eventually include more characters with paranormal abilities. Okay, back to my edits so I can get this book to you as soon as possible!

This month, we're giving away books from Liz, Angi, Vicki, Alexa, E.E. and Clover.

Our question today for the giveaway:
Have you gotten lost in a good book lately? Tell us about it.
