Exciting New Paranormal Series

MEET AE JONES:

Growing up a TV junkie, award winning author AE Jones oftentimes rewrote endings of episodes in her head when she didn’t like the outcome. She immersed herself in sci-fi and soap operas. But when Buffy hit the little screen she knew her true love was paranormal. Now she spends her nights weaving stories about all variation of supernatural—their angst and their humor. After all life is about both…whether you sport fangs or not.AE lives in Ohio with her eclectic family and friends who in no way resembles any characters in her books. Honest. Now her two cats are another story altogether.

ABOUT SHIFTER WARS:

Book Three in the Mind Sweeper Series

Why did the demon cross the road? Apparently to escape from Kyle McKinley. Which is more than fine with her.

The last thing she wants is to be dragged into another supernatural crisis, but the Fates have something more interesting in store for her. Since the tricky wenches love to mess with people, Kyle isn’t really surprised. And once she learns Trina, the young shifter girl whose memory she erased, is being stalked again, Kyle will do whatever it takes to protect her.

Normally a secretive group, the shifters reluctantly agree to allow Kyle and her vampire and demon teammates to investigate. Are the poachers who kidnapped Trina back for revenge? But when other shifters are also targeted, Kyle becomes convinced there is more to the attacks than vengeance. And when the violence escalates and Griffin, the enigmatic leader of the shifters, ends up in the crosshairs, the team braces for a bloodbath.

Scrambling to identify the mysterious group bent on destroying the shifters, and why, Kyle is also haunted by dreams and painful flashes from the prophesied Key of Knowledge which has taken up residence in her brain. In typical Kyle fashion, she decides to ignore it, but the more she ignores it, the more it digs its claws into her consciousness. If she can’t learn to embrace the Key and ask for help from those closest to her, she could lose her sanity before she’s able to prevent a shifter civil war.

QUESTIONS FOR AE JONES:

Kathleen:  Welcome to Get Lost in a Story, AE!  Vampires, demons, shifters and angels, oh my! Your MIND SWEEPER series sounds intriguing. I look forward to reading it. This is book three you’re telling us about today, so can you tell us briefly about one of your favorite scenes from the first book?

AE JONES:
Thanks for inviting me here today, Kathleen. I’m glad that you’re looking forward to reading my series. It was a lot of fun but still a lot of work to write.

In my first book there are a couple of great scenes that I love. But some of them are ‘holy cow’ scenes which mean if I tell you about them I will spoil the surprise. So I’ll stick to a scene that shouldn’t give too much away.

Kyle, my heroine, has a little accident and Dalton, the hero, has to carry her up the stairs to her apartment and then take care of her. This scene is one of my favorites because we get to see uber-independent Kyle having to rely on someone else. Needless to say, she balks at the attention and emotions run high. It doesn’t help that she is ridiculously attracted to Dalton and he doesn’t back down when she tries to push him away.

Kathleen: How often do you get lost in a story?

AE JONES:
This question could be answered in more than one way…As a reader or a writer? As a reader, I get lost in stories all the time. Hours will pass and I will still be flipping the pages. I’m one of those crazy people who can read a book in a day. Or stay up until two in the morning telling myself, just one more chapter…
As a writer I also get lost in the story when it is flowing. I laugh and cry along with my characters (really I do). When it’s not flowing, I am aware of every word I type and every scene I try to work out in my head.

Kathleen: What’s the first book you remember reading?

AE JONES:
I remember reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder series. What an amazing glimpse into the past and the love of a family. The story is timeless. Kids still read it today.
Another one of my favorite first books is called The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which is the story about a lost little girl living in an unfriendly world and finding strength to heal herself and the people around her through taking care of a neglected garden.

Kathleen: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?

AE JONES:
I grew up with a real-life hero. My dad was a Marine and then a firefighter. He saved countless lives over the years, risking his own life in the process. And my brother followed in his firefighter footsteps. Firefighters are a very special breed of people, but don’t tell my dad and brother I said that, they’ll let it go to their heads!
Kathleen: What was the first story you remember writing?

AE JONES:
My first crack at an actual novel was a cozy mystery about a twenty-something who worked for an accountant and their clients started dying. Can you guess how old I was and where I was working at the time? Right. But no worries about dead clients. That part I made up!

Kathleen: Who’s your favorite villain?

AE JONES:
Okay, this is too funny. I was thinking about two of my favorite villains in movies I have seen and they both were played by the same person! The evil leader guy in the first Die Hard movie was a great villain for one of those big budget blow up movies. The other favorite villain (who didn’t end up being one after all) started in books for me and then played out on the movie screen. It was Severus Snape. Alan Rickman rocked those parts!

Kathleen: What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?

AE JONES:
First I would like to say, “Yay, I have fans!” Then I would like to tell my fans how humbled I am for their outpouring of support and enthusiasm.

Kathleen: What will always make you smile, even on a bad day?

AE JONES:
Hopefully this will not make me sound like a crazy cat lady, but my two cats make me smile. I can come home stressed out and they will pull me out of my funk every time. Cats don’t have time for your whining. They just want to be loved (on their schedule of course).

Kathleen: What could we find in your heroine's purse?

AE JONES:
Funny you should ask. My heroine Kyle doesn’t normally carry a purse. She finds it gets in the way when dealing with the various situations she has to clean up. In Shifter Wars, the third book that is releasing on Monday, November 17th, Kyle has to attend a fancy gathering which means she needs a purse to carry. A friend brings her one to use and tells her that she made sure it was big enough to carry Kyle’s 9 millimeter. So that may give you a glimpse into Kyle’s personality.

  1. Fun interview, AE. Let's see, my hobbies include jigsaw puzzles, quilting (not so much anymore, but I appreciate a well-made one nonetheless), and genealogy. There's a theme going, I realize. I also enjoy reading, especially when an author puts all those pieces of a story together and a book sucks me in.

Quilting is something I have always admired but have never attempted. And yes I see a theme going on here, which makes sense that you also write historical romances! Nice that your hobbies have helped with your passion, right?

  2. Hi AE! Congrats on your new release.

I used to quilt too, but I pretty much gave it up when I started writing seriously, and When I moved to Texas, I have my sewing machine to my niece.

  4. AE, I'm so with you on the cats. They're just cool dudes. When my last one died (from old age), I didn't get another because my d-i-l is allergic. I sure miss having one around.

Count me as one of those fans you mentioned. I'm loving this series!!! Don't include me in the giveaway as I already plan to buy your book. :-)

Hello! I agree, there is something special about cats. My one cat likes to sit on my lap while I write. Which can become problematic when he decides he needs petted! I am so happy you love my series :)
