Get Swept Through Time with Brenda Hiatt

The middle of nowhere just got a lot more interesting!

Nerdy astronomy geek Marsha, M to her few friends, has never been anybody special. Orphaned as an infant and reluctantly raised by an overly-strict "aunt," she's not even sure who she is. M's dream of someday escaping tiny Jewel, Indiana and making her mark in the world seems impossibly distant until hot new quarterback Rigel inexplicably befriends her. As Rigel turns his back on fawning cheerleaders to spend time with M, strange things start to happen: her acne clears up, her eyesight improves to the point she can ditch her thick glasses, and when they touch, sparks fly--literally! When M digs for a reason, she discovers deep secrets that will change her formerly mundane life forever . . . and expose her to perils she never dreamed of. Yes, the middle of nowhere just got a lot more interesting!

CLOVER: How often to you get lost in a story?
BRENDA: Not as often as I'd like! I spend so much time writing these days that I don't have nearly as much reading time as I used to. But when I do get a chance to sink into a book, I ADORE getting swept up in it to the point it becomes hard to re-focus on the "real" world.

CLOVER: What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?
BRENDA: Stare at the last line in disbelief (am I really DONE??) then celebrate! I've trained my hubby well that typing "The End" totally merits a nice dinner out--and sometimes roses. :)

CLOVER: If you were given a chance to travel to the past where would you go and specifically why?
BRENDA: Probably Regency England, because I've written so many (13 to date) books set there. It would be fascinating (and probably very eye-opening!) to see how closely all of my research matches the real thing! Also, just absorbing how the people lived, talked, played, ate, worked, etc. would be a life-changing experience, I'm sure! I wouldn't want to stay forever, though. I'd miss modern medicine--and flush toilets!--too much! LOL!

CLOVER: I love that we are in a boxed set together with books focusing on time travel. Tell us a little about the book you have in this set.
BRENDA: For years, I fantasized about how much fun it would be if a girl from the past suddenly landed in the present and I got to show her around "my" world, watching her reactions to everything that was so very different from what she was used to. At the same time, I also imagined traveling back in time to see how things REALLY were back then. Bridge Over Time is how I fulfilled both fantasies, by having my two heroines switch places in time and go through both the hassles and the wonders of learning about and fitting into their new settings. (And falling in love with totally unexpected men, of course!)

CLOVER: What do you have coming up next?
BRENDA: Starfall, the 4th and final book in my Starstruck series of young adult science fiction  romances.

Brenda would like to know: Do you mostly stick to one genre/subgenre as a reader, or do you read several? (And if several, which ones?)

  1. Hi, Brenda and welcome to GLIAS! I could so sympathize with your character as I had spots and glasses until age 17. A tough age.
