MEET LEE KILRAINE

Lee Kilraine is a 2014 Golden Heart® Finalist for her debut contemporary romance, BRINGING DELANEY HOME, the first book in her Cates Brothers Series. She lives with her family in the pine woods of North Carolina. When she isn't typing away on her computer with her golden retriever, Harley, destroying something at her feet, you might find her on her front porch swing plotting her next book while guarding her garden from the local gang of deer. Let's talk about COULD THIS BE LOVE? Book 2 in the Cade Brother's Series. (I just finished it this weekend and loved it!)

Avery had to admit, from the moment she saw him in the flesh: Sijan Cates was one very hot man. And having spent a few years acting in Hollywood, she’d been up close to some very fine male specimens. She was surprised to admit she couldn’t pull her gaze away from his tall, muscled body, strong jaw, and bad-boy smile, complete with slashing dimples. Something in his smile swirled heat low in her belly. Her breath snagged when his silver gray eyes flashed over the crowd.

She ripped her gaze away to the almost carbon copy standing next to him. That had to be his brother, although his eyes were a different color. She’d never seen anyone actually look dangerous. Until Carbon Copy. Together, these men gave off enough pheromones and testosterone to alter the DNA of everyone around them.

And looking around, there were plenty of women anxious to let them alter anything they wanted to. Cripes, she had forgotten what this was like.

“Not used to seeing it from the other side, are you?” Pia said. “Exciting, huh?”

“That’s one word for it. So, just to be clear, I’m in love with the guy on the right, yes? Not the edgy one?”

“Yes. The edgy one is one of his four brothers,” Pia said. “Not the cop. You talked to him when we were scoping the town out yesterday. I’m not sure which one, but I’ll happily research that if you need me to. I mean a ‘true’ fan would probably know, right?”

“Pia, one photo, that’s all I need. We don’t need to turn this into a method acting session. It’s bad enough you made me put on these clothes. Has anyone ever told you you’d make a very good pimp?” Avery said without taking her focus off Sijan Cates. She was looking for her best entrance, kind of like finding the best place to jump into a double-dutch jump rope game.

“Hey, you needed to look like a true groupie. And the extra cleavage is to help you get the photographer’s attention, so stop complaining.” Pia looked Avery over. “People always underestimate what we wardrobe people can do. Not everyone can pull off a Marilyn Monroe–meets–Daisy Duke look. You’ve got a very nice ‘I’m hot and willing to put out’ vibe going on.”

“Yeah, I probably just single-handedly set the feminist movement back ten years.” In Hollywood, beauty was a commodity. Avery treated hers like a weapon in her arsenal that she usually just ignored. Today, though, she used it to her tactical advantage.

“They’re walking this way. I’ve got my Sharpie and—darn, I forgot something for his autograph. Quick, peek through my purse and grab out a piece of paper.” Avery stayed cool and focused while Sijan worked his way down the line of screaming female fans, signing autographs and avoiding hands like a pro.

“Here.” Pia shoved a paper in her hand.

Avery glanced down, checking both sides of the paper. “Ack! No, that’s the annual company expense report for our accountant. Never mind, I’m up.”

While she might agree with Pia that this could end up in a train wreck, Avery still had to try. Matching wits and acting skills with movie star Sijan Cates? Dangerous. Watching Tansy waste away before her eyes? Heartbreaking. She’d take danger over heartbreak any day.

A LIGHTING ROUND OF Q&A WITH LEE KILRAINE

NAN: How often do you get lost in a story?

LEE:  Every night. I have to read before falling asleep. TV shows? Not so much. It’s not that I don’t like TV—it’s that I lose track of the day of the week and end up missing so many shows that I’ve lost the overall plot line a few weeks into the new season.  Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this. I’m blaming my kids. When our kids were younger, I used their schedules to keep track, like oh, lacrosse practice means it’s Monday so, hey, How I Met Your Mother is on. But, no, they went and grew up, so now, no more kid activities means I’m always forgetting to tune in. Thank goodness for movies! 

Nan: Too funny! I lose track of the days of the week--but I also keep up with On Demand!         

NAN: What’s your favorite “love” word? 

LEE:  Oh, I have a favorite “love” sentence: “I’ll cook tonight.” ;) Every time my husband says that and takes over in the kitchen—he makes my heart go pitter-patter.

Nan: Oh you are so, so right!

NAN: Who’s your favorite villain? 

LEE:  A favorite villain I secretly love…Alan Rickman aka Hans Gruber in Die Hard, but a villain I actually dislike with a passion? Lord Voldemort, the stepmother in Cinderella, or the 7 fingered man in The Princess Bride. Oh! If you’ve ever watched the TV miniseries Band of Brothers…Captain Sobel. Grrrr. I hate that guy.

Nan: Alan Rickman was an incredible actor!

NAN: Is there a “Blooper” in your story (it may have been changed before printing)?

LEE:  Well, I have an emotional scene where the hero has accused my heroine of doing something pretty horrible and she’s also found out that the foster family she thought loved her—has either lied, manipulated or ignored her for the past few years and she’s talking it out with her best friend—pacing and talking—and it turns out-- I forgot to put clothes on her. She was pacing around, upset, talking and trying to handle all this—buck naked. Yikes! I mean, I meant for it to be a revealing scene—but not that kind of revealing! ;)

Nan: I didn't even notice! (In the hotel?)

NAN: What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?

LEE:  Shower. Is that too much information? Yikes! It’s just that when you’re writing to deadline sometimes it feels a lot like pulling an all-nighter before a final or a research paper is due. I mean, pfft, not that I ever did that, I’m just guessing that’s what it might feel like. But also, I love being able to read from my TBR pile in between writing books.  

Nan: Yes, but in my case a long bath with an adult beverage!

NAN: What has been your most rewarding publishing moment? 

LEE:  When I saw my 1^st book available in libraries. I was one of those shy, nerdy kids who thought the library was (and is) a special, magical place so that was very special for me. I might have teared up a little.

Nan: Libraries are magical.

NAN: What is your hero’s kryptonite? In other words, what will bring him instantly to his knees? 

LEE:  Sijan is gutted thinking about the heroine’s lonely childhood. That and pie. He has a weakness for banana cream pie. But who doesn’t, right?

Nan: Pie--you bet.

NAN'S GOT TO ASK: You’re stranded on a desert island. You can have either chocolate or coffee—not both. Which one?

LEE'S GOT TO ANSWER: Coffee. Although, I’m not gonna lie, it hurt a bit to make that imaginary choice.  

Nan: Truly not fair--right?

Nan: I can't wait! Thanks for spending the day with Get Lost in a Story--Lee!

LEE KILRAINE WANTS TO KNOW:   One of places my characters hang out in the Cates Brothers Series is the local diner, Dave’s. So, of course, people are ordering food—often a slice of pie but sometimes cake. I do love cake with just the right amount of icing, but pie reminds me of my childhood. Oh, those tough life decisions. If I had to choose…I think I’d go with a piece of strawberry pie. So what I want to know is…pie or cake?  And then let’s hear your favorite.
