The Sapphire Manticore
The Lost Ancients: Book Four

Murderous magic, vanished races, killer relics, and drunken faeries--who knew the end of the world would look like this? The story that began in The Glass Gargoyle, The Obsidian Chimera, and The Emerald Dragon continues...

Taryn St. Giles thought she knew all about elves. She dreamed of the long vanished elves as a child and has spent the past fifteen years digging through their abandoned ruins in Beccia. Six months ago, Taryn found out everything she thought she knew about the elves was wrong.

Two weeks ago she found out how very wrong she'd been.

Taryn and Alric have been captured to answer for crimes against a long lost people. Crimes that could bring down an entire kingdom and revolve around a small, glass gargoyle. Part of a weapon that destroyed an extremely powerful race, now only known as the Ancients, it, and its fellow pieces are deadly to any who have them. Knowledge of the relics found by Taryn and Alric have spread far. Dangerous bands of long dead creatures, ghosts, and nightmares out of myths are waking up and hunting for the relics. And Taryn.

Praise for The Lost Ancients series: "Aficionados of action-packed fantasy laced with a generous dose of humor should immediately check out the talented Lost Ancients series. Andreas does a fantastic job building a compelling world and developing characters that leap off the page! Fantasy fans should not miss out." —Jill M. Smith, Senior Reviewer, RT Book Reviews

The beginning: Archeologist Taryn St. Giles has spent her life mining the ruins of the elves who vanished from the Four Kingdoms a thousand years ago. But when her patrons begin disappearing too—and then turning up dead—she finds herself unemployed, restless, and desperate. So she goes looking for other missing things: as a bounty hunter.
Tracking her first fugitive—the distractingly handsome and strangely charming Alric—she unearths a dangerous underworld of warring crime lords, demonic squirrels, and a long-lost elven artifact capable of unleashing a hell on earth.
Chased, robbed, kidnapped, and distressingly low on rent money, Taryn just wants one quiet beer and to catch her fugitive. But there’s more to Alric than his wicked grin—is he a wanted man or the city’s only hope? With menacing mages in pursuit and her three alcoholic faery sidekicks always in her hair, Taryn’s curiosity might finally solve the mystery of the elves… or be the death of her and destroy her world.

Marie Andreas is a fantasy and science fiction reader with a serious writing addiction. If she wasn't writing about all the people in her head, she'd be lurking about coffee shops annoying total strangers with her stories. So really, writing is a way of saving the masses. Her first fantasy series, The Lost Ancients, starts with The Glass Gargoyle. Books two, three, and four: The Obsidian Chimera, The Emerald Dragon, and The Sapphire Manticore, are all available now. The six book series will continue in 2017 and 2018.

A space opera trilogy, The Asarlai Wars, launched with Warrior Wench, and will continue in summer 2017 with the Victorious Dead.

When not saving the masses from coffee shop shenanigans, Marie likes to visit the UK and keeps hoping someone will give her a nice summer home in the Forest of Dean.

Marie is also a member of SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America) and RWA (Romance Writers of America).

Get Lost in a Story Interview with Marie Andreas

Jillian: How often to you get lost in a story?
Marie: As a reader—anytime I’m reading. If I don’t get lost in the story, I don’t finish reading that book! As a writer, every time I sit down to write or edit .

Jillian: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
Marie: Bugs Bunny-smart, sarcastic, but not mean ;).

Jillian: What turns you off like nothing else?
Marie: Over the top Alpha heroes, I need a bit of humor and wit in my men ;). Yes, I think a great woman can soften the toughest alpha, but there has to be a bit of something there initially in his personality, or I just won’t continue reading. There’s the “Save the Cat” theory, where you have your character do something kind, thoughtful, or compassionate early on to help the reader care about them. I’d also say, “Crack a joke”—nothing huge, but something that shows the promise of wit in that hot, hunky hero.

Jillian: What sound or noise do you love?
Marie: Rain falling on pine trees or the ocean—OR even better- BOTH at the same time-I LOVE Santa Cruz for the ability to have both.

Jillian: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
Marie: Lord of The Rings- (have to treat all three as a single story) there is action, adventure, magic, and love—my kinda of story.

Jillian: What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?
Marie: Thank you for joining me on my journeys! I am a storyteller, my goal is to entertain, to allow someone to get lost in my stories of magic, mayhem, and adventure—I appreciate everyone who comes along for the ride.

Jillian: Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay any attention to them, or let them influence your writing?
Marie: I had to step away from them for a bit, I was focusing more on them, than writing the next book. I wouldn’t say they influence my books, but it I read a number of them, all having the same issue—I’d have to look into it. I’m slowly working my way up to reading them again.

Jillian: What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?
Marie: I have had many many total strangers, in other countries even, read my stories—and really like them. That is an amazing feeling like nothing else.
