Irish & Texan? Oh My !

A TOUCH OF TEXAS IRISH

Heiress Aileen Lynch has just lost her mother to cancer, but her spendthrift stepfather insists she must cancel his gambling debts by marrying his disreputable associate. Fleeing Ireland with the help of her mother’s lawyer, she lands in Boston to stay with friends and is attracted to one of their visitors. Doctor Samuel Walker is in town to attend a medical conference.

When he meets the lovely young Irishwoman he is quite taken with her and, at his colleague's entreaty, marries her and takes her home to Texas with him to keep her safe. Sam rationalizes that he doesn’t need a wife but he does need a mother for his son. While Aileen strives to earn Sam’s affection, he vows never to risk Aileen’s safety or his heart—he’ll not father a child and watch Aileen die in childbirth as his first wife did. And falling in love is not in his plans.

LINDA LaROQUE is a Texas girl, but the first time she got on a horse, it tossed her in the road dislocating her right shoulder. Forty years passed before she got on another, but it was older, slower, and she was wiser. Plus, her students looked on and it was important to save face.

A retired teacher, Linda loves West Texas and the American Midwest, its flora and fauna, and its people. Her stories paint pictures of life, love, and learning set against the raw landscape of ranches and rural communities in Texas. Linda is a member of RWA, her local chapter of HOTRWA, NTRWA and Texas Mountain Trail Writers.

Today she lives in a small community outside of Waco, TX with her husband and dog Molly. They have two grown children and a grandson.

THE Q&A with
Aileen from a TOUCH of TEXAS IRISH
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
AILEEN: Awk, with Mam ill, I mostly be reading while at her bedside. I've read most of the classics so have turned to Mary Shelley and Jane Austin's books. Sometimes Mam has to call me twice to get my attention.

ANGI: Favorite date…fancy or at home?
AILEEN: Da isn't much for letting me be squired about town. I'll be eighteen tomorrow so I be hoping he'll let some of the local gents come calling.

ANGI: Where’s your favorite place to see bluebonnets?
AILEEN: We no have bluebonnets in County Cork, but I heard of some lupines further south. I believe they be similar to the bluebonnets.

ANGI: What’s your favorite thing about your book’s hero?
AILEEN: Awk, my favorite hero is brave, yet tender. He loves bairns and animals and his kisses will make my heart flutter.

ANGI: Got a favorite song? What makes it special?
AILEEN: The Girl I Left Behind Me. It's special because it's Mam's favorite. She gets all teary when she sings it.

ANGI: What’s your perfect day?
AILEEN:  My perfect day is when Mam feels well enough to get out of bed. She loves to brush my hair and it helps me forget she is dying.

ANGI: Salad or soup?
AILEEN: Cook's potato soup is the best. She makes it for me when I'm sick or blue.

ANGI: Champagne or Soda?
AILEEN: The bubbles in champagne make me sneeze. Soda? We mix it in water when we have gas.
ANGI: What’s your favorite thing to do in your home state?
AILEEN: Visit the county fairs, and I love to spend time in Carlisle at the beach. When Mam was well, we went often.

ANGI’s GOTTA ASK:  What’s one item from your bucket list?
LINDA’S GOTTA ANSWER:   Visit England, Wales, and Scotland.
