E.E. Burke's Best of the West: Bestselling Author Linda Broday Introduces Another Legend

Today, I'm delighted to welcome back New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Linda Broday, with her new release TO MARRY A TEXAS OUTLAW. This is her third and concluding book in the Men of Legend Series. Oh, how I've been waiting for this one! Luke captured my heart in the first book and I've been eager to read his story.

Outlaw Luke Weston survives by his wits. On the run for a murder he didn’t commit, the last thing he needs is to go looking for more trouble. But when Luke stumbles across a fiercely beautiful woman struggling against two heavily armed men, it’s obvious that trouble has found him.
After all, he never could resist a damsel in distress.
Josie Morgan’s distressed, all right—and hopping mad. She has no idea why she’s been kidnapped…or who she is…or why her body melts for the mysterious gunslinger who saved her life. But as the lost memories come tumbling back together, Josie is faced with the stark reality of why she and Luke can never be…even as her heart is telling her she will always be his.

Excerpt
Josie put her hands on her hips. “I’m guessing you and your father had words. Saw it coming. I knew something would send you running.”
“I just needed some fresh air.” Luke Weston tried to keep the anger from his voice but it sneaked in anyway.
She leaned back to stare up at him. “When you head out, I’m going with you.” Her chin stuck out at an obstinate angle. “This is a fine place to rest—in fact, there’s none nicer—but if you’re thinking to dump me here, you’d best think again.”
The fragrance that belonged only to her filled his senses. She stood before him bathed in the silvery moonlight. Her nearness messed with his mind. Her lips were too perfectly curved, too tempting, too close.
“You’re one crazy, mixed-up woman.” He put his hands gently around her neck, lowered his head, and claimed her mouth.
The kiss was hot and needy, and he didn’t apologize for the sudden roughness. Hunger for her consumed him with all the fierceness of a summer storm. He stood unmoving in its path, facing the furor.
Josie was imperfect, like him. The lady never pretended to be more than she was—not even when she played a role. But she didn’t have to. She could do whatever the situation called for, whether it be a tender touch or a bullet from her gun. Luke had never seen another like her, even in all his wandering.
When he broke the kiss, he nibbled slowly across her lips, teasing, wanting to make her yearn for more as he did. Her breathing was ragged as he gently tugged her plump bottom lip into his mouth.
He pulled her against his chest with a low curse, and gave himself over to the passion or lust or whatever the hell it was. He slid his hands into her hair and wrapped the silk around his fingers.
She thrust her arms around his neck and melted into him.
What they had seemed right. Yet if it turned out to be all wrong, he couldn’t stop. Not this time.

This time the hunger was too raw and consuming. He couldn’t think. Couldn’t speak. Couldn’t move away as he should. All he could do was feel, and the need to banish the constant loneliness for a little while drove him past the line he’d drawn. He wanted to feel whole again and only Josie could make that happen.

Meet Linda

I'm a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of historical western romances and I reside in the Texas Panhandle on land the American Indian and Comancheros once roamed. At times, I can feel their ghosts lurking around every corner. I love research and looking for little known tidbits to add realism to my stories. Chocolate is my best friend. It just soothes my soul.

Is writing or story-telling easier for you?
Story-telling, hands down. I love telling stories, especially when I don’t have to worry about grammar, punctuation, run-on sentences, etc. I can just throw myself into it and let the magic take hold. I love it when I can let that happen, when it’s just me and my story. I often forget which world I’m in or the time. It’s a great feeling.

E.E.: What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in?
Linda: A western—either historical or contemporary. I just love cowboys and the freedom of their way of life. I really think they’re one of the best kinds of heroes and the code they live by makes them special. But my heart is planted firmly in the old West where an agreement was cemented by nothing more than a handshake, when people had respect for each other, and couples didn’t break apart at the first sign of trouble. Things moved a whole lot slower and how nice that would be to get off this merry-go-round.

E.E.: What will always make you smile, even on a bad day?
Linda: Animals. They’re just so funny, especially dogs. They get so excited to see you and it makes me very happy.

E.E.: What drew you to write in the genre(s) you do?
Linda: A book by Johanna Lindsey called Angel. It was about a gunslinger who comes to a ranch owned by a single woman where they’re fighting a range war. His character was larger-than-life and I fell in love with him. But before that, the TV westerns did a lot to stoke the fire inside me.

E.E.: What could we find in your heroine's purse?
Linda: Josie Morgan would definitely have a gun. She’s quite expert with firearms. It would also contain an emerald ring which is the only clue to who she is. Amnesia has shaken her to the core and each piece of the puzzle leads her closer to answers.

E.E.: This book concludes your Men of Legend series. How do you feel about it ending?
Linda: I hate it. I’ve spent every moment of almost two years with these Legend men and it’s very hard to say goodbye. They’ve told me their secrets and I’ve laughed and cried with them, watched them fall in love and marry. We’ve been through everything together and they’re like family. However, they will appear in limited roles in my next series called Texas Outlaw Legends.

    1. I didn't answer the question. No, a series is not to long if the books come out close to the last one.

    2. Hi Linda Wesson....Thanks for stopping by. I hope you win a copy and see why everyone is in love with Luke. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

  2. I love series and learning about other characters in the town. I do however think that series can get too long. I think 10-12 books is a good number in a series. 20+ books is too long and I find myself losing interest quickly.

    1. Hi C_Patterson.......I'm so glad you came. I think a series can get repetitious if it goes for too long. That said, I think mine are too short. Five might be the magic number. However....this series carries over to the next so maybe that will help. Luke has a pretty large role in Book #1 of Texas Outlaw Heroes and his brother Houston has a part. Good luck in the drawing!!

  4. The Men of Legend captured my heart completely. Each one of them is different, yet they share one thing and that is the Legend name and loyalty. It broke my heart as I watched Luke struggle to take his place in this powerful family. I do think series can go too long. I personally think more than six books in a series gets mundane and repetitious. Three is perfect! Thanks for hosting my sister today, Elisabeth! Hugs!

    1. Hi Miss Sister! Thanks for coming. I'm thankful for your unfailing love and support. Luke was such a broken man and I was glad to give him a HEA with Josie. Things weren't always cut and dried. They had to really work at it and at staying alive. I have to say that Sourcebooks has done a lot of research and they know what works. They like to end a series at three. That said, I'm glad this series carries over a bit into the next one. I love it! Don't work too hard today.

  15. I love how a series follows a family and community, that is why for me I don't think a series could ever be to long. As long as the characters grow along the way I am happy to read all the books in the series!

The hope and promise of love is what I love best about these books, plus the time and setting. I don't think a series can get too long. I just wish I had more money to buy more books.

  18. I love a series where characters from previous books pop in. It's like seeing old friends again.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I Love them because I feel like I get to become part of their Family and Friends Circle. I guess but only if the stories started sounding the same. But I think a Family of 5 or 6 with a couple of very close Friends could have like 20 books and not be boring. I just wouldn't like if they were Cliffhangers or that I had to read previous books to understand what's going on. Because then it would be WAY too expensive.

  20. I love that they can be read in order and as a standalone and that you get previous characters that pop in.
