There is no question that in this business, you need
to have a few things; a thick skin, flexibility, and tenacity. Perhaps that’s why
I can relate so well to my new granddog.
Yep, you heard that right. My Grand Dog.

Her name is Sutty. That was the name she’d been
given before she wound up in the Rescue pound where my son had been searching
for a dog. At first meeting they got along splendidly. She’s a precocious
little mix of Pomeranian, Border collie, and well, “other stuff…but her
sparkling brown eyes reveal the soul of a little lady who has seen the worst
and yet continues to love and move forward with her life.
To offer a brief-not-detailed explanation…Sutty was
left outside tied up to a lead-out for several weeks and the cord got wrapped
tight around her back leg. When the owners finally realized it, it was too late
to save her leg and they had to remove it up to the hip. That’s roughly about
the time, the rescue folk—knowing my son was looking—introduced him to sweet
little Sutty.

Shortly after he’d adopted her, the rescue called to
say Sutty had been selected for the annual Dog Bowl (Feb. 2, 7 pm CST-Animal
Planet)
Unable to travel due to work, Aaron sent her with the Heinz 57 rescue team from Iowa to
New York where she was filmed for the Animal Planet special that will air Saturday night, February 2 (the night before the Super Bowl) What an amazing story.
And what—might you ask—has this
got to do with writing?
I’ve been in a bit of a quandary about writing as of
late. Many things have changed in my life in the past year and frankly, I needed
some inspiration—this little dogs experiences (far worse than my obstacles) have NOT diminished her spirit, her zest for life, or how much love she shows to others.

She sparked something inside me. Pushed a reset
button, if you will. Given me a new perspective. Oh, I’m certain to have a few
doubts and obstacles yet, but her passion for life and her tenacity to overcome
her obstacles is what I write about. Thanks, Sutty for the reminder!

We had lost one of our chihuahuas and the wife of the one who passed was so sad. She would sit at the window every day looking for her best pal Dexter. Well we had gotten both of them from puppy mills that were busted so i had to look somewhere else. thru the vet we go thru he knew i was looking and mentioned to me that they found a mom and her newborn pup in the woods off the road. Someone dumped her there and she gave birth the humane society that is our local one said that they couldn't give me any info but they thought it was a girl chihuahua that was black. I caLLED every day for 3 weeks and we finally got our Daisy she is a mix with pug and has her own mind. DeeDee is such a good mama she took Daisy under her wing and taught her everything about living in the rural area and the wild cats that visit us. She has fitr in so good but she hates kids either on tv or when grandkids come over so i have to hold her or my husband. Hubby is so happy that she looks like 2 of our pups that passed and now DeeDee is queen of the house and dads lap she is 15 and Daisy Mae is now 3. It has been a fun adventure with them and they are my security since i am disabled as when i read they are in my lap when dad isn't home.Peggy Clayton

DeleteI love rescued animals... years ago we got a puppy from the pound, a beautiful husky mix... named her Misty... she was the sweetest thing I ever met, but sadly she was beaten and kicked around by her original owner... made her very leery of men... she was a treasured family member, my heart... the only men she could stand to be around were my dad and grandpa... I had some wonderful years with her.
