E.E. Burke's Best of the West: Outlaw Brides and a new series from Linda Broday

Just when you thought there couldn't be a new spin on mail-order brides, New York Times Bestselling Author Linda Broday comes up with her own unique, heart-tugging version featuring...outlaws!

Check out the first in her new series, The Outlaw's Mail-Order Bride, just released.

When the West was wild
And man's law favored the few
These extraordinary women could be found...in the heart of an outlaw.
Former outlaw Clay Colby is abuzz with his mail order bride's expected arrival. He's fought long and hard to drag Devil's Crossing out of lawlessness...so when his homestead is set ablaze by a bitter rival, he's devastated. There's no woman in the world who'd stand by him now.
But Tally Shannon is no ordinary woman.
After escaping the psychiatric hospital in which she was wrongfully detained, Tally only wants someone to protect her and the little girl under her care. She doesn't mind that Clay's home is dang near burned to the ground—not when he makes her feel so safe. So cherished. But it's only a matter of time before the ghosts of her past come calling...and her loving cowboy must defend his new bride—and the family they built together—to his very last breath.
Here's an excerpt:
Clay stared at the stars dotting the dark expanse above. “I love you, Tally. I really deep down love you. This is nothing like when I told you I was going to choose to love you. This is different and it makes me…” He paused and faced her. “We are truly one person, one heart. Does that make sense?”

Tally tenderly cupped his jaw. “I think I first came to realize that I loved you when Josie almost died. But now, I have to tell you something and not leave anything important unsaid, just in case…”

“Nothing is going to happen. Get that thought out of your head.” Clay regretted his rough voice, but it hurt too much to even consider the possibility of life without her.

“It might. You know Slade will come back with more men sooner or later. That’s just a given. When he does, I won’t have left anything unsaid. My love is solid and I’ll never feel this way about another as long as I live.”

Her vow created a tranquil glow around him. He finally had what he’d searched his whole life for. He blinked away the sudden mist in his eyes.

“Get some sleep.” He tucked her head onto his shoulder, her heart beating in rhythm with his.

Hours before dawn came, Clay woke to find her gone. The candles around the bed had gone out. He sat up quickly, a knot forming in his stomach. He jerked to his feet, his gaze sweeping the unfinished house. “Tally, where are you?”

Movement in the shadows revealed her location and concern replaced his worry. He dropped down beside her. “What’s wrong?”

Tally swung to face him, her eyes like pieces of glass. “A secret that I was going to take to my grave.”

Meet Linda

I'm a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of 23 full length historical western romance novels and short stories. Home is the Texas Panhandle on land the American Indian and early cowboys once roamed, and when it’s quiet, I can often hear their voices riding in the wind. I love research and looking for little known tidbits to add realism to my stories and I often make a nuisance of myself at museums and libraries.

E.E.: What already filmed movie represents your writing style?
Linda: Quigley Down Under with Tom Selleck. The softness he showed to Crazy Cora. Clay Colby shows the same softness to Tally in this book.

E.E.: What turns you off the fastest?
Linda: Negative people and constant complaining. I just want to shake them and tell them to count their blessings. All is not gloom and doom. There are things to be grateful for every single day. I can’t run fast enough from these people.

E.E.: What was your favorite move of 2018?
Linda: A Star is Born! Oh man! I couldn’t get enough of Bradley Cooper as a rock star! I watched this movie 5 times. Jack Maine oozes sex appeal and he sings too!

E.E.: What good book have you read lately?
Linda: WHERE THE CRAWDAD’S SING by Delia Owens. This book changed the landscape inside me. I ached for that little girl left to fend for herself in the marsh. One of the best books I’ve ever read and destined to become a classic.

E.E.: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
Linda: Beauty and the Beast. Hands down. Love it!

E.E.: What will always make you smile even on a bad day?
Linda: A child and/or a puppy. Melts my heart.

E.E.: What’s next for you?
Linda: Saving the Mail Order Bride will release on April 30 and I have a Christmas story in another anthology by Sourcebooks authors coming out this October.

Lucky readers! Linda is giving away three copies of The Outlaw's Mail-Order Bride plus a $15 Amazon gift card!

    1. Hi Jhommie....I'm so glad you came. Faithful and caring would be great qualities to find in a husband. A lot of men back then treated their wives as property to with as they wished. And respect would have be shown for sure.

Well I’m happy to say I think I have the perfect husband.
So if I was looking as a mail-order Bride, he would have to be sincere, compassionate, and a man who cares and can show me he cares and loves me to the moon and back.

    1. Hi Cheryl C!! Great to see you, lady. I think most brides hoped for a kind man but sometimes they didn't one. They did take a huge risk. Some even risked their lives on a chance to find love.

  23. I always go with the best thing I could want in a man is integrity because it covers all the positive attributes you'd want in a man. I'd want to throw in a good sense of humor if I could though. This is an awesome book and series I can't wait for the next one! Linda's books just get better and better!! I had a lot of the same answers to EE's questions!

  26. I would hope he would be kind. If he were kind I know he would love me unconditionally. I don’t even care if he’s handsome or not, of course that would be a bonus! Lol but if he were good to me that’s all that would matter. I guess I still have a little bit of “happily ever after “ left in me. By the way, I love your books!!! This is my email address akjamma@yahoo not the gmail one. I never use it. Whoever wins this is one lucky gal!!!!

  30. It's so hard to pick just one attribute. I would say a non-abusive loving family man that would protect his loved ones at all costs, but I also would love him to be honest, faithful & hard working.

  33. What wonderful comments! This looks like such a great book and I can't wait to read about Clay and Tally and their romance. As for me, if I were headed out West to marry someone, I'd like to know if he has a heart for animals and children. Those characteristics tend to be signs of a good man.
