Amanda hosts #storiesoftheheart-First-time Grandma

The Joys of  being a first-time Grandma

by Amanda McIntyre

 April 1, 2019
Today is about firsts, in particular with relation to being a ‘first-time’ grandma. Of course, you
One week old
remember (though you have to refer to baby books now) your own children’s “firsts”, but there is something wonderful about experiencing those moments again as a grandparent! Such is the case with our Winston James.

We have been blessed beyond measure to have been involved in caring for him as granny-nannies almost since his birth. Entrusted by his folks to watch him each day, share in the joys, the struggles, the concerns, prayers—the ‘firsts’. (Another first is walking through your child's “first’ moments as a parent, as well!!)

One year old

Today, April 1, he’ll turn TWO, I can hardly believe it! This little man I call my grandson. Aside from the fact that I think the sun rises and sets with him--he is tender-hearted, bright, curious, imaginative, and rambunctious enough to give us a glimpse into the lively next chapters-to-be! For example, the FIRST of welcoming a new sibling into his life in just a few weeks! (And we are blessed to be able to help with this next one as well!)

Heading for Two
Mercy! (My grandmother used to say) there are a great many ‘firsts’ yet on the horizon. But for now, I’m glowing in the thrill, the utter joy of hearing him call out “gigi” or when he hollers “pawpaw” while looking for his grandpa. It’s akin to getting the best present ever on Christmas morning!

Almost Two

Amanda McIntyre lives in the Heartland and is grateful to share life with her best-friend, husband-Mark, their four amazing grown children, one phenomenal daughter-in-law, one brilliant grandchild (and another incoming) a menagerie of grand-dogs and grand-cats, as well as her ever -growing circle of family and friends.

  1. Oh goodness what a wonderful story. All of our grandchildren are in Ca and I am in Ia so I get to talk to them on the phone and get pics but it is so neat to see them and hug them! Peggy Clayton
