C.H. Admirand ~ My Favorite Western

I grew up watching TV Westerns...and now you know I'm older than you thought. LOL!

I loved watching my heroes riding to the rescue...

...whether it was saving a town from an evil land-grabbing railroad magnet wanting to snatch up their land to lay down railroad tracks, or a greedy mine-stealing snake-in-the-grass who plans to kill the heroine's father in order to steal the deed to their silver mine.

My heroes were honest as the day is long and would risk being tossed behind bars if they were working undercover for the government.

Some of my favorite Westerns featured some of my favorite Cowboys: Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Clint Walker, James Arness, and Gary Cooper. What's not to love? In my humble opinion, the Cowboy is the quintessential American hero. Working sun-up til sun-down, ranching, riding the range, tending to his livestock, horses and family. A man's man, who may not be long on words, but in my book...actions speak louder than words.

I've worn out many of my favorite Western videos over the years, but have a few faves on DVD--haven't worn them out...yet ;)

Today is our darling daughter's birthday. To celebrate, I'm giving away Reader's Choice: A signed copy, or an e-book, of the second novella in my Sweet Contemporary Irish Western series:

A Second Chance For Justiss.

    1. Good Morning, Mary. Isn't it interesting that we have more in common than loving to read romance? I used to watch TV Westerns with my Dad, too. Lonesome Dove was a great miniseries. We'd watch what are now classics...boy I'm getting older by the minute. LOL... Bat Masterson, Cheyenne, Gunsmoke to name a few ;) Thanks for stopping by and chatting, Mary!

  2. I love westerns and hubby does too. They come on a retro channel on Saturday and we spend a bit of our Saturday morning watching them. There are so many good ones out there and I would much rather watch them than the new stuff out now. I will always love Bonanza. I wanted to grow up and marry Hoss. lol

    1. I know exactly what you mean, Debbie, I could spend hours watching those old Westerns. I loved Bonanza and Dan Blocker in the role of Hoss! I have a soft spot for James Arness and Clint Walker, too. It's funny, but a number of my favorite actors all played cowboys! My hubby's a big Clint Eastwood fan...and the spaghetti western era with the anti-hero. Not my favorite movies...to each their own, right? Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Thanks, Nancy. I fell in love with the image and the FAB, multi-talented author and graphic artist, Sahara Kelly, designed the cover for me. I really loved that she could use the battered U.S. Marshal's badge I found in an antique shop years ago...probably 20 LOL and one of the pies I baked. One of my guilty pleasures, baking ;) Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Awesome blog post, CH! I love talking about (and thinking about) Westerns 🙂 My favorites are...many! Here are a few...which I realize as I type them out are movies and not TV shows: Outlaw Josey Wales, Dances with Wolves, Silverado, For a Few Dollars More, Quigley Down Under, Hidalgo, the Magnificent Seven...I should probably stop there and get back to writing my own Western!
