For a change of pace, I thought I'd post some of the meals my guys enjoy on a cold winter night--or actually any time of year.
My grandma's Garlic Tomato Cheddar Fondue is mentioned in the 3rd book in my Sweet Small Town USA Series: Welcome Back to Apple Grove. Much to Patrick Garahan's surprise, he enjoys it, but still needs meat with his dinner...sound familiar? LOL!

Grandma's Garlic Tomato Cheddar Fondue
Ingredients:
large block of Cheddar cheese, cut into small chunks
1 large can (29 oz) crushed tomatoes (no salt, no spices)
6 to 8 garlic cloves, minced
1 to 2 tablespoons of dried basil
Splash or so of white cooking wine or red--your choice
2 large loaves of Italian bread, cubed
In a Dutch Oven, heat the crushed tomatoes to a boil. Add the minced garlic, basil and splash or two of wine. Heat back to boiling. Add the cubed cheddar cheese and stir still smooth.
Remove from heat and serve over the cubed Italian bread, or if you're like my hubby, he likes to spear the bread cubes and swirl it in the pot of fondue at the table. ;)
Enjoy!

Hi Rita! There's just something so warm and welcoming about small towns. I have a hard time letting go of the characters and saying goodbye to the towns. *sigh* Thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteHey Angi! It's actually a bit addictive (kindof like my Dad's cheese dip recipe). Just like the old Lays Potato Chip ads used to say...you can't eat just one! Thanks for visiting ;)

ReplyDeleteHi Bn100! We used to make the Swiss/Fontina/Gruyere type of fondue. This recipe is different and smells fabulous when you cook it up. BUT...you have to enjoy cheddar cheese and garlic ;) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI do like it when recipes are included in books.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! Me too ;) If the recipes are tempting enough, I've made them over the years. I may have to add this recipe to the new small town series I have on the back burner. Thanks for visiting!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Delicious!
Hi Laurie! I still have the fondue pot we received as a wedding gift...all those years ago ;) I've actually had to buy another slow cooker, but not because I use them all that often...I think it's the sporadic use that burns them out. LOL! Thanks for stopping by!
