A Sexy Wild Ride into the Dark Heart of the Zombie Apocalypse.

"I've always wanted to write an action-packed zombie book filled with humor, horror, and of course—a red hot romance. My latest release is a sexy wild ride of a novel that takes you straight into the heart of the zombie apocalypse." —Jillian

Setting: Sometime in the near future, 190 kilometers SE of Zaatari Refugee Camp, Syrian Desert, Jordan
Backstory: It took less than six weeks to turn seventy-five percent of the population of the Middle East into the walking dead. Another fifteen percent took their own lives before contracting the pathogen. "That left the rest of us hanging on by our fingernails. Radio reports from the region called us survivors—like we were some bloody reality TV show." —Lizzy Davis

Here's the back cover blurb: The zombie apocalypse is on, and Lizzy Davis is determined to survive any way she can. As a surgeon, she’s used to saving lives; not cutting into the basal ganglia to make sure the patient stays dead. When the refugee camp is overrun by zombie hordes, Lizzy manages to escape only to run into Black Hawk pilot Chris Oakley in the middle of the Syrian Desert.

Lizzy and Chris fight off zombie attacks as they make their way toward a joint military air base northeast of Kirkuk. Just one problem, they’ll have to pass through the drone-patrolled DMZ— Dead Meat Zone. To get there, they form uneasy alliances with French-Arab commandos and a black ops interrogator who’s slowly rotting before their eyes.

Along the way, Lizzy and Chris manage to find time for each other—the sizzling red-hot lovemaking kind of time. And who knows? They might have a chance at love if they live long enough.
Warning: Features red hot to erotic love scenes.

Meet the Characters

Greetings from the z apocalypse.
Speaking of a badass partner, Black Hawk pilot Chris Oakley, Night Stalker Spec Ops 160th Airborne SOAR.
Imagine you're out of gas in the middle of the Syrian desert, fighting zombies with a machete, and this guy shows up.
After his chopper is shot down by an RPG, Chris rolls into Lizzy's life on a monster Ducati motorcycle—just in time to help her fight off a zombie pod.

Chris jumped off the hood of the truck.“We need to fall back.”
“Why?” I protested. We’ve almost got 'em.” He flipped down my night vision goggles.
Chris reloaded the M4 and the two pistols, while I scanned the surrounding desert. “Nothing—no wait.”
Several new pods were coming in fast.
“At least two dozen biters. Crap—we’re doomed.”
“Not if we fight from higher ground.”
He grabbed my hand and we scrambled up the rise toward the motorcycle. “Maybe we ought to take off on the bike?” I asked.
Chris dug into a saddlebag full of ammo. “Our food and water is in the truck, along with your clothes and a medical kit. He looked up and flashed an irresistible smile. “Man up, Lizzy, we can take these guys.”

Make love, not war—unless it's zombies.
Lizzy Davis, M.D., has survived for three days alone in zombie infested territory.
“I angled low and parallel to the ground to keep the blood spray out of my eyes. Three strikes usually does it, but not always. I've had to chop away at some brains, especially when I'm tired. I sucked in air, and moved onto the next z, and the one after that. Comic book fight sounds come to mind as I hack my way through undead bodies. Wap! Thwack! Splooge! It helps.
    Barroom-Boom-boom.
Between swings of the machete, I glanced north. A dust cloud raced along the ridge in the moonlight. Too fast for zombies and the wrong decibel level, but different enough to roust me out of my blood lust.
Before I could hack into the next crawler, a violent sting of air ripped through the sleeve of my t-shirt. Bullets are eerie that way—a nanosecond layer—pass-zing! The bullet buried itself in the wriggling carcass behind me.
I kicked the biter off and spun around.
A dust cloud in human form returned my curious gaze.
Male. U.S. military. Possibly attractive, hard to tell, a faded bandana covered his lower face. Between the scarf and the helmet, watery eyes smudged with road grime, narrowed.
I stared fixedly at the intruder with a gun. It was too dark for him to see my cheeks turn red. But that didn't stop me from suffering a moment of extreme self-consciousness. I wore a cut-off T-shirt with a hole in the sleeve, skivvies, and combat boots. And oh yeah, a military issue utility belt straddled my hips. Without a mirror check, my guess was more Wrecking Ball Miley Cyrus than Tomb Raider Laura Croft.
Zombies didn't give a shit about me in my underwear, but this guy was a far cry from undead.
Blood dripped from the tip of my machete.
I pointed the blade at him. "Stay the hell away from me."

Readers will also encounter a cast of eccentric supporting characters, including: Deranged, black ops CIA zombie lord, Ivan Ivanovich. Milky gray eyes sparked to life and roamed up and down my body like he had x-ray vision. "I don't always remember whether it's Ivan or Ivanovich, so I use both." He seemed to find his memory loss amusing.

Finally, there are the zombie hordes, which include hybrids, from zombie bats to smart cyborgs with lizard brain implants. And something else much more terrifying:
    Ka-boom!
A blue haze hung in the air and there was an acrid, chemical smell. Ten feet away, Chris and Ivan crouched behind a table they'd turned on its side and made into a barricade. I backed off and plastered myself against the wall. What where they up against? Terrorists? U.S. Army? Qatar's finest?
Chris and Ivan both turned at once and fired at—something—but what was it? I saw nothing. Nothing but smoldering carpet and broken windows. Wait. Something was moving out there. A shimmer in the fog of debris particles…

Read an excerpt from Under the Wire

Cara Layne woke on a scream. The noise rumbled to life inside her chest but choked off as her eyes snapped open. Her muscles jerked. Without thinking, she grabbed for the inside stuffing of her narrow down sleeping bag, digging her fingernails deep into the slippery material. Bunching it in closed fists, she pulled the bag even tighter around her and tried to cocoon her body for protection. From what, she didn’t know,

The weather had turned without warning. The wind built to a sick wail then faded, only to roar back to life again. It echoed around her like a child’s cry as it whipped through the campsite. To block the screeching, she pulled the bag up and against her ears.

She could still see that black night surrounded the tent.  The chilling cold signaled early morning, but nowhere near dawn. She tried to focus, to figure out what was happening.

Her tent mate shifted and kicked beside her. A zipper screeched. The material of his bag rustled and he said something she couldn’t quite hear over the crescendo of sounds muffled though her clogged ears. The ground shook and the air almost vibrated.

Nothing made sense. They’d ventured out on an overnight trip to collect samples. The usual working not dangerous. They’d set down outside of avalanche and flood zones. This was the right season. The right place. Yet, dread hovered over her. The sleepy haze dragging her down refused to lift. She tried to shake off the clouding in her brain and focus on the clicked sound. A steady tapping.

What the hell was that?

Then it hit her…her teeth. Chattering.

The tent shook as a new blast of air caught the canopy, the material flapping above her head. She pulled her body tighter into a ball. Fear rocketed through her as the nylon that promised to stay sturdy even during the most punishing high mountain expedition ripped around her.

The howling sound finally registered. Not weather. Not animal. Human.

She lifted her head only high enough to see a dark figure pulling at the material above her. At first she thought her tent mate held their falling shelter together with his bare bands…then the blade flashed.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS LESLIE?

AND NOW….
ALEXA: Is writing or story-telling easier for you?
LESLIE: Writing, definitely! I have a T-shirt that says, “I Write Better Than I Talk” for a reason. The truth is, I’m not very good at telling stories or jokes. I forget words and stumble, and there’s no backspace. Ugh!

ALEXA: Do you write while listening to music? If so what kind?
LESLIE: Absolutely! When I’m writing action scenes, I listen to Rhapsody of Fire or Thomas Bergeron. For other scenes, I listen to Blackmoor’s Night, Loreena McKennitt, and other soothing New Age music. I tend to listen to music with a pleasant beat where I don’t have to pay attention to the lyrics, which can be distracting.

ALEXA: What drew you to write in the genre(s) you do?
LESLIE: Like a lot of authors, I write what I enjoy reading. I love romantic suspense, especially those with military heroes and heroines. I love strong women and alpha males. And, of course, a happily ever after!

ALEXA: What was the first story you remember writing?
LESLIE: When I was 11 years old, I was hooked on the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries. My first completed manuscript was a Hardy Boys-esque story about a man searching for his long-lost daughter. The manuscript was 49 pages long, and it was really, really bad. I hope I’ve learned something since then!

ALEXA: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
LESLIE: My real-life hero has always been my husband Kim. He’s the most honorable man I’ve ever met, with a keen understanding of military tactics and strategy. He believes in the West Point motto of “Duty, Honor, Country.” His courage awes me every day. Kim served his country for 11 years in various places around the world, to include the cavalry unit stationed in the Fulda Gap before the wall fell between East and West Germany. The mission of the unit was to delay the attack if the East Germans invaded West Germany - basically, a die-in-place mission designed to give the rest of our military time to react. He was also the commander of the intelligence unit in Belgium responsible for the BENELUX (Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg) and Western Germany.

ALEXA: What does it mean to love someone?
LESLIE: That’s a tough one. For me, love is about liking, respect, loyalty, acceptance, and a keen desire to make your partner happy. I’ve found, though, that my soulmate can’t be happy if I’m not, so I work hard to walk the path to joy. This allows him to relax and enjoy his own journey, and we meet in the middle to share our lives.

ALEXA: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
LESLIE: Hands down, The Princess Bride. It has fencing, fighting, torture, revenge. Giants, monsters, chases, and escapes. True love. Miracles. How can you beat that? The book is also wonderful. You haven’t lived until your husband reads it to you in bed at night, doing the voices and making it come alive.

ALEXA: Benedict Cumberbatch or Chris Pine?
LESLIE: Benedict Cumberbatch all the way! The man’s sheer presence and charisma leap out of the screen. And let’s not forget the allure of those fantastic cheekbones! I love the scene in Sherlock when Mrs. Hudson has been threatened and Sherlock subdues the men, then takes two steps to kneel in front of her and take her hands. It’s clear she’s precious to him - he throws the man who hurt her out of a window!

ALEXA: What’s the first book you remember reading?
LESLIE: I read voraciously as a kid. I was big into the Nancy Drew series, though. She was a strong female lead who kicked butt - what’s not to like for a little girl?

ALEXA: What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in?
LESLIE: I love romances. I read other stories, of course, but watching two people fall in love holds a special place in my heart. And I love a man in uniform.

ALEXA: What’s your favorite kid joke?
LESLIE: How do you catch a unique rabbit? U nique up on it. Silly, I know, but it makes me giggle.

ALEXA’S GOTTA ASK, LESLIE'S GOTTA ANSWER:
WHAT’S THE MOST ROMANTIC THING ANYONE’S EVER DONE FOR YOU?

My husband Kim, knowing how stressed I was at the time, put together a Relaxation box for me. It contained bubble bath, scented candles, tiny bottles of rum, and small cans of coke. He ran the jet tub for me, making sure it was nice and hot, and brought me a book to read while I sipped rum and coke in the bubble bath.

ALEXA: What's up next for you?

LESLIE: Next up is Duty & Honor Book 4, tentatively titled Not for Fame or Glory, about a former hacker who now works for the FBI. It doesn’t have a cover yet.
ALEXA: Finally, Leslie, got a question you'd like to ask your fans?
LESLIE: Who’s your favorite storybook hero? Heroine? Why?
THANK YOU,LESLIE, FOR VISITING US TODAY!
