Susan Meier is the author of almost 60 books for Entangled, Harlequin, Silhouette and Guideposts' Grace Chapel Inn series. One of eleven children, Susan was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania and continues to live there with her husband, son and two very personable cats. A one-time legal secretary and former regional director for a charitable organization, Susan found her bliss when she became a published novelist. She’s visited ski lodges and candy factories for “research” and works in her pajamas.

But the real joy of her job is creating stories about women for women. She’s tackled issues like infertility, losing a child and becoming widowed. Her favorite stories are those that inspire laughter through tears.

Susan is an avid, but terrible golfer, and a woman who desperately wants to lean to cook without having to involve the fire department.

ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?

SUSAN: Every day. LOL Honestly, I believe that’s the only way to write. If I can’t lose myself in the story I’m writing then I can’t expect readers to follow me into that world. For DARING TO TRUST THE BOSS, we travel to the Italian countryside, which is enticement enough to get lost! LOL But we do it with Headstrong Olivia and Tucker, who is hiding his past. So we’re in beautiful Italy with some fun characters. It’s very hard NOT to get lost in that story!

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading? 

SUSAN: I remember reading biographies in second grade. But the first book I really remember is one of the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

ANGI: What do you like about the hero of your book?

SUSAN: What I like best about my hero is that I think there’s a little bit of Tucker in all of us. Somewhere along the way, we believe that if we can just be our best every minute of every day, we’ll be okay. But when he meets Olivia who is proud and painfully honest, he begins to realize he’s missing out on the best part of life by not having any emotions and hoping everything will be perfect. When he decides to change he becomes a wonderful person. Good looking, rich, fun. Who could ask for anything more! LOL

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?

SUSAN: I could listen to the ocean all day. Or the sound of rainfall. We have vaulted ceilings, which means our bedroom ceiling is the roof! So when it rains, it drums against the ceiling and is beautifully soothing.

ANGI: I understand what you mean. Here's a snippit from my last visit to Florida...

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?

SUSAN: I like action adventure. I like to see “ordinary” people put into a difficult situation and get out.  

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?

SUSAN: At the age of about 12, I wrote a story that I was positive Jack and Jill magazine would publish. When it came back rejected, even though the editors were wonderfully kind, I was crushed. It was the story of a little girl who is at home when her mom has an accident and she calls the ambulance and takes care of her little brother. Not much plot, but she was a hero! LOL.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?

SUSAN: That’s so hard to say. I love Steel Magnolias, but I also love The Terminator movies! And the Star Trek movies! LOL

ANGI: That's so cool. I LOVE the Terminator movies. My husband just received All the Star Trek films on Blue Ray and we had a weekend of one after the other. "Everyone remember where we parked."

 

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?

SUSAN: Oh, I love food. To me food is love. LOL (And we all know that’s not true!) But I love chocolate marshmallow cookies and chocolate cupcakes the way other people love their families. LOL! (I should be ashamed!)

ANGI: How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?

SUSAN: To be honest, it’s magnificent! LOL Pretty people can do things that the rest of us mere mortals can’t! And for a few hours every day it’s fun to be in their world. But at the end of the day, or in the moment of crisis, they are just like everybody else and it’s a lot of fun for me to show that.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: What's the one thing you'd do if you had extra time?

SUSAN's GOTTA ANSWER: I would love to learn to cook. I’d love to be one of those people who has people over and showers them with delicious food. I think that’s the ultimate love. Unfortunately, I can’t cook anything! LOL Maybe someday.
