EXIT STRATEGY
an Exit, Inc thriller
Avon Publishing

When Sabrina Hightower awakens to the sound of an intruder, she figures he's there to rob her, murder her— or worse. She doesn't expect to be carried off by a muscle-bound stud with male-model good looks . . . or that he came to rescue her.

Mason Hunt became an enforcer with EXIT Inc. to eliminate the bad guys—terrorists, militia groups, all those who would do America harm. But his latest target is innocent. If EXIT could lie about sultry, strong-willed Sabrina, what darker truths might they be concealing?

Going rogue in the rugged North Carolina mountains, Mason risks everything to keep Sabrina close, especially now that EXIT's lethal assassins are chasing them down. The heat is on . . . but it's nothing compared to the slow burn of seduction.

EXIT STRATEGY Q&A
ANGI: What do you like about your hero, Mason, in EXIT STRATEGY?
LENA: Even though Mason is an assassin, he has a strict moral compass. He believes what he’s doing is right, that he’s killing only bad guys so he can protect the innocent (kind of like the movie Minority Report). But the second he realizes something isn’t right with an execution order, that the woman he’s been ordered to kill might not be guilty of what EXIT Inc. says she’s done, he gives up everything and puts his own life on the line to save her. Because it’s the right thing to do. I love that about him!

ANGI: What do you like about your heroine, Sabrina, in EXIT STRATEGY??
LENA: Sabrina’s love and loyalty to family drives all of her decisions. Her life could be easy, simple, and safe if she turns her back on her family and stops digging for answers. But even though everyone else has done exactly that, she refuses to stop digging. Family is everything to her, even if it means risking her own life to protect them.

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
LENA: My father. Unfortunately he’s no longer here with us, but he’s forever in my heart. When I was a little girl on a road trip with my family, we came upon a car accident in the mountains. A woman had slammed her car into a utility pole, knocking the power lines down so they were hanging a few feet above the car. She was dying, bleeding to death. But even the firemen at the scene refused to go under the power lines until the electricity was shut off. My father was a trained Navy man and he did what his training told him to do--save lives. He went under those power lines and pulled that woman out of the car. He saved her life. And that’s only one of many reasons that he will always be my hero.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie?
LENA: I’m a movie addict so I refuse to pick just one. Ever After, Die Hard, Independence Day, and Knotting Hill come to mind. Love them all!

ANGI: What’s the favorite thing you learned about North Carolina for EXIT STRATEGY?
LENA: Most of what I learned did NOT go into the book. I ended up mainly just using the mountains and terrain as my backdrop because the culture and colloquialisms that I came across, even though they were fun and fascinating, just seemed to pull the reader out of the story and slow the pacing. And since I’ve been to the Carolina’s several times, I included the one main thing I love - those gorgeous mountains.

ANGI: What’s your favorite TV rerun?
LENA: Grey’s Anatomy. Every. Single. Episode.

ANGI: Do your hero and heroine have a song?
LENA: How about “Staying Alive”! (Bee Gees)

ANGI: What’s your favorite dessert?
LENA: Capt’n Jack’s Buried Treasure® (ice cream cake with Oreo® cookie crust, caramel, chocolate fudge and Heath Bar® crunch from The Ale House)

ANGI: Would you own a little piggy today?
LENA: No, but I did have a lot of fun dressing piglets in doll clothes and feeding them from a bottle when I was a little girl visiting my Aunt’s farm every summer.

ANGI: Who would play Mason in the movie version of EXIT STRATEGY?
LENA: Joe Manganiello, minus the mustache

ANGI: Who would play Sabrina in the movie version of EXIT STRATEGY?
LENA: Zooey Deschanel

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
LENA: Armageddon

ANGI: What's your most favorite thing to do in Florida?
LENA: Anything inside. Did I mention it’s HOT down here?

ANGI: Have you seen an alligator?
LENA: I live in Florida. Is this a trick question?

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: You were a Navy Brat… Where is the favorite place you lived? And what makes it so special?

LENA’s GOTTA ANSWER: Unlike a lot of Navy Brat’s, I didn’t get to go overseas. Bummer on that. I’ve lived in California, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Florida. Kentucky has my heart because I was born there and love the hills and farmland and horses. But I have to pick Florida as my favorite because I’ve lived here most of my life. And because this is where my family is. Believe it or not, I’m not a fan of the beach. If I had to choose my most favorite place to live it would be in the mountains.
