Welcome Award-winning Author Sharon Ashwood

Today I’m welcoming RITA® award winning author Sharon Ashwood to Get Lost in a Story. She’s gracing us with the story behind her story A ROYAL FINISH, and I’m so excited to have her here. Sharon is a novelist, desk jockey, and enthusiast for the weird and spooky. She has an English literature degree but works as a finance geek. Interests include growing her to-be-read pile and playing with the toy graveyard on her desk. As a vegetarian, she freely admits the whole vampire/werewolf lifestyle would never work out, so she writes her adventures instead.

Sharon is the winner of the RITA® Award for Paranormal Romance. She lives in the Pacific Northwest and is owned by the Demon Lord of Kitty Badness.

Hi Get Lost in a Story!

I love to see a cunning plan come together, especially a royal wedding!

Back when I began the Horsemen series, I built it around the marriage of Prince Kyle and Princess Amelie, the heirs to two warring kingdoms. Their union would bring peace to a pair of tiny, beautiful Mediterranean countries that had been at odds for a thousand years. Very conveniently, the wedding of Kate and William came along shortly thereafter to add real-life inspiration to the story (and that tells you how long it takes to get books from proposal to printing!).

Now that the actual royal couple is blessed with two beautiful children, my pair will

finally make it to the altar in Possessed by the Fallen. Not that there aren’t a few final bumps in the way, but we get to see more of Kyle and Amelie—and more of Kyle in action. Although the series can be read out of order, those who have followed it from the start will see the final fate of a few key items—such as the famous wedding dress and the ring, both of which were objects of mystery in previous stories. Possessed by the Fallen also brings the story of the Horsemen full circle, back to the start of the very first book. All the dangling threads are finally sewn up.

As for the royal wedding itself, it has extra significance because of Amelie’s bloodline. Her mother was secretly descended from the Light Fey, and because the fairy people are magical beings, they require a strong tie to the mortal world in order to stay on the physical plane. The wedding will prevent them from fading away and ensuring magic survives in the mortal world.

However, this added layer of significance gives others plenty of reasons to stop the wedding. No wonder the loyal vampires of Marcari have been so busy keeping the wedding on track!

Protection duty during the final wedding countdown falls to the vampire Jack, once leader of the super-spies known as the Horsemen.  He has the help of Lark, a Light Fey, who previously fell prey to enemy agents, but she’s back with a vengeance—and a desire to reunite with Jack.

Lark and Jack might seem an unlikely pair to usher in wedding bells, but don’t underestimate their flair for a dramatic romance. They bring the series home in style. And in a sumptuous Mediterranean country that is home not just to humans, but to fey, vampires, werewolves, and other mysterious creatures, this is definitely the wedding they’ve been awaiting for the last thousand years.
