Laura Scott is new to the blog but not new to the writing world. She's a busy lady who has time management down to a science. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: I'm often asked when I started writing and I have to be honest, I can't remember when I wasn't writing. I loved books as a kid and like many authors I ran out of stories that I liked to read so I began to make up my own. I wrote my first teen novel when I was thirteen and my first romance when I was seventeen. Of course neither manuscript was very good, but I never gave up and after I finished Graduate school I decided to take some time for myself and get back to my writing. I'm so glad I did!

I grew up reading faith based books by Grace Livingston Hill so writing for Love Inspired Suspense is a dream come true. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.

I’m a nurse by day and a writer by night. I currently live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with my husband of thirty years. I have two adult children but alas, no weddings or grandchildren yet, but hopefully soon!

Jan Schliesman: How often do you Get Lost In A Story?

Laura Scott: All the time! I have always loved reading and still do.  When a great story grabs me at the beginning and pulls me in will often result in me staying up way past my bedtime!

Jan: Nursing is your day job. Have you used any of that knowledge in previous characters?

Laura: I used much of my day job experience when I wrote Forgotten Memories, the heroine is a trauma surgeon and I worked in the Trauma ICU. I also use my medical background for when I allow my characters to get hurt, in fact I sometimes write final scenes in hospital rooms, lol. Working in a large level one trauma center we also see a lot of criminals get injured so I interact with a lot of cops. The cops I work with were the inspiration for my entire SWAT series.

Jan: What do you love most about Mirror Image?

Laura: I really love my tough sharpshooter heroine, Jenna. She’s had to make her way in a man’s world and I think many women can relate to that. I also love the idea of troubled teens turning their lives around, so I incorporated that into this book too. Finally, from the moment I introduced Lieutenant Griff Vaughn I knew he’d need his own story, and decided he’d be the one to wrap up the series.

Jan: What snacks always occupy your writing space?

Laura: I don’t have any snacks, but each night when I meet my goals I reward myself with a few small pieces of dark chocolate. My favorite!

Jan: Are you a plotter or pantser?  Do you have to have a detailed outline before you start writing or do you write until you get stuck?

Laura: I used to be more of a pantser, but now have to do more plotting to make my editor happy and to prevent several rewrites. I have to say, that as much as I fight being a plotter, it does make my life simpler in the long run.

Jan: Any writing rituals you follow? Celebrate a certain way when it’s completed?

Laura: Mirror Image is my 40^th book for Harlequin and I still jump up and down and celebrate with a glass of wine when I finish a book. The thrill of typing The End never goes away. J

Jan: It was love at first sight when I met my hubby. How about you?

Laura: My hubby proposed to me on Valentine’s day 24 days after we met! I lived with my sister at the time and remember telling her that I knew that Scott was the guy I was going to marry, but that I didn’t want to go too fast and scare him off. Turned out, he was the one who went fast. We didn’t get married until a year later, but I still remember how upset his parents were. They love me now, but then? Whoa, they were not happy.

Jan Schliesman: Best vacation you’ve ever taken?

Laura: Last year in May we celebrated our 30^th wedding anniversary with a Mediterranean cruise! We had the best time, and saw so many wonderful things. I am not sure how we’ll top that for our 35^th anniversary but I’m willing to try.
