MISTAKEN
IDENTITY
When
someone attempts to kidnap SWAT cop Jenna Reed, what saves her is her training
and the impeccable timing of her boss, Lieutenant Griff Vaughn. Then they find
the real target hiding in the bushes, a runaway teen who is Jenna's
look-alike…and the sister she never knew she had. Teaming up to unravel her
sister's past and find the human-trafficking thugs who intend to kill her,
Jenna and Griff have no choice but to go on the run—outside the law. But with
time running out—and their all-too-unprofessional attraction proving difficult
to ignore—can Jenna and Griff protect Jenna's sister and take down the
criminals without sacrificing their careers…or their lives?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: I'm
often asked when I started writing and I have to be honest, I can't remember
when I wasn't writing. I loved books as a kid and like many authors I ran out
of stories that I liked to read so I began to make up my own. I wrote my first
teen novel when I was thirteen and my first romance when I was seventeen. Of
course neither manuscript was very good, but I never gave up and after I
finished Graduate school I decided to take some time for myself and get back to
my writing. I'm so glad I did!
I
grew up reading faith based books by Grace Livingston Hill so writing for Love
Inspired Suspense is a dream come true. I hope you enjoy reading them as much
as I enjoy writing them.
I’m a
nurse by day and a writer by night. I currently live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
with my husband of thirty years. I have two adult children but alas, no
weddings or grandchildren yet, but hopefully soon!
Jan Schliesman: How often do you Get Lost In A Story?
Laura Scott: All the time! I have always loved reading and still do. When a great story grabs me at the beginning
and pulls me in will often result in me staying up way past my bedtime!
Laura: I used much of my day job experience when I wrote Forgotten Memories,
the heroine is a trauma surgeon and I worked in the Trauma ICU. I also use my
medical background for when I allow my characters to get hurt, in fact I
sometimes write final scenes in hospital rooms, lol. Working in a large level
one trauma center we also see a lot of criminals get injured so I interact with
a lot of cops. The cops I work with were the inspiration for my entire SWAT
series.
Jan: What do you love
most about Mirror Image?
Laura: I really love my tough sharpshooter heroine, Jenna. She’s had to make
her way in a man’s world and I think many women can relate to that. I also love
the idea of troubled teens turning their lives around, so I incorporated that
into this book too. Finally, from the moment I introduced Lieutenant Griff
Vaughn I knew he’d need his own story, and decided he’d be the one to wrap up
the series.
Jan: What snacks always occupy your writing space?
Laura: I don’t have any snacks, but each night when I meet my goals I reward myself with a few small pieces of dark chocolate. My favorite!
Jan: Are you a plotter
or pantser? Do you have to have a
detailed outline before you start writing or do you write until you get stuck?
Laura: I used to be more of a pantser, but now have to do more plotting to
make my editor happy and to prevent several rewrites. I have to say, that as
much as I fight being a plotter, it does make my life simpler in the long run.
Jan: Any writing
rituals you follow? Celebrate a certain way when it’s completed?
Laura: Mirror Image is my 40th book for Harlequin and I still jump
up and down and celebrate with a glass of wine when I finish a book. The thrill
of typing The End never goes away. J
Jan: It was love at
first sight when I met my hubby. How about you?
Laura: My hubby proposed to me on Valentine’s day 24 days after we met! I
lived with my sister at the time and remember telling her that I knew that
Scott was the guy I was going to marry, but that I didn’t want to go too fast
and scare him off. Turned out, he was the one who went fast. We didn’t get
married until a year later, but I still remember how upset his parents were.
They love me now, but then? Whoa, they were not happy.
Jan Schliesman: Best vacation
you’ve ever taken?
Laura: Last year in May we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary
with a Mediterranean cruise! We had the best time, and saw so many wonderful
things. I am not sure how we’ll top that for our 35th anniversary
but I’m willing to try.

NEXT: I’m
really excited about my next release, I’m doing another series called Callahan
Confidential. The first book is Shielding His Christmas Witness. The hero is
Marc Callahan the oldest of the six Callahan siblings and his key witness, Kari
Danville is in danger. She’s also pregnant! Unfortunately I don’t have a cover
yet. (Sob).

ReplyDeleteGreat having you here, Laura! I think the best vacation we ever took was a trip to Vegas in the fall two years ago. My hubby won it for selling lots of Haagen Dazs:)
ReplyDeleteI would eat way more Haagen Dazs than I'd sell, lol!
ReplyDeleteThat is a problem...
DeleteMy best vacations were the ones I was able to spend with my grandparents! I really miss those times! Enjoyed reading the Q&A! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHawaii
ReplyDeleteWith my hubby, Florida. Nothing like warmer weather and a beach.
ReplyDeleteSorry about my late response, of course I had internet troubles! Power outages due to snow in April. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI loved Hawaii too, and we always went up to visit my Grandparents and cousins in northern Wisconsin when I was a kid. Great Memories!
After the snow we just had in Milwaukee, I'm thinking Florida near a beach sounds perfect! Thanks for commenting...
My honeymoon to The Greystone Inn at Lake Toxaway, NC Mountain, waterfalls and a boat cruise on the lake each evening. Also, the best food I have ever eaten and the rooms were so nice.
ReplyDeleteSadly I've never really had a vacation
