Through My Lens: One World Trade Center

Height is not my favorite thing. Not even close as you can tell from this picture.
But after I turned 50 I promised myself it wouldn't hold me back. Sometimes I'm the only one who can feel the building sway...oh wait, that might be me. Yeah, being high high up makes me light-headed. In case you don't make it to the One World Trade building... here are some photos from our trip two weeks ago.

BEFORE YOU FREAK ...
This is not glass. It's a projection onto plastic from the street level.

THE Q&A
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
TARA: Every day! I’ve been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite childhood memories are visits to the library. I loved to come home and spread out a blanket in the backyard on a warm summer’s day and proceed to read all afternoon. If only we could do this as often as we wanted now that we are adults! The love of a good story stayed with me and I always have my nose in a book.

ANGI: What’s your favorite thing about your book’s hero?
TARA: Deke Matthews views life very seriously. He’s what I’d call a deep thinker, which is exactly the type of hero the heroine, Grace, needs in her life. Grace also helps him lighten up some, which is a great balance. Because he isn’t the type of guy to shy away from the hard questions, I felt like I stretched as a writer while working on this book.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
TARA: While You Were Sleeping. Love, love, love that movie!

ANGI: What’s your perfect day?
TARA: Spending time with my husband or daughter. My husband and I own a business together, so we got out to lunch often. It’s nice to get away from the demands of life and chat about nothing and everything.  My daughter and I have passes to the Disney World theme parks, so we drive to Orlando about once a month. It’s something we share together and the perk is that I get time with my daughter all to myself.

ANGI: Salad or soup?
TARA: Soup in the winter, salad all year round. I love combing different ingredients in new recipes. Depending on produce available at different times of the year, I do a lot of experimenting. I love vegetable/bean soup. Or salad with just about anything added to lettuce.

ANGI: Would you put yourself in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
TARA: Probably a fairy tale. Thinking back to the stories I read while growing up, I enjoyed these stories because there is always so much going on in the books; adventure, romance, action, they have everything. I still read fairy tales, or clever variations of timeless tales, that captured my attention as a kid.

ANGI: Favorite TV rerun you watch every time you channel surf?
TARA: Law & Order or Modern Family. I know, a weird combination. I love police procedurals but sometime they can get heavy and I need a good laugh. The writers of Modern Family are smart and funny.

ANGI: Geek or Jock?
TARA: Jock. My husband is very athletic so I guess I have a type.

ANGI’s GOTTA ASK:  Where is your favorite writing place & why?

TARA’S GOTTA ANSWER:  My office. It’s quiet and once I get into the zone, I don’t want to leave. I have a big window with a view of my backyard. All my reference materials are in one place so it’s convenient.

The river runs wild
Former Fish & Wildlife Officer Charlotte "Charlee" Tanner still carries the guilt of a tragic drowning accident that occurred on her watch. But no wilder than their passion
Tough and decisive, Lieutenant Hunter Boudreau loves his new job as a law enforcement officer with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. Charlee is his best friend, so when she comes under fire, he's not letting her out of his sight until the killer is caught. But Charlee won't sit by and let anyone else die for her.

As danger closes in and Charlee and Hunter's attraction threatens to consume them, Charlee has to decide if she can trust Hunter. And to save Charlee, Hunter will have to trust her, too.

THE Q&A
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
CONNIE: Whenever I get a spare minute—and often when I should be doing something else! I get twitchy if I don’t have a nice-sized stack of books on hand, and usually slip my Kindle into my bag so I always have options while waiting anywhere. I try to read at least 45 minutes every night before bed. Ahem, except for nights when I get lost in a great story and it’s 2:00 am before I look up. Then I’m totally unrepentant, but bleary-eyed and sucking down caffeine the next morning.

ANGI: What’s your favorite thing about your book’s hero?
CONNIE:  Only one? Hunter is everything you want in a hero. Former military, tough cop, hard body, slow Cajun drawl (be still my heart), but my favorite thing about him is the way he sees Charlee, the heroine. Of course, he likes the way she looks, but it’s his absolute confidence in her abilities and instincts—especially when she’s big-time doubting herself—that makes me love him all the more.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
CONNIE: I think it will always be Dirty Dancing, hands down. The way Patrick Swayze looked at Jennifer Grey during some of those dance scenes…swoon. And I love the way he came back for her and made sure everyone saw her the way he did. “Nobody puts Baby in the corner.” Such a great story.

ANGI: What’s your perfect day?
CONNIE: Since I’m a boat captain in my “other” life, my favorite days always involve water. Nothing beats the chance to spend time with family and friends on our small boat, either out in the Gulf of Mexico or in the Atlantic. (We live right in the middle of the state, so we can go either way.) If we also get to walk on the beach at either sunrise or sunset? Double bonus. There is nothing better in the world.

ANGI: Salad or soup?
CONNIE: Totally depends on the time of year. In the summer, I love great big salads, and I often throw fresh and dried fruit and nuts in there to jazz things up. In the winter, especially if I’ll be out on the water, I throw everything but the kitchen sink into my crockpot so I’ll have a hearty soup/stew ready when I get home.

ANGI: Would you put yourself in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
CONNIE:
Definitely Action Adventure. I would love to hunt for pirate treasure with the likes of Matthew McConaughey (Fool’s Gold) or run around searching for artifacts with Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones)—as long as there were no snakes. There absolutely cannot be snakes. Shudder.

ANGI: Favorite TV rerun you watch every time you channel surf?
CONNIE: I’ll watch NCIS every time, no matter how often I’ve seen that episode. I love the dynamics between the team, though I will admit it’s not quite the same without Abby. The writing doesn’t seem to be quite as clear and hard-hitting as it used to be, in my opinion. But I still love the show.

ANGI: Favorite date night…fancy or at home?
CONNIE: I can’t remember the last time we had a fancy night out, unless it was somebody’s wedding! We’re more pizza-and-a-movie-at-home kind of people, and we take turns choosing the movie. (I don’t want to watch blood and guts ALL the time, LOL!) In the winter, hubby builds a fire in the fireplace, which I love.

ANGI’s GOTTA ASK:  SHOW ME YOUR SHOES… Why are these your favorite?
CONNIE’S GOTTA ANSWER:  I love these little booties because they’re cute and sassy—and completely different from the sturdy (read: boring) work shoes I wear with my captain’s uniform. Since I can only wear them for a few days in Florida before it’s back to flip-flops, you’ll find me in them every chance I get. I’m probably breaking some fashion rule, but I don’t care.

Orphaned as a child in Russia, boat captain Sasha Petrov has spent most of her life adrift, anchored only by her loving foster family. But Mama has other plans: she wants her three foster daughters to find Tony, the biological son who disappeared twenty years earlier.

Sasha agrees to try, but that’s easier said than done when bad boy Jesse Claybourne shows up, reigniting an old attraction. Back in Safe Harbor on a quest of his own, Jesse gets tangled up in Sasha’s search, and soon the two are close to uncovering an old town secret that some will stop at nothing to protect.

When Jesse is violently beaten and Sasha’s dog is poisoned, they realize the past is hiding something more sinister than they ever imagined. Can they uncover the truth without destroying Sasha’s family and breaking each other’s hearts, or are they sailing against the wind?

HIDDEN THREAT
Safe Harbor Series Book #2

She’ll uncover who’s poisoning her hometown—at any cost.

An environmental crisis is the last thing clean-water crusader Eve Jackson expected in her hometown. She’s used to taking on powerful DC politicians in her fight, but when a baby in Safe Harbor, Florida, shows mysterious signs of possible poisoning, the danger hits painfully close to home, stirring memories of her own mother’s death.

Eve’s search leads her to the Sutton Ranch, now run by her high school crush, Cole. Focused on keeping the family ranch afloat as a series of deformed calves are born to his herd, Cole has no time for Eve’s crusade. But as her unwelcome questioning ostracizes her from locals, Cole’s irritation turns to intrigue—not only about the source of the poisoned water but also the tenacious, loyal, and passionate woman determined to help.

As Eve digs deeper into Cole’s operation, she sees her suspicions in Sutton Ranch may be misplaced. Yet she can’t shake the feeling that his ranch, and perhaps his past, hold the answers she seeks. When the sabotage escalates, the two must work together to uncover the culprit—if they can survive the investigation.

The Amazing Melinda Curtis

KISSED BY THE COUNTRY DOC
The Mountain Monroes

She came to sell a town…
But she found a home

Never in her wildest dreams could single mom Ella Monroe imagine co-inheriting the small town of Second Chance, Idaho—or falling for its curmudgeonly doctor, Noah Bishop. Despite his rough edges and protests for isolation, Noah has her believing in love at first sight again. But when she’s pressured to sell her stake, Ella is torn between family loyalty and following her heart.

USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author, MELINDA CURTIS is the award winning author of contemporary romance that spans the sexy scale - from sweet romance to sweet romantic comedy (written under the Melinda Curtis brand) to fun, sexier romances (written under the Mel Curtis brand).

Prior to writing romance, Melinda was a junior manager for a Fortune 500 company, which meant when she flew on the private jet she was relegated to the jump seat—otherwise known as the potty. After grabbing her pen (and a parachute) she made the jump to full-time writer, focusing on sweet romance for Harlequin and indie-pubbed sweet romantic comedy. She recently came to grips with the fact that she’s an empty nester and a grandma, concepts easier to grasp than jet-setting on a potty.

THE Q&A
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
MELINDA: My own? Or someone else’s? LOL. I try to read a book a week. I LOVE historical romance (could not write it if I tried).

ANGI: What’s your favorite thing about your book’s hero?
MELINDA: I love writing wounded heroes who have avoided dealing with a painful past until a heroine comes along who isn’t going to let him brush her aside. Dr. Noah Bishop was a well-known, orthopedic surgeon in New York, operating on professional athletes. Now that he can’t be a surgeon – essentially, his identity is stripped from him – Noah doesn’t know who he is. That makes a hero really interesting to me. Plus, doctors are notorious for having chips on their shoulders. That mix of strength, smarts and ego versus a vulnerability of “who am I if not a surgeon” is something I love in any hero.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
MELINDA: Pride and Prejudice, Kiera Knightly version. Practically perfect in every way.

ANGI: What’s your perfect day?
MELINDA: Rise at 3 am, work until I go to the gym by 5:30, get hubster off to work by 7 am, work uninterrupted until 4 or 5 pm when I have to figure out what to make for dinner. Watch a favorite sports team play or binge a DIY show where they restore old farmhouses. Asleep by 9. It’s boring, but I like it.

ANGI: Salad or soup?
MELINDA: Salad. I often have a green salad for breakfast.

ANGI: Would you put yourself in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
MELINDA: Fairy tale. I’d be someone’s fairy godmother.

ANGI: Champagne or Soda?
MELINDA: I’m a wine or coffee person. I suppose that means no carbonation!

ANGI: The most favorite trip you’ve ever taken is…
MELINDA: A cruise through the Mediterranean – Italy, Greece, Turkey. We saved and planned a year in advance. My husband used to teach history, so it was like having my own personal tour guide (he was awesome the time we went to Washington, D.C., too). Favorite destination: Pompeii. Probably helped that Kit Harington was just in the movie by the same name the year before we went – lol.

ANGI’s GOTTA ASK:  SHOW ME YOUR SHOES…

MELINDA’S GOTTA ANSWER:  Dorky, but yes, it’s my garden/rain boots. I wear them every day. We have two little dogs with equally small bladders. The crazy thing about little dogs? They have super-strong pack drive, which means they don’t always like to venture outside alone (i.e., they want a companion to potty outside). Me? I like to preserve my pedicure, so I wear boots outside even when it’s 100 degrees in summer.
