Event planner Samantha Hunter is prepared for a few challenges when escorting a group of good ole boy beer distributors to Paris, the city of haute cuisine and fine wines. However, she doesn’t foresee being passed up for a promotion because she is too professional and doesn’t knock back beers with her clients. Her focus soon switches from landing the well-deserved promotion to finding her free-spirited sister, who lives in Paris and has disappeared, leaving behind family secrets to be uncovered. A sexy puppeteer helps Samantha search for clues to her sister’s whereabouts and teaches her to embrace her inner child. And a funeral-crashing psychic demonstrates the importance of living life to the fullest. It takes Samantha’s life spiraling out of control for her to finally get a life.

 

And now... we learn about Eliza Watson!

DONNELL:  Welcome to Get Lost in a Story, Eliza, oh my gosh, that blurb sounds delicious.  I love the message it sends out – living life to its fullest and a life spinning out of control to get there.  How much fun/angst/trouble was it to write this novel?

 

ELIZA:  I started this book many moons ago and I have rewritten it numerous times, so that caused a bit of angst. However, it was a lot of fun to write and research. When my husband and I vacationed in Prague and Budapest back in 2007, I stopped over in Paris on the way home for a few days to conduct research. I befriended a puppeteer who welcomed me into his shed and allowed me to view a puppet performance from behind the scenes. It was an incredible experience. I also toured hospital maternity words and Pigalle—the red-light district.

 

DONNELL:  Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you travel a bit.  True/False?  Where would you say is one of the most charming/eclectic places you’ve ever been, and where is somewhere you think is overrated?

 

ELIZA: Yes, I travel a lot for my job as an event planner. Outside of Paris and Ireland—my two favorite spots in the world—I would say Morocco is one of the more unique places I’ve visited. It isn’t as westernized as many international locations and has retained much of its charm.

 

DONNELL:  What inspired this novel?

 

ELIZA:  I am an event planner like the book’s heroine Samantha. I’m all-too-familiar with the type of challenges she faces throughout the book—even though they are fictional—so I knew how to make her suffer, which of course makes her stronger in the end. The setting was an easy choice, as I’ve already noted Paris is one of my favorite cities.

 

DONNELL:  When you’re not writing, where will we  find you?

 

ELIZA:  In a hotel room, traveling for work. When I’m not on the road, I’m usually at home doing something writing related, be it a new book, promo, research, etc. Although, we just bought a vacation home in Ireland so hopefully you will find me there quite a bit in the near future!

 

DONNELL:  Would you say you’re a morning or night person?

 

ELIZA: No hesitation there, I’m definitely a night person.

 

DONNELL:  What’s in your refrigerator right now?

 

ELIZA:  Probably a lot of mold because I’ve been so busy promoting my book that housecleaning isn’t a priority. But underneath the mold, you’d find lots of cheese (I’m a cheese freak.), tomato juice, and Skinny Cow ice cream bars.

 

DONNELL:  Favorite tradition?

 

ELIZA:  I’m obsessed with Christmas and I have a tradition of decorating my home the weekend after Thanksgiving. I’ve also been attending Milwaukee’s Irish Fest (the world’s largest Irish Fest) for several years and many of my friends and family members stay at Beth’s B & B for the event. This will take place next weekend, starting August 16. Slainte!

 

DONNELL:  If you could meet anyone, past or present, who would it be, and why?

 

ELIZA: I could say Oscar Wilde because The Importance of Being Ernest is my absolute favorite play, but you probably hear his name a lot. So I will say Lawrence Sanders, who unfortunately passed away fifteen years ago. I was a huge reader before I went to college. During college, I studied so much I rarely read for fun. About a year after graduating, I mentioned to my now husband how much I missed reading for fun and he recommended the McNally series by Lawrence Sanders. He said it was a quick and light read. I laughed through the entire first book then devoured every book in the series. So I’d like to take Lawrence Sanders out to dinner and thank him for enabling me to rediscover my love for reading, which ultimately led to my becoming a writer. His writing style also influenced the type of books I wanted to write.
