Get Lost in Angel Unleashed by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

ANGEL UNLEASHED
Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

A fine line between vengeance and desire…
As an immortal Blood Knight, Rhys de Troyes is familiar with quests. It's obvious that the ethereal beauty who just arrived in London is on one of her own. But Avery Arcadia Quinn seems intent on keeping her secrets, even as Rhys strips away all her defenses.
A grounded angel, Avery seeks to recover the wings stolen from her centuries ago when the Knights were created from her suffering and pain. She swore vengeance, but her burning connection with Rhys threatens to consume her anger, her mission…and even her vow to destroy him.

A Sneak Peek at Angel Unleashed

She had come for tattoos. Those new tats were vivid, red and raw, adding an overlay of color that contrasted greatly with her skin. She’d chosen wings. Dark blue, light blue and gray feathers with blood-red tips spanned from one of her shoulders to the other, expertly filled in. The result was spectacular.

Rhys stared intently at this incredible apparition.

Strands of her white hair—long, straight, shiny—cascaded over one of her shoulders to partially cover the right side of the tattoo. Both shoulders quaked slightly, not from cold, but as if the violence of the needles used to create the wings had affected her. Her emotional turmoil was discernible from where he stood.

Although she was aware of him, the graceful creature on that cot didn’t turn around. Maybe she waited for him to make the first move. Unfortunately, that move didn’t include any of the demands he had planned on using for getting to the root of who she was and what she was up to. What bubbled up from him instead was a show of sympathy.

“Bloody hell,” he whispered hoarsely. “What have you done?”

More on the Blood Knight Brotherhood

Immortals. Angels. London. Deadly quests... Welcome to the world of the Blood Knight Brotherhood, where danger lurks around every corner, and there's always something new in the shadows.

You  might have already met some of my sexy Knights in this stand-alone series of books. If you haven't, here's a brief rundown on the tales.

Made immortal in the time of the Round Table and recruited for a specific quest involving the Holy Grail, seven knights became known as the Blood Knight Brotherhood, or The Seven. One knight per book is how we meet them today, in our century, still pursuing their quest. I guess we could say my Blood Knights are the knights of old, much updated, much sexier . . . and way more dangerous.

In "Golden Vampire," we met Lancelot, going by the name of Lance. In "Guardian of the Night," and "Immortal Obsession" we met two more dark, hunky Blood Knights. In "Immortal Redeemed" we met a gloriously leather-clad Galahad, now calling himself Kellan and riding a Harley instead of a steed.

In "Angel Unleashed," we find Rhys de Troyes, another Blood Knight, in London. This time, however, it might not be a mortal woman who attracts his attention. It just might turn out to be another immortal with a quest of her own.

What could bring downed angel Avery Arcadia Quinn to London, and why is she hiding from the Blood Knights? Where are her wings? Why is the attraction between Avery and Rhys so immediate and overwhelming?

Immortal versus immortal is how this goes down . . . Blood Knight vs Angel. And plenty of sparks fly.

Avery's story was inspired by a couple of images I had found and taped to the wall above my desk. I've included them here so you can see a bit of what Avery should look like... and also see an image of Rhys.

I love fast-paced stories about danger and the supernatural. I love writing about forbidden love, and how that might work out.  So, if, like me, you adore magical words like danger, sexy, and forever... this book is dedicated to you.

Cheers for now-
Linda

WEREWOLVES, oh my!

Hello, readers, writers, bloggers. Linda Thomas-Sundstrom here with a short post about two new re-issues from my Wolf Moons series novellas that have come out from Nocturne this year. Wolf Bait and Moon Marked.
You might know by now that I love writing about hunky, sexy, alpha Weres whose intelligence shines through their big blue/green eyes, and who are extraordinarily loyal to a cause of their choice . . . which is usually to protect their species from us regular old human beings finding out about their existence. Of course, some of us are already in on this secret. And some us covet time with these guys. I'm one. Are you?
Both of these stories are set in Miami - where the sun is hot and the werewolves are hotter. Both stories deal with the kind of woman it will take to corral a sexy Were . . . and the volcanic bliss of two bodies when they meet.
So if you just are in need of a story that won't take up too much of your time . . .Stories that promise a fast-paced romp through the world of full moons and sexy beasts . .  .I'd love for you to try these. Pretty please.

Here are just a few fun facts from my HISTORY AND LORE OF WEREWOLVES lectures to whet your appetite:

1. Werewolves were first noted in prehistoric times, in cave drawings.
2. The first documented sighting of werewolves was in Ireland in 1180.
3. France seems to have been the heart of European werewolf activity in the 16th and 17th centuries.
4. Certain countries around the world still believe in the existence of Werewolves today? Yep. True. (can we say France?)
5. Most famous werewolf poem: (you might recognize this from the movies) "When the Wolfsbane Blooms."

"Even a man who is pure of heart

And says his prayers at night

Might become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms

and the moon is full and bright."

So.....here I am, digging into this species with my own claws, hoping you'll come along on this wild ride with me and enjoy a novella or two. And if you need longer, meatier fare, try one of my full Wolf tales from Nocturne, the latest of which are: Wolf Born, Wolf Hunter, Seduced by the Moon, and Half Wolf. And stay tuned for Desert Wolf this coming August.

But the magic of the fae had reawakened a man once trapped in stone, and Lancelot was determined to find his long lost love. Only, Nim was desperate to hide her fae soul, as she was marked for death by their mutual enemy.

Sharon Ashwood is a novelist, desk jockey and enthusiast for the weird and spooky. She has an English literature degree but works as a finance geek. Interests include growing her to-be-read pile and playing with the toy graveyard on her desk. As a vegetarian, she freely admits the whole vampire/werewolf lifestyle would never work out, so she writes her adventures instead.

Sharon is the winner of the RITA® Award for Paranormal Romance. She lives in the Pacific Northwest and is owned by the Demon Lord of Kitty Badness.

Jan Schliesman: How often do you Get Lost In A Story?
Sharon Ashwood: Whenever I can! I usually have one book I’m reading and another on audiobook. It takes me a while to actually read a book – usually reading is a bedtime activity for me and mileage varies on how long I keep my eyes open – but I listen to audio while I walk to and from work. I’ll go through several books a month that way.

Jan: What are you reading?
Sharon: I’m reading Julia Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me and listening to D.M. Pulley’s The Dead Key. The first is a Regency romance and the second a mystery thriller that has me biting my nails!

Jan: Congratulations on being a RITA finalist! How have contests furthered your career?
Sharon: I got my first publishing contract via a RWA chapter contest, so that was a definite career boost! I’ve won a few contests for published novels, including the RITA for paranormal romance in 2011. Awards are a wonderful endorsement, but they do make me expect more of myself every time I sit down to write. If you’re only ever as good as your last book, a contest win means the bar just got higher!

Jan: What’s the best part about writing paranormal romance?
Sharon: Paranormal romance gives the writer a huge landscape to work with. It has the life-and-death possibilities of a swashbuckler (hello, alpha heroes!) but also the capability to work with all kinds of metaphor. It’s fun but there’s room for some complexity, and the emotional journey can be very extreme.

Jan: Does your heroine have any of your character traits?
Sharon: My heroine, Nimueh, is the fae Lady of the Lake. Her soul has been badly damaged, and this has robbed her of the capacity to feel. When the book begins, she’s just starting to heal. Now, since the soul-sucking monsters I encounter in real life aren’t quite as effective, I can’t say I’ve had the same experience. However, isolation and alienation are things most of us understand, and that’s kind of where she’s at. Nim has to reclaim her emotional balance and then she encounters Lancelot, who hurt her horribly in the past. It’s bad enough running into old lovers, but she’s in a terrible place. They go through quite a ride before things work out.

Jan: Most writers have to find their zone before the words start flowing. Describe your ideal writing day.
Sharon: I’m not an early bird. My brain starts working mid-morning and I can go until late at night. Ideally, I have no one around and no to-do list and I can just write, break for a walk, write, snack, write . . . I work really well in hotel rooms because there’s nothing to distract me. I did some of my best writing at a convention when I was bored with the programming and just curled up with my laptop.

Jan: I keep a case of Dasani in my office. What’s your go-to beverage of choice?
Sharon: Black coffee in the morning and mint tea at night. When I’m really stuck, I go for hot chocolate but that’s getting into self-bribing territory.

Jan: Best vacation you’ve ever taken?
Sharon: A few years ago I spent 3 weeks in England researching a project. It was great because I got out and explored the countryside. There are some amazing natural caves along the Devon coast that bring to mind doorways into hidden kingdoms. Or pirates!

Jan’s GOTTA ASK: My hubby works for Haagen-Dazs, so what’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Sharon’s GOTTA ANSWER: That’s easy! There’s a flavor a local company makes that’s tamarind and cardamom, so it’s tangy and a little bit spicy. I’m not crazy about really sweet flavors, so this is perfect for me.

Get Lost in Immortal Redeemed by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Only one woman holds the key to ending a Blood Knight's eternal life…

Immortal Kellan Ladd has spent centuries looking for the one woman who can put an end to his immortality. But that woman has no idea of her monumental task. Or how much this rebel knight's attraction to her will complicate his mission.
The leather-clad, Harley-riding stranger was the sexiest man McKenna Randall had ever met. From the minute they touched, she knew they were connected. Now she's about to find out just how tightly bound they are, as they go head-to-head with a nest of deadly vampires whose intent is to keep them apart…

Read an Excerpt from Immortal Redeemed

Unable to defend her next move, McKenna stepped closer to him. Rising on tiptoe, she ignored the throb of pain in her injured throat. “Why do you want me, specifically?”
His lips were at eye level, full and closed tight.
“Will you save me from the entire world, Blood Knight? Slay dragons on my behalf, along with more white-faced freaks? I wonder if you will save me from myself?”
She placed a light kiss on his mouth, absorbing the current that kiss produced. He didn’t reach for her or devour her, though he could have. He didn’t do anything at all, just stared down at her.
“Good night,” McKenna said, turning from the man she almost wished would stop her, feeling his heated gaze on her backside as she limped toward the steps.
Turning her back to him was a mistake. If she had expected him to let that kiss go unchallenged, she was wrong. Seconds later, she was backed against the corner of the building with his body pressed to hers.
“You’re making this hard,” he said.
“Then do something about it.”
She watched him blink. She could see his eyes very clearly in the night, despite the lack of light. His bronzed face smoothed to a perfect rendition of managed calmness that McKenna easily saw through. He was fighting to keep from taking what he wanted. In another minute, he’d give in.
She held the gun in her right hand and was ready to use it.

Karen Whiddon Really Rocks!

Welcome another first-timer on the blog, Harlequin Romantic Suspense author, Karen Whiddon!!

What's not to love about a baby on the cover of any book?

Two babies in jeopardy…two powerful stories in one!
When an unhinged cult leader escapes custody, he'll stop at nothing to get to two innocent babies…and the foster mothers who stand in his way.
CLAIMING CALEB by Karen Whiddon
Michelle Morgan must protect her newborn nephew, Caleb—and even work with her ex-fiancĆ©. FBI agent Garrett Ware never wanted children, but now he'll sacrifice everything for this baby…and this woman.

GUARDING EVE by Beth Cornelison
Lila Green goes from foster mom to bodyguard when a storm traps her and six-month-old Eve in a remote mountain cabin with a killer on their heels. Can her neighbor, wounded veteran Dean Hamilton, help them survive?

Award winning author Karen Whiddon spun fanciful tales for her younger brothers as early as the age of eleven.  Growing up in the Catskill Mountains of New York, then the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, she found enough magic in the rugged peaks to keep her imagination fueled for years.

Now making her home in North Texas, she shares her life with her hero-like husband and four doting dogs.  In her spare time, she volunteers for Legacy Boxer Rescue, Inc.  She has published around 45 books.  Currently she writes for Harlequin Romantic Suspense and Harlequin Nocturne.

READ A LITTLE, BUY THE BOOK

Jan Schliesman: How often to you Get Lost In A Story?
Karen Whiddon:  Writing wise – every single day.  Reading wise – I try to read every day (especially since the Rita Books are here to be judged) but I don’t always make it.

Jan: Since your new release has a baby on the cover, tell us how long has it been since you rocked a baby?
Karen:  Haha!  It’s been a looong time.  My baby girl will be 36 next month!

Karen & Jan--2014 Harlequin Party
Jan: How long have you been writing?
Karen:  I wrote my first book in 1988.  So 28 (gulp) years.

Jan: How did you meet your husband?
Karen: My husband and I met at work in 1982.  I worked in the accounting department and he worked in the finance department.   We dated for 4 years, lived together for 1, and married in 1987.  Best decision ever.  He’s my best friend!

Jan: Tell us about your involvement in the Legacy Boxer Rescue.
Karen: I am passionate about my rescue work.  We have a large team of dedicated volunteers in North Texas.  I’ve done shelter evaluations, transport, fostering, and worked on various committees.  One of my favorite things ever is seeing a dog who was about to be euthanized in a shelter get healthy and find their forever home.

Jan: Does your heroine have any of your character traits?
Karen: I think it’s unavoidable that some of the writer’s character traits leak through, but this heroine is fiercely independent, and I am too.

Jan: Most writers have to find their zone before the words start flowing. Describe your ideal writing day.
Karen: Ideal would be a snowstorm outside, fire in the fireplace, cup of hot cocoa with whipped cream on top, sitting in my recliner and smelling the scent of something delicious cooking in the crockpot.  Unfortunately, since I live in North Texas, snow days are rare here.  But I love when I get them!

Jan: How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Karen: A long time ago, my husband and I used to go out for a fancy dinner.  We’d battle the crowds, get dressed up, and go.  Then several years back, we cancelled our reservations at a swanky Italian place and went to Chili’s and had hamburgers.  The hamburgers became our Valentine’s Day tradition, though lately we’ve gone to Red Robin instead of Chili’s.  No crowds, relaxing, and good food.

Jan:
Karen: I’m not really an ice cream person (ducks and hides) but my hubby is – he loves the stuff.  If I were to get ice cream for myself, it would be chocolate.  The darker the better!

Lara: How often to you get lost in a story?
Sharon: I get frustrated because I don’t have as much time to read as I’d like—and this is a common complaint with authors, because there is never enough time! To me, an hour of uninterrupted reading time is an unheard-of luxury. I found a solution with audio books, because I can listen while I’m walking to work, doing housework, or anything else that doesn’t require that part of my brain. It’s an exciting area of publishing that has really taken off and showcases the skills of a lot of fabulous voice artists. As a result, I can keep up with reading and get through a book or more a week.

Lara: Is writing or story-telling easier for you?
Sharon: Writing. I ramble if I try to tell a story verbally.

Lara: What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?
Sharon: Do my best to put my life back in order. A lot of practical life stuff slides toward the deadline hour. So, it’s clean, pay bills, remind friends I’m still alive, and do laundry.

Lara: If you couldn’t be a writer anymore, what profession would you take up?
Sharon: I have a full-time job as a resource manager, which is basically geeking out over spreadsheets all day. It’s a good balance to a writing career, because artistic lives are brutal financially and emotionally. Although I still ride the highs and lows in both of my jobs, each helps me keep the other in perspective.

Lara: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
Sharon: The Tinder Box. It’s not as well-known as some, but it’s all about being true to your ideals and generous of spirit.

Lara: How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?
Sharon: I’m not going to answer that because no matter what I say my co-workers will make my life a living hell.

Lara: What inspires you daily?
Sharon: In terms of writing, I always have stories pressing at me to be told. I’m a story-telling junkie.

Lara: Which of your characters would you most/least like to invite to dinner, and why?
Sharon: That one is easy. My werewolf character, Faran Kenyon, because he’s a fabulous chef and he’ll do the cooking. He’s the joker of the bunch and is in all the books in the Four Horsemen series. His story, Possessed by a Wolf, is the third tale.

Lara: What one thing about your hero drives his heroine crazy? And what one thing about your heroine drives her hero nuts?
Sharon: I’ll pick one from each book.  In Possessed by a Warrior, Sam is very reserved and formal at first. Chloe spends a lot of time trying to crack his faƧade to find out what he’s really like. Of course he is doing his best to keep a lid on his feelings because he’s got enormous secrets (being a vampire is just the start) and confiding in her will unleash a whole bunch of problems.

In Possessed by an Immortal, Mark is a vampire, a superspy, an ex-assassin—basically one tough customer. And one of the very first things Bree does is pull his own gun on him. It’s just embarrassing. I think that’s why he eventually falls for her. She has the power to catch him off guard, and that’s saying something after all he’s been through.

Lara’s GOTTA ASK: What is your biggest vice?
Sharon’s GOTTA ANSWER:   Probably coffee. I drink way too much of it. Nothing fancy, just plain black java, preferably on a drip feed straight into the vein.

Where can you find Sharon?

What's next?

I have a novella, Valkyrie’s Conquest coming out July 1, 2014. There’s no cover yet, but here’s the description:
Can a fire-breathing shape-shifter melt a Norse battle maiden's heart?
As a Valkyrie, Tyra was created for one purpose: to reap souls for Odin's army. After centuries of walking among mortal warriors, she finally discovers what it is to want a man during a chance encounter with a dragon in human form.
Bron has no part in the war between the demons and the gods' chosen people—nor does he want one. Finally free from the oppressive rule of the dragon queen, he desires nothing more than his independence. But, when Tyra is betrayed, he finds he has no choice but to take a side in the struggle between good and evil.
Once he joins the battle, Bron is subject to the Fates, whom Tyra serves. Will she defy the will of the gods to spare the dragon she loves?

Then, the Four Horsemen series concludes with Possessed by a Wolf and Possessed by the Fallen (both in 2015)

"Good night, Kayla. Get some rest, you deserve it." Brent Kitchens, the owner of the most prestigious art gallery in Seattle, escorted Kayla to the side exit of the gallery where she'd parked her car earlier that day. "Thanks for the great turnout."

"The thanks goes to you, Brent." She smiled at Brent, twisting the shiny gold locket at the end of a fine chain that hung around her neck. "I'm headed for my apartment and bed. These things exhaust me." That and being three months pregnant, a secret she hadn't shared with anyone. She wasn't certain how the news would impact her exploding career as an artist, especially since she planned to raise the child on her own.

"Get some rest, sweetheart." Brent patted her back. "Want me to have security walk you out?"

"No, I'll be fine. Thanks again." Kayla kissed the man on the cheek and left the building. The click of the door closing behind her made her jump and hurry toward her car. Having arrived during the day, she hadn't realized how little lighting there was at the back of the gallery. The one light shining out over the cars barely reached hers, casting more shadows than light on her solid black SUV. Keys in hand, she hit the automatic door locks as she neared the rear of her vehicle. When she reached for the door handle, she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye.

Before she could react, a hand clamped over her mouth, stifling her scream and cutting off her air.

Kayla kicked and fought, her desire to live and protect her baby giving her sufficient motivation, but she was overpowered by her attacker's strength. She kicked out, her arms and legs flailing, her hands on her keys desperately fumbling for the little red panic button that she'd never before used.

The man slammed her into the side of the car.

Pain shot through her ribs, and she feared for the fetus growing inside her, but she couldn't escape the hold. Then she was flipped around, pinned to the car with the weight of his body, one hand covering her mouth, the other hand holding an arm. She faced a man with no face, his entire head covered in a ski mask, his eyes the only feature visible in the limited lighting. Light brownish eyes, almost gold, like those of a lion, if the lights weren't playing tricks on her fear-filled mind.

He laughed.

The low rumbling sound sent a ball of lead to the pit of Kayla's stomach. The man hadn't made a threat, hadn't said a word, but Kayla knew without a doubt that he'd kill her. With her free hand, she desperately pressed the buttons on the key chain, struggling to find the right one. The door locks clicked on and off, the lights blinking.

Her attacker's eyes narrowed and he grabbed for her hand and the keys she held.

Kayla finally found the panic button and she hit it just as a hand closed over the wad of keys.
The horn blared, over and over, the headlights and tail-lights blinking in unison, filled the parking lot with noise and light.

She couldn't see it, but she heard the creaking hinges of the back door to the gallery opening. If she wanted to live, she had to get help. Now!

Kayla bit down hard on the hand over her mouth.

The man cursed, his hand moving just enough that Kayla could let out a short, loud scream.
"What the hell?" Brent's voice called out. "What's going on out there? Hey, someone call 911!" he shouted. "Kayla? Kayla, is that you?"

In a flash, the man moved his grip to her throat, squeezing so hard, Kayla couldn't breathe.
She pried at his hands, her fingers tearing at his flesh, frantic to take a breath.

As his fingers tightened on her neck, he leaned close until his mask-covered mouth was close to her ear. "You win for now, but it isn't over." He yanked the chain from around her neck, then he let go so suddenly, Kayla slid down the side of the car. Unable to slow her fall, her head hit the pavement with a dull thud.

Dense fog clouded her vision even as precious air filled her starving lungs. Muffled voices, like people shouting into pillows, faded into silence. She could see the silhouette of her attacker sliding away into the shadows of an alley. Then the flashing stopped and night turned to pitch, the fog all-consuming. She couldn't let it claim her.

Kayla's eyes opened and she stared at the light shining on her table beside the bed. As quickly as the dreams came to her, they receded. The only impression she retained was one of terror and golden-brown eyes.

She jerked up out of the bed, her breathing labored as if she'd been smothered. Air, she had to get air. Kayla rushed for the window, pushing aside the drapes. She unlatched the lever and shoved the window open, sucking in air as fast as her lungs could take it.

Finally, her heart rate started to slow, and reason took hold once more. She reminded herself that she was far away from Seattle, safely tucked away in her vacation rental in Cape Churn.

Getting away had been her therapist's idea, but the small, seaside town she'd chosen as her destination had been a whim, the result of a real-estate brochure that had caught her eye. The images of untamed waves, peaceful beaches and quaint, quiet streets had called to her in a way she couldn't explain. It just looked like such a wholesome place to be. A good place to rediscover her inspiration again—missing ever since the attack. "A good place to have a child," she whispered.

She rubbed her hand in gentle circles over her belly. It was too soon to feel the baby yet, but she liked to imagine her kicking back in reply. Her baby—the only person she had left in the world. When she'd woken up in the hospital after the attack, the doctor had told her she was lucky she hadn't miscarried. If she wanted to keep the baby, she'd have to take better care of herself, get more rest and not worry so much. And stay away from dark places where bad guys hang out.

The doctor had also asked some pointed questions about her support network—family, friends, the baby's father—and hadn't seemed too pleased with the answers. Kayla didn't blame him. As much as she'd hated to admit, she didn't have a support network. Kayla didn't have siblings or parents to call and check up on her. Her best friend and the surrogate father of her baby had died three months ago in a car accident. The crash had occurred only two days following the artificial insemination of Tony's sperm.

For all the years she'd been on her own since the deaths of her parents, she'd longed for a family. She and Tony hadn't been in love, but they had cared for each other deeply, and they'd looked forward to making a family together, raising their child as partners in a home full of warmth and caring—a place where Kayla could finally feel as if she belonged.

"We'll still have that, Baby. I'm sorry you won't have a daddy, but you'll always have me, and we'll be okay."

Thoughts of her baby had gotten her through the loss of her best friend and the end of their plans to build a happy, companionable little family together. Remembering her baby had given her the strength to fight off her attacker in the parking lot long enough to signal for help. And it was with the goal of protecting her baby that she'd grimly pulled herself together in the aftermath of the attack and found a place where they could be safe.

Kayla peered out the window. Fog had crept in to cloak the coastline. If not for the gentle splash of waves against the cliffs and the strong scent of salt in the air, she wouldn't have known that she was at the coast. Her heartbeat settled into a smooth, steady rhythm, as the last vestiges of the nightmare slowly slipped away.

Sleep. That's what she and the baby needed. On this quiet edge of coastline, she wanted the peace of the place to wrap around them.

The therapist had taught her this trick of imagining a happy place before she went to bed. It would help settle her mind and avoid the nightmares that had woken her night after night. Now that she was at Cape Churn, it should be even easier. After all, her happy place was here with the ocean, the wind and waves. The nightmares would fade in time—she had to believe that. She'd get better, stronger. She'd heal in this quiet, peaceful place.

Leaving the window open just a little, she climbed back in bed and laid her head on the pillow.
As she lay there, her eyelids drooped and closed to the darkness, her mind settling into the edge of oblivion. Just as she drifted into sleep, a sharp scream ripped through the night.

 MORE ABOUT ELLE
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
ELLE: Every time I sit down to actually write (not piddle :-))

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
ELLE: I read so much as a child, and yet I have a crappy memory. I do remember reading the Little House on the Prairie books over and over. I loved living with Laura Ingles on the prairie.

ANGI: What’s your favorite “love” word?
ELLE: Adore
ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
ELLE: Recently I was "rescued" by a mountain rescue team after I tore my ACL snow-skiing. They were all handsome/beautiful and stuff I write my books about.

ANGI: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
ELLE: I'm really partial to Beauty and the Beast. I love that she could find the good in him and that he was so rough and unrefined, but deep down he just wanted to be loved as well.

ANGI: What turns you off like nothing else?
ELLE: Diesel fumes and excessive cursing. My characters might let a dirty word slip now and then, but then so do most people. But to drop the F-bomb every other sentence...nah.

ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
ELLE: Did I mention I have a crappy memory? Maybe something spooky like the music from Phantom of the Opera. It would go well with the fog and suspense of the Oregon coast murderer.

ANGI: Where do you read and how often?
ELLE: I read at the dinner table (I know, bad, but true) and on my Iphone Kindle app on the Elliptical, in bed, on trips, wherever. I love to escape...thus my logo...escape with Elle

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?
ELLE: The sound of laughter. I like to be around happiness.

ANGI: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
ELLE: I'm a big fan of Scooby-Doo. Love the mysteries and how they go about solving them-the basis for my Intrigues, huh?
ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
ELLE: Why not both? I love to twist a fairy tale and make it an action adventure.

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
ELLE: In 2nd grade, I wrote a story about a princess in a castle. See, there's that fairy tale.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
ELLE: I'm a big fan of musicals. I love MY FAIR LADY.

ANGI: Who’s your favorite villain?
ELLE: I love the phantom in Phantom of the Opera. Especially when played by Gerard Butler!
ANGI: That's definitely my kind of hero--I mean villian!

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
ELLE: Rocky Road Ice Cream!!! It rocks (pun intended)

ANGI: Is there a “Blooper” in your story (it may have been changed before printing)?
ELLE: Can't think of one. If you find one, let me know! I love it when I get emails from people telling me where I went wrong. I had a river flowing the wrong direction in one of my books. Eek!

ANGI: How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?
ELLE: What can I say? I LOVE my job! I write fantasy...it's great to escape.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: The Reserves, angry birds, Arkansas, Texas… You have such a variety of places and careers to draw from. What’s been your biggest influence when writing suspense?
ELLE’S GOTTA ANSWER: All of my family, adventures, all the places I've been (besides more than 3/4 of the contiguous U.S.: Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, London, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Guam), all the people I've met, the animals I've worked with and the military have influenced what I write and who I am. I couldn't choose just one big influence. I'm having a good life!
