GET LOST WITH ZOE ARCHER'S SINNER'S HEART!

GET LOST IN THIS STORY…

SINNER’S HEART

The Hellraisers, Book 3

Demons Of The Past

Abraham Stirling, Lord Rothwell, was a fighter once, a soldier in the Colonies. But Bram returned to London with more nightmares than tales of glory. Now he drowns his senses in the arms of countless women, while his friends, the Hellraisers, ensure he needn't sin alone.

Until, that is, the Devil himself grants them each a wish, undoing their camaraderie as they explore their wicked powers. Bram finds himself magically bound to Valeria Livia Corva, the sensuous priestess who raised the Devil the first time--and died to send the demon back.

She may be a ghost, but Livia is no angel. The raw passion she witnesses in Bram's memories isn't much different from her behavior when she had a body to enjoy. But it doesn't make it any easier to convince Bram to become a warrior again, lest all London burn. And the fierce desires reawakening within her might just start the blaze. . .

I am beyond THRILLED to welcome Zoë Archer back to the blog today to tell us about her latest release! I am also excited to see in her bio that she’s got a new series coming up later this year—gritty Victorian romance, yay!!! Let’s get right to learning more about Zoë!

Zoë Archer is an award-winning romance author who thinks there's nothing sexier than a man in tall boots and a waistcoat. As a child, she never dreamed about being the rescued princess, but wanted to kick butt right beside the hero. She now applies her master's degrees in Literature and Fiction to creating butt-kicking heroines and heroes in tall boots. She is the author of the acclaimed BLADES OF THE ROSE series and the paranormal historical romance series, THE HELLRAISERS. She and her husband, fellow romance author Nico Rosso, created the steampunk world of THE ETHER CHRONICLES together. Her new gritty Victorian romance series, NEMESIS, UNLIMITED, launches this year.  Zoë and Nico live in Los Angeles.

And now, the GET LOST interview…

HEATHER: What’s your favorite movie of all time?

ZOË: Funny enough, my favorite movies are all adaptations of books: A Room With a View, Persuasion among them. Although I don’t think there was ever a book of Big Trouble In Little China.

HEATHER: How often to you get lost in a story?

ZOË: As often as I can, which isn’t often enough. There are only so many hours in a day, so it’s a struggle to get everything done and still have time to read.

HEATHER: What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in?

ZOË: I mostly read historical romance, though I try to seek out unusual settings and time periods, and if an author has a particularly strong and unique voice, that always draws me in.

HEATHER: What sound or noise do you love?

ZOË: Wind rustling the leaves of trees.

HEATHER: Who’s your favorite villain?

ZOË: On Star Trek: The Next Generation, there was this multi-dimensional being called Q. At first, he wasn’t much fun, but as the seasons progressed, he became this wonderful force of anarchy and irreverence.

HEATHER: Is writing or story-telling easier for you?

ZOË: Writing.  Story-telling involves a level of spontaneity that I don’t really have.  I’m a total plotter, not a pantser.

HEATHER: What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?

ZOË: I really, really appreciate them.  Writing is a strange job: you do it in total isolation, and never truly know if anyone out there is reading your work.  It’s not like being a musician where you can take the stage and perform, then (hopefully) hear the audience applaud.  And if no one reads your work, not only is it bad from a business perspective, it also means that the other critical part of writing—being read—isn’t happening.  It’s kind of like a tree falling in a forest.  If you write a book and no one reads it, does it make a sound?

HEATHER: If you couldn’t be a writer anymore, what profession would you take up?

ZOË: Maybe being a baker, though I’m still considering working at one of those sloth orphanages. Have you seen how cute they are? Though I promise I won’t cry like Kristen Bell.

HEATHER: Which of your characters would you most/least to invite to dinner, and why?

ZOË: I don’t think I’d want Mr. Holiday (aka the Devil from the Hellraisers series) over for dinner. I’d be afraid he’s try to tempt me with a magical power, the way he does with the Hellraisers.

HEATHER: What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?

ZOË: The fact that I write books and people I’m not related to buy and read them is pretty amazing to me, considering I got my start writing stories in those old black and white composition books.

HEATHER: What soundtrack or playlist do you recommend for your current release?

ZOË: I actually think the soundtrack to the ‘80s movie The Lost Boys is a pretty good match with the Hellraisers series.

HEATHER: Have you ever written a character who wasn’t meant to be a hero/heroine but he/she wouldn’t go away?

ZOË: I think both Bram and Livia from Sinner’s Heart start out as pretty dark characters that seem irredeemable.  But I always knew that they’d get their own book, even though it would be challenging to write.

HEATHER: Tell me how many hats you have in your home?

ZOË: I don’t know about hats, but I know I have a ridiculous amount of boots. Over 20 pairs. It’s a sickness.

HEATHER’S GOTTA ASK – ZOË’S GOTTA ANSWER  J

HEATHER: How on earth did you come up with the idea of a romance between a fallen rake and an actual ghost?

ZOË: Ever since the beginning of the Hellraisers series, I wanted both Bram and Livia to get their own stories.  I was so intrigued by the idea that the heroine wouldn’t have a corporeal body—that would make the physical part of a relationship seemingly impossible.  But then I realized that by making Livia a ghost—unable to touch or be touched by anyone—it actually helped in shaping the developing romance.  Because Bram, the consummate sensualist, couldn’t relate to her on a physical level, the way he does with other women, he’d be forced to get to know her as a person, not a possible conquest.  Also, Bram and Livia share a magical bond, which allows them access to each other’s thoughts and memories.  All of that helps make the romance that much stronger between Bram and Livia.  It’s not just lust.  It’s a deep emotional connection that goes beyond the flesh.

GOT A QUESTION YOU’D LIKE TO ASK YOUR FANS?

ZOË: I can’t stop buying boots.  What article of clothing are you addicted to buying?  Or, if you’re not a clotheshorse, is there something else that you just can’t stop yourself from purchasing?

WILL YOU HAVE A DRAWING FROM THOSE LEAVING COMMENTS?

Get Lost with Bond Girl Gemma Halliday

Her name is Bond. Jamie Bond. And she is licensed to kill any pre-nup you can throw at her.

Catching cheating husbands became Jamie Bond's life when her father was shot and wounded on the job, forcing Jamie to take over the family business: The Bond Agency. But three years later, the P.I. is shocked when the gun that wounded her father surfaces during a high-profile murder trial. Is this the connection Jamie's been waiting for to finally nail her father's shooter? But, oddly enough, Derek doesn't seem interested. In fact, if Jamie didn't know better she'd say he's even trying to stop her from looking into it. Along with her team of bombshell investigators, Jamie suddenly finds herself in the middle of a cold case that's heating up the media, dodging old grudges and new enemies, while questioning the motives of those closest to her. If she can live with the truth, the secrets Jamie uncovers may bring down more than a marriage this time.

 Meet Halliday, Gemma Halliday
 New York Times Bestselling Author

Gemma had a hard time figuring out what she wanted to be when she grew up. She worked as a film and television actress, a teddy bear importer, a department store administrator, a preschool teacher, a temporary tattoo artist, and a 900 number psychic, before finally selling her first book and deciding to be a writer.

Since then, Gemma has written several mystery novels and been the recipient of numerous awards, including a National Reader's Choice award and three RITA nominations. Her books have hit both the USA Today and the New York Times Bestseller lists.

Gemma now makes her home in the San Francisco Bay area where she is hard at work on her next book.

CLOVER: You’ve had an interesting string of jobs. Are you able to bring in any of these far different experiences into your writing?
GEMMA: Absolutely!  I draw on all of those odd jobs when creating characters.  I have a psychic character, Mrs. Rosenblatt, in my High Heels books who is patterned after some people I met while working at the Psychic Friends Network, and the main character in that series, Maddie has a job designing children’s shoes which I stole from a woman I used to paint tattoos with.  While writing the Jamie Bond books, one thing I didn’t have was first-hand knowledge about P.I. work, but luckily a good friend of mine, J.R. Rain, was a working P.I. at the time, so he filled in my blanks.

CLOVER: There’s a lot of humor in your books. Are you funny in real life or does that only come out on the page?
GEMMA: I was raised with a lot of humor in our home, so I think some of what comes out on the page is just what life with my family is like.   But I will say that the first thing my grandfather said when he read my first book was, “I had no idea you were so funny.”  So I guess more comes out on the page than it does in person.

CLOVER: On that note, what’s your favorite kid joke?
GEMMA: Why did the calf cross the road?  To get to the udder side.

CLOVER’S GOTTA ASK:  What is something that not a lot of people know about you but you WISH more people COULD know?
GEMMA’S GOTTA ANSWER:  I wrote my first series of books when I was eleven.  It followed the life of a character I traced from coloring book through her childhood and into her adult years where she met and fell in love with Popeye.  (He was the only male coloring book character I could find to trace.)

In the meantime, enjoy an excerpt from Secret Bond

   “Roll up your window.”
   “It’s 100 degrees outside.”
“They're tinted.  Less chance of someone seeing you.”
I shot Derek a dirty look but complied, rolling the window up.  Then I took off my jacket in an attempt to feel less like a roast pig as I shifted in my seat, peeling my thighs off the hot vinyl.
“That’s better.”  Derek leaned back and put a pair of binoculars back up to his eyes, training them on the pink, stucco covered motel across the street again.
“I don’t think he’s coming,” I said, fanning myself with an AARP brochure  I'd found stuck between the seats of Derek’s Bonneville.
“Oh, he’s coming.  You just gotta be patient, kid.”
Patience was something I was woefully short on today.  Usually I did stake-outs on my own.  Or with one of my associates from the Bond Agency.  But today Derek had insisted on riding along.  I’d like to think it was just boredom and the restless heat wave that had recently hit Los Angeles and not that he didn’t trust me to do the job right.
I'd like to think that, but I didn't really.
Derek Bond was a licensed P.I., sixty-three years old - though his libido was perpetually stuck at sixteen - and feared by cheating husbands everywhere.  Not because Derek was apt to sleep with their distraught wives, though I couldn't promise that hadn't happened on occasion, but because no matter who they were, how careful they were, or how slick they thought they were being, Derek would always catch them in the act - pants around the ankles, prostitute half naked, pre-nup busted to pieces.  The Bond Agency had been synonymous with a quick and easy divorce for woman all over L.A. for years.
That is until one of those cheating husbands had been upset enough to shoot Derek while on a stakeout at a seedy motel in a North Hollywood neighborhood not a whole lot unlike the one we were in now.
After the shooting, Derek had been forced into early retirement, prescribed to take it easy on his weakened heart.  That's when he’d reluctantly handed the reins of the Bond Agency over to his only child.
Me, Jamie Bond.  Or as my father, ever hopeful that I’d come out a bouncing baby boy and a chip off the old block, had legally named me: James Bond.  I'd spent the last twenty-nine years of my life trying to forgive him for that.
I'd honestly never wanted to be a P.I. myself.  I'd grown up doing my homework in the back of this very same Bonneville on stake-outs very much like this one, which had given me more than enough of a taste of the domestic espionage game.  Me - I'd dreamed of being a runway model.  Which, at age fifteen, is exactly what I'd done, spending my late-teens and early-twenties strutting down the catwalks of Milan, Paris, and New York.  A far cry from the faded sweatbox I was now seated in.  But the truth was that when Derek got shot, my world changed forever.  Suddenly, he needed me in a way I never thought possible.  Besides, I wasn’t getting any younger at the time (at twenty-six I'd been a dinosaur in model years), and I did know the P.I. business inside and out.  So, I’d taken over the reins and been the "Bond" in the agency ever since.
Not that it kept Derek from still sticking his nose into every aspect of it.
“How old did you say this guy was?” Derek asked from behind his binoculars.
   “Forty-seven,” I answered.
   “And the chick he’s banging?”
I winced at his less than PC choice of words.  “The woman he’s been seeing is twenty-one.  But,” I added, “I don’t think they’re showing today.  It’s too hot for adultery.”
Derek shook his head.  “Trust me.  He’s showing.  A young piece of tail like that…”
Thankfully he trailed off and I didn’t have to hear his thoughts on twenty-something “tail.”
“I’ve got about ten more minutes in me,” I warned him, feeling sweat tickle down my back, soaking the pink tank I’d thrown on this morning.  “Then I’m gonna start melting from the inside out.”
   Derek grunted in response.
   “I’m serious, old man.”
He ignored me.  “How much is his wife paying you?” he asked instead, reaching into the center console and popping a piece of gum into his mouth.  Watermelon flavored, if the scent hitting my nostrils was any indication.
   “The usual.”
   “Which is?”
   “None of your business.”
Derek pulled the binoculars away from his eyes just long enough shoot me a dirty look.  “You’re a tough one, Bond.”  Then he blew a big pink bubble my way.
I resisted the urge to pop it.  Mostly because I didn’t want to ruin my manicure.
“If you must know, I gave her a discount.”
   “How much?”
“On contingency,” I muttered under my breath,.
“Jesus, James.  A charity case?  Really?”  He didn't look amused.
“Look, she was desperate.  He’s got all their money tied up.  The only way she could afford to pay us was if we can bust her pre-nup.”
Derek shook his head at me.  “I thought I trained you better than that, kid.  Payment up front.”
“We’re fine.  She’ll pay.  As soon as we catch the bastard.”
“Speaking of whom…” Derek grinned, pointing out his smudged windshield.
Across the street, a BMW pulled up to the motel’s parking lot.  A guy with salt-and-pepper hair wearing a pressed pair of slacks got out, walked around to the passenger side, then opened the door for a brunette in Daisy-dukes who looked young enough to be his daughter.
“What did I tell you?” Derek asked, turning to me with a satisfied grin.
I shook my head.  “I hate it when you're right.”   I grabbed my camera and popped off a couple of shots of the happy couple entering a room on the ground floor.
“Yeah, but you love catching your mark,” Derek said.
Dammit, the old man was right again.

Slay Demons with Angie Fox

Demon slaying powers should come with an instruction book ... Seriously. Why does a new hair dryer have a twelve-page how-to manual but when it comes to ancient demon-fighting hocus-pocus my biker witch granny gives me just half a dozen switch stars and a rah-rah speech? Oh and a talking terrier but that's another story. It's not like my job as a preschool teacher prepared me for this kind of thing.

So I've decided to write my own manual The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers because no one tells me anything. Dimitri my "protector" may be one stud of a shape-shifting griffin but he always thinks he can handle everything by himself. Only he's no match for the soul-stealing succubi taking over Las Vegas. If I can't figure out how to save him - and Sin City - there'll be hell to pay.

Angie Fox is the New York Times bestselling author of several books about vampires, werewolves and things that go bump in the night. She is best known for her Accidental Demon Slayer urban fantasy series. She is also writing a series about a group of paranormal M*A*S*H surgeons.

Angie claims that researching her stories can be just as much fun as writing them. In the name of fact-finding, Angie has ridden with Harley biker gangs, explored the tunnels underneath Hoover Dam and found an interesting recipe for Mamma Coalpot’s Southern Skunk Surprise (she’s still trying to get her courage up to try it).

CLOVER: How often do you get lost in a story?
ANGIE: Every chance I get. I’m a huge reader and I love to write as well. For me, urban fantasy is the best because, to me, they are the adult versions of fairy tales. And who doesn’t like to escape with a great fairy tale?

CLOVER:  In The Accidental Demon Slayer, Lizzie is supposed to be trained by her grandma’s gang of biker witches. At your website we can get our own biker witch names. (Mine’s Mantrap Marcie Hard Rider!)  I love it! How did you come up with those names?
ANGIE: The biker witches inspired those names. They are just so much fun to write. Basically, the Red Skulls began as a mild-mannered coven of witches. Only, they were so powerful that a demon set its sights on them. They couldn’t defeat him, so they went on the run. After a few years on the road, the witches went biker and never went back.
So I have these 70-something-year-old witches with names like Linda the Lush and Hog Wild Harriet and I started thinking that I wanted a biker witch name. So one day, when I was lifting free weights at the gym, I started writing down all these crazy names. Of course, murphy’s law, I left my list by the free weights, so I had to go back in ask all these muscle head guys if they’d seen my biker witch name list (one of them had tossed it into the trash – can you imagine?). Actually, it was quite “biker witch” to be digging it out of the trash, I thought. And then I had an old advertising buddy put together the actual quiz for me.

It went viral, which has been a blast. You haven’t lived until you get emails from physicists in China telling you that their biker witch names are things like Wino Wally No Brakes and Two Date Tessa Hard Rider. And now for a shameless plug: you can get your biker witch name at: www.angiefox.com.

CLOVER: What will always make you smile, even on a bad day?
ANGIE: My dog, Moxie. I like to talk with her as I write. And she listens – better than my children on some days.

CLOVER: Who’s your favorite villain?
ANGIE: You can’t beat Darth Vader. I mean how many other villains do you have kids dressing up as on Halloween?

CLOVER’S GOTTA ASK:   Which of your characters would you most/least like to invite to dinner, and why?
ANGIE’S GOTTA ANSWER:
Most like to invite: The biker witches because I never know what they’re going to do next. Plus, with them, I could ditch the silverware and just have a pig roast/kegger out on the front lawn. They’d liven it up with a few Mind Wiper spells, maybe even hit the cute bartender with a Lose Your Keys spell so he’d have to stick around afterward. It’d be a blast.

Least like to invite: The biker witches because they’d invite the entire neighborhood, let Pirate the dog hit the buffet and pick all of the bacon out of the salad, and toss Love spells at the hot bartender, just to get my goat.

DIARY OF A TEENAGE FAIRY GODMOTHER
Ink Lion Books
ASIN: B00C62G8K6

Fairy Godmother is not some pixie in a pink tutu. She’s a guardian and a warrior. Lilliana Skye is sent undercover to a Texas high school to save one of Cinderella’s troubled descendants, but everything goes wrong.

Jess Harrison hates Lilliana. She doesn’t believe in magic or happily-ever-afters. Jess is tough, angry, and so intelligent it’s scary. If she ever did see a mythical fairy she would probably stomp it into oblivion with her army boots. Matters go from bad to worse when Jess’s older brother meets Lilliana and falls hard for the new girl. And Lilliana can’t keep her wayward heart in check. Jake is, well, he’s just plain dangerous.

Falling in love with a human is forbidden, not to mention… deadly.

Kathleen loves adventure. FROM THE MIND OF THE AUTHOR

ANGI: How often do you get lost in a story?
KATHLEEN:  Daily, I’m addicted to story. My handle on Amazon is “Storiologist.” I always have a book handy.

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
KATHLEEN:Pippi Longstockings, and I became permanently addicted after reading Heidi.

ANGI: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
KATHLEEN: I’m a huge anime fan, but as far as traditional cartoons… I like Tweety Bird. It’s fun to see Tweety’s innocence triumphing over Sylvester’s schemes.

ANGI: What’s your favorite “love” word?
KATHLEEN: Love word(s). “I’m listening” or ‘I understand.” Because it means mountains to me if a man cares enough to listen and even more if he strives to understand.

ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
KATHLEEN: Not a playlist, but there is a cool music video that inspired me often when I was writing. It has the characters from final fantasy set to Far Away by Nickleback.

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
KATHLEEN: I met this guy Tom Pippit who had almost no legs and only little stubs for arms. When he was a kid he had to scoot around school on a wagon. But he didn’t let that keep him from going to college, getting a job. He even fell in love and got married. Tom worked with my husband, and buoyed up the spirits of everyone he met. It was an honor to call him a friend.

ANGI: What do you like about the hero of your book?
KATHLEEN: Jake tries to protect Lilliana, the Fairy Godmother, from his sister’s schemes and from the dangers they all face. I love his courage and willingness to face death for her. But what I like even more is the deep bond that forms between him and Lilliana despite the fact that it may cost them everything.

ANGI: Where do you read and how often?
KATHLEEN: WARNING: having a lighted Kindle can be hazardous to sleep. If I haven’t found a chance to read during the day I sneak and read in bed late at night.

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?
KATHLEEN: Train whistle far off in the distance. Something about that sound twangs my heart strings.

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
KATHLEEN: I like both! So, how about an Action Adventure Fairytale? That’s the kind of story Diary Of A Teenage Fairy Godmother is.

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
KATHLEEN: I still have copies of most of my early work. Many short stories, but I started my first novel in the fifth grade. It was a historical about an orphaned French girl coming to America called, (ahem… no laughing) In A Field of Daisies. (Okay, you can go ahead and laugh. It was pretty cheesy.) Clearly, I liked romance even back then.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: Tell us all about this picture. Purty Pleaz?
KATHLEEN'S GOTTA ANSWER:  Well, (chuckling) attractive hat, eh? I used to be rock climber. Loved it! Every free afternoon you’d find me on a rock face. I even taught climbing and volunteered on a mountain rescue team. But this photo was taken about two miles underground, deep inside an extinct geyser near Lake Bonneville. A couple of guys talked me into coming with them to help map this ‘cave.’

Trouble is; while I loved being out on a ledge dangling over a 500 foot drop didn’t bother me in the least, it turns out I have claustrophobia. Who knew? I didn’t like being in tight dark squishy places at all. So, when one of the guys took this photo I was ready to climb the walls. Literally. If I remember right, they let me lead the climb out.
