Crazy Thing Called Love

WELCOME MOLLY O’KEEFE

Today I'm excited to host my BFF and indispensable critique partner, the amazingly talented and award winning: Molly O'Keefe. :-)

Molly O’Keefe published her first Harlequin romance at age twenty-five and hasn’t looked back. She loves exploring each character’s road toward happily ever after. She’s won two Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice awards and the RITA for Best Novella in 2010.
Originally from a small town outside of Chicago, she now lives in Toronto, Canada, with her husband, two kids, and the largest heap of dirty laundry in North America.

CRAZY THING CALLED LOVE

In this poignant and deeply sensual new contemporary romance—perfect for readers of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson—Molly O’Keefe proves that lost loves don’t have to stay lost forever.

Dallas TV morning show host Madelyn Cornish is poised, perfect, and unflappable, from her glossy smile to her sleek professionalism. No one knows that her iron will guards a shattered heart and memories of a man she’s determined to lock out. Until that man shows up at a morning meeting like a bad dream: Billy Wilkins, sexy hockey superstar in a tailspin—still skating, still fighting, and still her ex-husband.

Now the producers want this poster child for bad behavior to undergo an on-air makeover, and Billy, who has nothing to lose, agrees to the project. It’s his only chance to get near Maddy again, and to fight for the right things this time around. He believes in the fire in Maddy’s whiskey eyes and the passion that ignites the air between them. This bad-boy heartbreaker wants a last shot to be redeemed by the only thing that matters: Maddy’s love.

GET TO KNOW MOLLY O’KEEFE

MAUREEN: What really scares you?
MOLLY: Everything. Forgetting my kid at a store. Toronto drivers. Ice storms. But really, heights. I am really scared of heights.

MAUREEN: Who was your favorite teacher in grade school? Why?
MOLLY: I had a great string of grade school teachers. But Mrs. Jordal in fifth grade really stands out. She seemed to understand how awful math was for me, and how much I loved reading and writing and while encouraging me to be better in math, she didn't make me feel bad. I have a lot of bad feelings associated with math. I think in a previous life, math assaulted me.

MAUREEN: LOL. Do you believe in ghosts?
MOLLY: I totally believe in ghosts. Once in Florida at twilight after a great run on the beach, I thought I saw my Grandpa Allen, just standing in the shadows under a tree. And he was so clear, so totally there - that I burst into tears. Might have just been emotions from the run, but I like to believe he was there.

MAUREEN: Where in the world would you most like to visit?
MOLLY:  Well, our next big family vacation is out west to Banff and the Dinosaur park out there - where they found many of the fossils in North America. I'm very excited.

MAUREEN: What’s next for you as an author?
MOLLY: Oh, well, after Crazy Thing Called Love, I'm starting a new series. Wild Child comes out in October.

MAUREEN: Do shapeshifters exist?
MOLLY: No. Only ghosts and vampires - everyone knows that.

MAUREEN: :-) What’s your favorite cartoon character?
MOLLY: Right now my kids are on a Pink Panther run and Anteater and Ant are pretty funny.

MAUREEN: What hidden talents do you have?
MOLLY: I am really good at guessing the guest voices on The Simpsons. I can't figure out how to make any money at it.

MAUREEN: Oh, I can guess voices too! But more on commercials and animated movies. We need to figure out how to turn that talent into cash!
What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?
MOLLY: Letters from readers are the most validating, exciting thing EVER. Even if it's a letter to say how much they hated the book. That someone was moved to take the time to write - it's amazing. Thank you to everyone who has ever written me a note.

MAUREEN: If you couldn’t be a writer anymore, what profession would you take up?
MOLLY: Social work or teacher.

MAUREEN: What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?
MOLLY: Maureen and I used to go out for a drink, but we seemed to have stopped, or slowed down - which is a CRIME!!

MAUREEN: Yes, a serious crime!!! Call the drinks police! Lock us up in a bar until we learn our lesson!
Vampires or werewolves?
MOLLY: Vampires - I love Vampire books and TV shows, UNTIL the werewolf shows up.

MAUREEN: Did you belong to a clique in high school? Which one of the standard high school stereotypes did you best fit in to?
MOLLY: Our high school was a really standard midwest small town high school, so there were tons of cliques. And I was very firmly a drama/speech team kid (I would say nerd, but it hurts) however my dear friend was one of those girls who was friends with everyone. A cheerleader who dated a stoner, best friends with a theater nerd. She kept me cool. Or as cool as she could. It's funny to think about those years.

GOTTA ASK -- GOTTA ANSWER

MAUREEN: Your heroes in your fabulous Crooked Creek Series are professional hockey players. Can you skate? Have you ever played hockey yourself?
MOLLY: HA! I actually just learned to skate. I'm pretty terrible. But my husband plays hockey. And I do like watching hockey. I love how the hockey guys are so real in interviews, these boys from small towns in Canada and Russia who are suddenly thrust into the spotlight for a sound bite. I love the guys that do it well, and the guys who are AWFUL at it.

A QUESTION FOR READERS

MOLLY ASKS: Who is your favorite hockey player?

Can't Hurry Love

WELCOME BACK MOLLY O'KEEFE

Molly O'Keefe is a RITA-Award winning author with 20 Harlequin novels in publication. She's won the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice award for Best Flipside in 2005 and Best Superromance in 2008.

Her first Bantam Contemporary Romances, Can't Buy Me Love was released in June 2012 and its follow up Can't Hurry Love in July 2012. She lives in Toronto, Canada with her family and the largest heap of dirty laundry in North America.

CAN'T HURRY LOVE

Victoria Baker, the penniless widow of a disgraced financier, is ready to stand up, be counted, and make a new life for herself and her beloved son in Texas. She’s taking over Crooked Creek ranch, her birthright, and turning it into something special. All that stands in her way is Eli Turnbull, a rugged, too-handsome cowboy who wants the land just as badly.

If Victoria wants a fight, Eli will give her one. He’s devoted his life to Crooked Creek, and he’s not about to let some pampered city girl—even one as brave and beautiful as Victoria—turn it into some silly spa. But Victoria’s and Eli’s burning anger and frustration only fuel heat of another kind: uncontrollable passion. And soon they each realize that the person standing in their way is the one they can never do without.

GET TO KNOW MOLLY O'KEEFE

MAUREEN: Where in the world would you most like to visit?
MOLLY: Right now, we’re thinking about going to England in four years for the World Cup Rugby. We had such a great time in a camper in New Zealand and it would be so amazing to tour around Great Britain in the same way.

MAUREEN: What’s next for you as an author?
MOLLY: I’m starting a new series! It’s southern, it’s funny, it’s sexy – a  settled man trying to get wild and a wild woman trying to settle down. I don’t have any titles yet – but catch up with me on Facebook and I’ll let you know as soon as I do. In the meantime, the third book in the Crooked Creek series, CRAZY THING CALLED LOVE, will come out early in 2013.

MAUREEN: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
MOLLY: Oh, I love Beauty in the Beast. That push pull – the hero and villain all in one. What’s not to love in that?

MAUREEN: What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on?
MOLLY:  I had some great ones as a kid – my parents always took us backpacking in Montana and Wyoming. I have fabulous memories of those trips. But this last epic adventure with my own kids in New Zealand – so amazing.

MAUREEN: Would you rather sky dive or scuba dive?
MOLLY:  Scuba – oh my god – I do not understand sky diving. My husband loves it – I can barely get in a plane, much less jump out of it.

MAUREEN: Do you write while listening to music? If so what kind?
MOLLY:  I do every once in a while. While I’m editing I usually do and I love Florence and The Machine and Adele.

MAUREEN: If you could interview one person (and it doesn’t have to be a writer) who would it be?
MOLLY:  Bruce Springsteen. I had this dream a few nights ago that I saw Springsteen at a Medieval Times and I was trying to get my picture taken with him and I just wanted to ask him about his work out routine and my camera broke, my husband’s camera broke and then my brother’s camera broke. Had to be a stress dream.  But yes, I have so much I would ask him, about what drives him on stage, what compels him while writing, and I’d like to hear him talk about his relationship with his band.

MAUREEN: Strawberry daiquiri or a beer?
MOLLY: Oh my gosh – Daiquiri? I can’t remember the last time I had a daiquiri. I adore beer. I think I’d be 20 pounds lighter if I didn’t love beer so much. But alas, my love will not be denied.

MAUREEN: Do you remember your grade one teacher’s name?
MOLLY: Yes, Ms. Navotny. Prettiest woman in the world, long brown hair, she had a horse charm on her necklace. She was amazing. Sweet and calm.

MAUREEN: Who was your first best friend? Are you still in touch?
MOLLY:  Allycia Marie and it is a great delight in my life that she is still my best friend.

MAUREEN: What soundtrack or playlist do you recommend for your current release?
MOLLY:  Florence and The Machine – Shake it off. A lot of stuff in that song about forgiveness and holding onto the past – love it.

MAUREEN: What would you say is your most interesting quirk?
MOLLY: I NEVER close cupboard doors. Makes my husband seriously crazy.

MAUREEN: What’s your idea of a perfect Sunday afternoon?
MOLLY:  Oh, wake up. A little reading. Husband makes eggs. I go for a run. The family goes to the farmer’s market up the street. I get a chance to do some writing. We have a great dinner from the farmer’s market. Husband puts the kids to bed so I can do a little more writing.

GOTTA ASK -- GOTTA ANSWER  ☺

MAUREEN: What was/were the first romance novel(s) you fell in love with?
MOLLY: Oh I loved Elizabeth Lowell categories and  Judith McNaught historicals.

 BOOK TRAILER

GET TO KNOW MOLLY O'KEEFE

MAUREEN: What's your favorite kind of book to get lost in?
MOLLY:  I'm 37 years old and I've read a lot and I read a lot and the honest to god real answer to that question is romance.  I read everything, but the only books I really really get lost in, are romances. And usually historical ones. This bright new world of YA has had some pretty amazing reads in it, but to get truly lost?  I need some romance.
MAUREEN: What's the first book you remember reading?
MOLLY:  The first book I remember having read to me is The Little Match Girl. I had this big red book of children's stories (how The Little Match Girl is considered a children's story I'll never know) and I loved The Little Match Girl because it had this illustration of a little girl peering inside this beautiful house at  a beautiful family eating a beautiful meal. And according to the story my mom read me, they invited the little girl in and they all lived happily ever after. It wasn't until I was older and read the book myself that I realized my mother had made that up so I wouldn't wail myself to sleep.
MAUREEN: What's your favorite love word?
MOLLY:  Adore. Adore says it all to me in so many ways. It can be platonic. It can be about brownies. It can be about children. My husband. It just conjures up such intimacy for me. Such affection. And it's french, which is always classy.
MAUREEN: What's your favorite hobby?
MOLLY:  I would kill for a hobby. I used to love cooking, but then I had a family and it got ruined by picky eaters and dinner time battles. I've never knit, or been a photographer. Does laundry count? Drinking? If drinking counts, I choose drinking. With Maureen.
MAUREEN: Do you believe in alien abductions?
MOLLY:  No. I don't, really. I think  if aliens were casing our planet, they wouldn't take so many insane people. Even if that's their plan for staying under the radar, how much are they learning from the lunatic fringe? And if they aren't casing the planet and they just happen to keep picking up the conspiracy theorists - well, that's just bad aim.
MAUREEN: Salsa or guacamole?
MOLLY:  Guacamole, all the time, any time.

GOTTA ASK GOTTA ANSWER:
MAUREEN: What was your favorite book when you were 12?
MOLLY:  I loved the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and the Emily of New Moon books, but I think I was younger. Oh! All My Patients Live Under The Bed - a non-fiction book about a cat vet. I LOVED that book - if you have any young cat lovers in your life - that's the book for them.

MOLLY ASKS READERS:

TODAY'S QUESTION: When you were twelve, what was your favorite book?

2/14/2011

Molly O'Keefe

Happy Valentine's Day!!

What a great day to GET LOST IN A CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE!

Today, I'm thrilled to be hosting RITA ® Award winning contemporary romance author, Molly O'Keefe, who just happens to be, not only one of my valued critique partners, but also one of my closest friends. In addition to her RITA® win, she's also won two RT Reviewers' Choice Awards as well as numerous other accolades. She's has 18 novels published by Harlequin and two fabulous longer romances coming out from Bantam Dell in 2012.

ABOUT MOLLY

Molly O'Keefe has always known she wanted to be a writer (except when she wanted to be a florist or a chef and the brief period of time when she considered being a cowgirl). And once she got her hands on some romances, she knew exactly what she wanted to write.

She published her first Harlequin romance at age 25 and hasn't looked back. She loves exploring every character's road towards happily ever after.

Originally from a small town outside of Chicago, she went to university in St. Louis where she met and fell in love with the editor of her school newspaper. They followed each other around the world for several years and finally got married and settled down in Toronto, Ontario. They welcomed their son into their family in 2006, and their daughter in 2008. When she's not at the park or cleaning up the toy room, Molly is working hard on her next novel, trying to exercise, stalking Tina Fey on the internet and dreaming of the day she can finish a cup of coffee without interruption.

His Wife For One Night

February 2011
ISBN 9780373716883
Jack McKibbon knows the score when he offers to marry his best friend Mia Alatore. He's fixing a bad situation for her—that's all—they aren't making a real life together. She wants to stay on the ranch and he's got his studies and inventions elsewhere. Still, this arrangement is a good deal for both of them.
Until that one night…
A sexy interlude with Mia makes Jack rethink their relationship…and their future. But all his plans grind to a halt when she asks for a divorce. Once upon a time, Jack might have agreed. But now that he knows the chemistry they share, he's not giving up a second chance to be with his wife.

And now, let's get to know Molly!

Maureen: What’s your favorite holiday?
Molly: I practically grew up in a Norman Rockwell painting - I come from a small town, had a great childhood, two loving parents. And a fantastic extended family. All those things seem most special as I get older on Thanksgiving. I get to go home, take my kids, see friends from High School. My cousins arrive, most of them from far-flung African places, we play bloody games of spoons and my cousin makes a Hello Dolly Pie, and I eat until I can't stand myself - which is a surprising amount. It is without a doubt the best holiday ever.

Maureen: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
Molly: Oh, man. My two favorites are Good Will Hunting and Field of Dreams - which makes me sound sort of like I'm a seventy year old man. But, there you have it. I also have a huge soft spot for sports movies and now that I have kids - those Pixar movies are pretty hard to beat. Also, for pure nostalgia and belly laugh pain - A Weekend At Bernie's. When they staple the toupee on? Kills me.

Maureen: Where do you most like to read and how often?
Molly: In my bed and as often as I can.

Maureen: What’s the first book you remember reading?
Molly: The Laura Ingalls Wilder books - Little House on The Prairie. I ADORED those books. However, I remember my mom reading The Little Match Girl story to me when I was a kid - it wasn't until I was in college that I learned the little girl died. My mother changed the ending so that the family the little girl was watching through the window let her in. I feel this is somehow formative but I'm not sure why.

Maureen: What sound or noise do you love?
Molly: Not to sound totally clichƩ, but when my kid's really start to laugh and can't stop - it's pretty infectious. I also love when my mom answers the phone saying "hi sweetie" Oh! And the ice cream truck on super hot days... mmmm ice cream truck.

Maureen: What’s your favorite kind of cheese?
Molly: One of my favorite things in the world is cheddar cheese, apple and a good salty cracker. But I also love this aged Gouda - Beemster? Something like that, anyway it's got salt crystals in it. So good.

Maureen: What was the first story you remember writing?
Molly: Oh a ridiculous Nancy Drew knock off. But not the old Nancy Drew - the newer Nancy Drew Files which was filled with page long descriptions of what Ned and Nancy were wearing. My mother listened to me read every chapter of that book.

Maureen: What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?
Molly: That every single email I get from reader is like receiving a letter of validation. Those notes are gold and I couldn't appreciate them more.

Maureen: Is Elvis really dead?
Molly: YES! And did you hear, most of the pain he suffered from was from impacted bowels. Could you imagine?

Maureen: What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?
Molly: Let Maureen buy me a drink.

Maureen: Which I am ALWAYS glad to do. :) If you were given a chance to travel to the past where would you go and why?
Molly: I would go out West before the Civil War - homesteading. I can come back though, right? I visit for a few weeks and then come home to a shower and some cable television?

Maureen: Sure, you can come back. :) What would I do without you? What do you like on your burger? (and do you take your burger veggie or beefy?)
Molly: One of the best burgers in the world is at The Auld Spot on the Danforth in Toronto. They make their own veggie burger, but then you add cheese and bacon...

Maureen: How convenient that it's only 2 blocks from my house. :) Which of your characters would you most/least to invite to dinner, and why?
Molly: Oh, what a fun question - for His Wife For One Night - the hero is based loosely on my cousin who is a Hydro engineer and spent a year in the Peace Corp in Uganda. He, and Jack the character he is based on, tell incredible stories. Absolutely I would want them for dinner. Mia - the heroine, needs to be invited to more dinner parties. She's shy and crusty, but her soul needs to hear more stories.

Maureen: Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay any attention to them, or let them influence your writing?
Molly: I do read reviews and sometimes I'll read something in a review and mull it over for next time, but so often what's one person's awful is another person's amazing. Such is the power of books, a highly personal medium.

Maureen: What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?
Molly: My husband and I are taking our two kids to New Zealand for six weeks in August. Thank You Bantam!!

Maureen: Tea or Coffee? And how do you take it?
Molly: Coffee with milk all day long.

Maureen: What does it mean to love someone?
Molly: It means feeling more of everything. More joy, more fear, more disappointment, more bliss.

Maureen: Wow. What a great answer. You should write romance novels! LOL. What’s your favorite kid joke?
Molly: Right now we've got a knock knock joke spree at our house, so I will say any joke that ISN'T a knock knock joke.

Maureen's Gotta Ask, Molly's Gotta Answer

Maureen: Will you share some of your guilty pleasures?
Molly: Guilty Pleasure....brownies. I love brownies. And those old Elizabeth Lowell romances that are so un-PC they're practically a lesson in how not to be treated by a man. But there you have it. Chocolate and alpha-males.

Molly Asks Her Fans:

What's your favorite romance hook? Secret babies? Marriage of Convenience? Sheiks?
