It's hard not to answer
when trouble comes knocking
A girl who can’t forget…
Twenty-two-year-old
Lucy Carver is like Sherlock Holmes in ballet flats, but her eidetic memory is
more albatross than asset, and something she usually keeps hidden. When she
notices that something’s amiss at her dead-end job, she jumps at the chance to
finally use her ability for good. That is, until, a man is murdered, and she
becomes the target of the killer.
A detective on his
first case…
Detective
Eli Reyes is overbearing, pompous, way too hot for Lucy’s own good, and seems
as determined to ruin her relationship with her boyfriend, John, as finding the
murderer. He brings Lucy in on the case, thinking she can help him get to the
truth, only to cut her loose when he realizes he’s gotten far more than he ever
bargained for.
A past that won’t go
away…
When
memories from her childhood invade her present, Lucy discovers a mystery bigger
than she could have imagined. With the killer still after her, and Eli nowhere
to be found, she takes things into her own hands, determined to expose the
truth no matter what—before trouble comes knocking…again.

Mary’s
been writing since she was a teenager, though she spent quite a few years
studying toward becoming a doctor before she realized she wanted to be a
full-time author. Unfortunately, the people who own her student loans still
want to be paid for the years they supported her medical dreams.
She
lives on a steady diet of coffee and chocolate and feels, like Eleanor
Roosevelt, that people should believe in the beauty of their dreams. Also, that
people should ignore the word “should” because really, it’s kind of a judgmental
word. Mary dreams of one day living as a full-time, well-paid novelist (hint,
hint) and also of traveling to Chile to pay homage to her soul mate, Pablo
Neruda.
MARY: I don’t think I’m ever Not lost in a
story. Even as I’m working on this I’m thinking about what’s coming next for
Lucy in the Trouble series. I’m thinking about the three books I want to write
to follow up on the Texas Millionaire’s series. I’ve got a series of young
adult books I want to write...gah. So many words, so little time.
CLOVER: So you have
more stories in your head then you have time to write them. Good
for us, crazy brains for you. What has drawn you to write in the New Adult
genre?
MARY: I think it has so much potential. I have a heck of a lot of nieces and
nephews and I know that as they get older, they don’t always transition into
adult books all that well. They go from loving Young Adult to pretty much not
reading anything. So I see this as a stop-gap genre that will hopefully
transition those readers into loving older books.
CLOVER: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
MARY: I don’t know if I have a favorite of all time, but I absolutely love Kiss
Kiss Bang Bang. My favorite *OMG I can’t believe I’m telling anyone this*
movies of all time are Young Guns II, and Little Shop of Horrors. Oh, and my
favorite movie that I love OH SO MUCH, but rarely watch is Like Water for
Chocolate.
CLOVER: What do you do to unwind and relax?
MARY: Reading, of course. Or cooking. I also love to crochet. And, another of
course, playing with my animals. I’ve got three cutie pie dogs and an adorable
and sweet cat. I love these little critters. *big heart*
CLOVER: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
MARY: I’m going for a duo with this one...Pinky and the Brain. It was such a
brilliant show and I loved all of the inside jokes and watching as they tried
in each episode...to take over the world. Muah ha ha ha ha!!!
CLOVER’S GOTTA
ASK: Besides, uh, taking over the world, what dreams have been realized as a
result of your writing?
MARY’S GOTTA
ANSWER: The
biggest is that I’m able now to work as a full-time, stay-at-home author. I’ve
wanted this since I was thirteen and to be able to live that dream is magical. I’ve
lived in my head my entire life but didn’t think I’d get a chance to put what I
love on paper, much less that people would want to read what I wrote. I’m
exceptionally thankful that my readers have made this all possible for me.
THANK YOU SO
MUCH FOR SPENDING TIME WITH US TODAY. BUT BEFORE YOU GO, TELL US WHAT YOU HAVE
COMING UP NEXT.
MARY: Next is UNSPOKEN TROUBLE
due out in early(ish) 2014. After that, BURNING
TROUBLE in late 2014 and the follow up Texas
Millionaire’s book in early 2015.
THANK YOU.
