We're off to the Rodeo with Trish Milburn!

Her Texas Rodeo Cowboy
Harlequin Western Romance

ISBN: 978-0373757732

THE STORY BLURB
Sloane Hartley is deeply rooted to her family’s ranch in Blue Falls, Texas. So she isn’t about to risk falling for a tempting tumbleweed like Jason Till. To Sloane, Jason is a handsome heartbreak waiting to happen. Like all rodeo cowboys. If she ever let herself love again, she certainly wouldn’t pick someone like him!
Jason only has eyes for one prize—the steer-wrestling championship. And he can’t afford any distractions. Certainly not a blonde beauty with trust issues like Sloane. She represents everything a cowboy on the circuit can’t have anyway—home, family, a real relationship. Everything he thought he didn’t need. But when he’s with Sloane, Jason can’t remember why winning at the rodeo seemed so important.

MEET TRISH!
Trish Milburn is the author of more than 30 books with Harlequin, Penguin/Razorbill, Bell Bridge Books and via indie publishing. She lives on the Gulf Coast of Florida just a couple of miles from the beach, so enjoys taking an umbrella and beach chair over to the white sand for a day of writing or reading to the sound of the waves.

Lara: How often to you get lost in a story?
Trish: Pretty darn often, whether it’s one I’m writing or one I’m reading.

Lara: Which of your characters would you most/least to invite to dinner, and why?
Trish: Arden Wilkes, the heroine of In the Rancher’s Arms (Harlequin Western Romance, April 2017) because she’s worked all over the world as an international reporter. I was a reporter for a number of years, but I never did international reporting. I think it would be fascinating to talk to her about where she’d been, what she’d seen, and the people she’d met.

Lara: What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?
Trish: Seeing a book with my name on it the cover in a bookstore. There’s nothing quite like it. Also because of my writing, I’ve gotten to go to conferences in a lot of cities that I’ve gotten to explore. For instance, writing took me on all my trips to New York City where I got to visit Ellis Island and go to wonderful Broadway plays such as Wicked and The Lion King.

Lara: What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in?
Trish: It depends on my mood. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a rich historical romance. Other times, I want to delve into a post-apocalyptic young adult story. And sometimes I love a sweet friends-to-lovers contemporary romance.

Lara: What do you do to unwind and relax?
Trish: Watch TV. I’m a big binge watcher when I find something I like. Things I’ve recently binge watched are Riverdale, Grantchester, Victoria and Marvel’s The Defenders. As you can tell, my interests are varied – historical, superhero, teen drama.

Lara: What drew you to write in the genre(s) you do?
Trish: I love a happy ending, simple as that. The real world is so full of negative things, and real-world stories don’t always have a happy ending. I like writing stories where the bad guys are punished, the good guys win, and love conquers all – how I wish things were in the real world.

Lara: Do you write while listening to music? If so what kind?
Trish: Not typically. I’m easily distracted, so I like to write in the quiet. I do, however, break up my writing by writing X amount, then watching a segment of a TV show (what would normally be between commercials, or different scenes), then writing X amount again. This method works for me in that I get a lot of writing done while also enjoying watching favorite programs.

Lara: Who’s your favorite villain?
Trish: This is hard. Probably Darth Vader. I find anti-heroes much more interesting, characters like the Punisher, Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones, Ghost Rider, Boyd Crowder on Justified, Crowley on Supernatural.

Lara’s GOTTA ASK:  What are the next five books on your ‘to be read’ pile?
Trish’s GOTTA ANSWER:   I just started United by Melissa Landers, the final book in her Alienated trilogy. Next up will be On Second Thought by Kristan Higgins, All Fall Down by Ally Carter, Fierce on the Page by Sage Cohen, and Wild Horse Springs by Jodi Thomas.

Harlequin Western Romance Author, Trish Milburn!

THE ONLY PLACE SHE FEELS SAFE…

After her capture by human traffickers, international reporter Arden Wilkes should have felt safe back in her small hometown. Blue Falls, Texas, feels comfortingly familiar—and painfully foreign. Disoriented, Arden struggles to regain her sense of self and deal with the aftermath…only to find a sense of safety in the last place she ever expected.

Rancher Neil Hartley knows too well the kind of scars that trauma can bring. However, what started out as warm friendship with Arden is quickly turning into a deepening attraction. But despite Arden’s slow recovery—and the promise of love—her old life still awaits her return. Now Arden must choose between the woman she used to be…and the safety of her rancher’s arms.

Trish Milburn has written more than 35 novels and novellas for Harlequin, Bell Bridge Books, Razorbill/Penguin and through indie publishing. Her imagination runs in lots of different directions, so she’s written contemporary romance, romantic suspense, young adult and paranormal romance stories. She enjoys reading, watching TV, going for walks, seeing places she’s not seen before, and attending fan conventions where she’s been known to cosplay.

**GIVEAWAY BELOW**

Jan Schliesman: Do you ever get lost in your own stories?
Trish Milburn: Sometimes. You know it’s happened when you have a word count goal for the day and you suddenly look down and realize you’ve blown right past it.

Jan: Name three things on your desk right now.
Trish: A brownie, Sharpies (I love Sharpies) and a reminder to renew my car tags.

Jan: Do you struggle to find fresh ideas or do they come naturally?
Trish: I come up with all kinds of ideas. Sometimes, however, they don’t fit into the type of story I need to be writing, so I have to put them on the back burner. If only I could complete books as often as I get new ideas for stories.

Jan: What do you love most about your latest release?
Trish: The fact that it shows love can help heal even the deepest scars. My heroine, Arden, is a reporter like I was for years. However, while I covered local and statewide stories, Arden is an international reporter who goes to cover dangerous stories around the world and eventually is in the wrong place at the wrong time and is kidnapped by human traffickers as a result. I’ve always really admired those reporters who go to war zones to get the truth out, who put themselves in danger so that atrocities are not hidden from the world.

Jan: What are you currently reading?
Trish: Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson (inspired to read by watching Black Sails), and The Chemistry of Calm by Dr. Henry Emmons (trying to tackle my anxiety issues).

Jan: Do you believe in love at first sight?
Trish: I believe in a powerful attraction (physical and/or emotional) at first sight that can lead to love. But if you just see someone without knowing anything about them, I’m not sure that can be true love. They could be hot as fire but turn out to be a complete jerk. However, if you have some sort of actual interaction during that first meeting and they say or do something that really speaks to you – who you are and what you believe – then I think you can have a very strong indication that this might be a person with whom you could build something lasting.

Jan: If you had the skills to be in any other profession, what would it be?
Trish: Actor or a writer for TV and/or movies. One of my bucket list items is to appear in a TV episode or movie in some small way.

Jan: Best vacation you’ve ever taken?
Trish: I’ve loved my road trips out West to see my sister during which I hit as many units of the National Park Service as I could. My favorite is Yellowstone National Park, where my sister worked for a year back when we were in our 20s. It and Grand Teton National Park to the south are both gorgeous.

Jan’s GOTTA ASK: My hubby works for Tombstone/DiGiorno. What do you like on your pizza?
Trish’s GOTTA ANSWER: Pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and pineapple – all on the same pizza.

Say Hello to Trish Milburn!

It's my pleasure to welcome Trish Milburn to the blog for the very first time!
Trish writes the Blue Falls, Texas series for Harlequin American Romance and has published young adult fiction with Razorbill/Penguin and Bell Bridge Books. She’s also independently published several romantic suspense and women’s fiction novels. She’s a two-time winner of RWA’s Golden Heart Award and Georgia Romance Writers’ Maggie Award of Excellence. She’s a fan of road trips, seeing places she’s never seen before, the beach, TV and movies, and cosplay.

Safe In His Arms

When Aimee Brandon flees from a cult’s compound into a freezing Wyoming winter, she knows she has to survive and find help in order to save her mother and protect innocents from the cult’s plans. When she collapses on the cabin steps of former CIA agent Gideon Oakes, her plans are put on hold as Gideon nurses her back to health and they wait out a wave of snowstorms. The last thing Gideon wants is to return to the outside world, the one in which his mistake cost lives. But if he doesn’t get Aimee to the authorities, he might be responsible for even more deaths. What neither of them expects is to fall for each other in such a short amount of time, but there’s no arguing with the truth. This man who wants to hide from the world and the woman who has to return to it find love in the least-expected place at the least-expected time.

(Safe in His Arms is a “snowbound” contemporary romantic suspense novelette set in a Wyoming. Story length is approximately 12,500 words.)

Jan Schliesman: How often do you Get Lost In A Story?
Trish Milburn: As often as possible. J Seriously, whether it’s my own story, something I’m reading, or a favorite TV show, or a trip to the movies, I love getting swept up into a fictional tale that makes me feel all kinds of emotions.

Jan: It took you eleven years and two Golden Heart wins before you sold your first book. Looking back, would you do anything differently?
Trish: Probably try to convince myself not to take rejections so personally. There were many rejections that led to me curling up in a ball and crying.

Jan: What do you love most about your current release?
Trish: I love those snowbound-in-a-cabin romances, so I wrote one. Plus, this time of year is so busy for everyone that it’s difficult to invest time in reading something big. It’s a great time of year for reading anthologies, novellas and short fiction. This story is a novelette by definition, shorter than most novellas but longer than a short story. I also love how you have people with really opposite goals falling for each other quickly, which surprises them both. The hero, Gideon, is hiding from the world, and the heroine, Aimee, desperately needs to return to that world.

Jan: It was love at first sight when I met my hubby.  What about you?
Trish: Close to it. My husband and I were introduced by one of my best friends. She knew him from a summer program in Kentucky called Governor’s Scholars. When we all ended up at the same college, she introduced us. We started dating soon thereafter and have been together 26 years now. We’ll be celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary in a few days.

Jan: What snacks always occupy your writing space?
Trish: I try to keep them away because I’ll munch away until I’m as big as my house. But I do love Brookside’s chocolate-covered pomegranates or, this time of year, Pepperidge Farm’s pumpkin cheesecake cookies.

Jan: Favorite sports team?
Trish: Nashville Predators NHL team

Jan: What one book from your childhood is your favorite?
Trish: Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Jan: Where do your very best ideas for story lines come from?
Trish: I’m really inspired by good storytelling in other forms – TV and movies. Sometimes it will just be a blip of an idea inspired by something I’m watching. The final product might bear very little resemblance at all, but the idea sets me off in my own direction. Once, however, I swear an idea just seemed to fall out of the sky as I was driving through Illinois cornfields. I had to pull over and write it down before I forgot it.

Jan: Any rituals you following while writing a book?  Celebrate a certain way when it’s completed?
Trish: I tend to write while watching TV. I use a rewards system: I write X number of pages, then I get to watch a segment of a recorded program between commercials. Then I have to write more pages, and so on. It’s sort of a joke with my husband, but I do have a little “I Finished a Book” dance.

Jan’s GOTTA ASK:
Trish’s GOTTA ANSWER: Chocolate followed closely by orange sherbet.
