We've added another 2010 Golden Heart winner to our Get Lost In A Story group. Welcome Jillian Stone.
Hi everyone! I'm Jillian Stone, the newest member of the awesome blog team here at Get Lost In a Story. This past spring/summer I was a first time entrant, finalist and winner of 2010 Golden Heart for Romantic Suspense. THE YARD MAN is also my book debut from Pocket Books, due to be released March, 2012. Yay! The novel is followed by two more featuring Scotland Yard detectives who mix business with pleasure in the Victorian Romantic Suspense series. And coming from Kensington Brava in fall 2012, THE SEDUCTION OF PHAETON BLACK. A gritty, whimsical Steampunk romance recounting the amorous adventures of Phaeton Black, occult detective and his female companion, feisty Cajun beauty America Jones. Two more novels in the series for are scheduled for 2013.
I live in Southern California a few miles north of San Diego. I have no social life whatsoever because I am writing four more books in a year and a half. Lol! My friends and I get together mostly through e-mail. Occasionally, I escape to a movie or go out to dinner, or to an RWA meeting. When I complete my book contracts, I'll take a couple months off to travel. Research for new novels, of course! And my lap top will have to come along with me––I have stories to write!
Hi Jillian!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to your posts.
And CONGRATULATIONS on the upcoming release of your YA novel THE YARD MAN.
Merry Christmas!
RK Charron
Lady, I've been waiting on pins and needles for these books since I first read the blurb you wrote. :) Congratulations, and keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteBe safe. My husband is on a short job assignment in LA, and I know the weather's a mess.
Jillian,
ReplyDeleteThese books sound brilliant. Looking forward to reading them. And congrats on the new blog.
Way to go! I told my sister about The Yard Man and she keeps asking when it will be available. Now we know! So proud of you. All the best,
ReplyDeleteEB
Congratulations Jillian. You've had an amazing year and I certainly can't wait to read the fruits of your social-less life :-D I look forward to your posts here too!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to have you with us, Jillian!
ReplyDeleteJillian so glad you've joined us. We're going to have fun. Cant wait for your books to come out.
ReplyDeleteMUAH HA HA! Love ya Jillian and I soooo get lost in your stories. I will be cyber stalking you now on this blog. And like I said before, when your books hit the shelves, I will be there jumping up and down like Will Ferrell in ELF exclaiming, "Oh, my God it's here! It's Here! I know her! I know her!"
ReplyDeleteRK Charron: Thanks for the congrats. A small correction: THE YARD MAN series is not YA but Historical Romantic Suspense, for when the young adults get a bit older!
ReplyDeleteGillian: Thanks Gillian, writing away on the series right now!
Thanks Hope. They're different enough that I am hopeful the romance reader will appreciate a change from dukes to detectives and duchesses to damsels in distress.
EB: Thanks so much for the encouragement and thank your sister!
Lizbeth: It has been an amazing year. It felt as though I was able to enjoy the ride for about two seconds. Ha ha! Thanks for stopping by!
Heather: Thanks Heather, I'm excited too!
Cat: Glad to be here Cat.
Alright ladies, I'll be back and check in later. Right now it's back to work on book #2! ;) Jillian
So glad you joined us, Jillian! Deadlines are one of those be careful what you hope for things. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Hi Charli!
ReplyDeleteYou host the single most outrageous blog site in all of blog-about-romance-writing (aj and charli bite back) and I am so happy you dropped by. Someday you and Jodie and I have to get together in person!
Muah! Jill
HI Maureen,
ReplyDeleteYeah, the deadlines are things you just have to get used to and I am just now beginning to adjust to life as a writer under contract!
Thanks for the welcome, Jill
Great to see you here, Jill! As always, I love to hear from you:) Wishing you much success for the new year!
ReplyDeleteSuper congratulations Jill! You inspire me to keep fighting the fight to become published.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your success. I'll be curious to check out your steampunk book, since that seems to be the coming thing.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love "The Yard Men" title. That stands apart from the usual titles.
It's so great to have you here on GLIAS, Jillian ! Can't wait to read your stories and the interviews you'll be lining up.
ReplyDeleteGot a question for you...did you read Sherlock Holmes stories? Are the Yard Men something like those?
~~Angi
OMG, the G. Jillian adventure airship has landed! In 2012, (after the Mayans reassure us Earth won’t end), scores of rabid females will line up around bookstores for your autograph, screaming to see pictures of Zeno and Phaeton. I suggest you pack extra chocolate and have your agent call Depp and Downey Jr. to star in the movie adaptations.
ReplyDeleteJill, so good to know someone else loves those dark heroes. Usually my male characters need anger management therapy or a zap from a Taser. Can’t decide which.
Truly, it’s been a thrill to watch your writing career soar this past year. I have been a mere remora on your Great White journey. A pilot fish waving at your steampunk airship. Good to know you’ve found a blogging neighborhood with kindred spirits. I will be sure to visit!
Have a wondrous holiday and celebrate your success. Hugs to Bronson et al! 2010 was tres magnifique! Signed, your humble friend.
P.S. I've tried to post this 3 times, it'll be my luck to repeat, over & over. How embarrassing.
Welcome Jill! Glad to see someone else who writes dark on the blog. We can balance the scales :)
ReplyDeleteWe're going to have some fun!
Mart: Great to hear from you. I am thinking you have finished your YA paranormal and are onto the sequel!
ReplyDeleteBrenda: Never give up! I still remember reading your chapters and thought they were terrific!
Bill: Thanks for your interest! THE YARD MAN title stumps a lot of people. I think they envision a Desperate Housewife chasing the eighteen year old lawn boy around the pool. (Kind of a contemporary Lady Chatterley's Lover!}
I still don't know if any of the titles will survive. I will keep everyone posted on that!
Angi:
ReplyDeleteWhen people read either book series, they do bring up Sherlock Holmes. And in the next breath Johnny Depp or Robert Downey, Jr. This of course, is not a bad conclusion for any reader to come to! Lol!
In the Steampunk/paranormal, Phaeton is an occult detective who, like Sherlock, contracts with Scotland Yard on unusual cases. He also forms an alliance with a strange physician, Doctor Exeter, who could well turn out to be a kind of Doctor Watson. Although I would have to say, Phaeton is much more amorous than Sherlock!
THE YARD MAN actually sprang from the idea that in fiction and films, Scotland Yard inspectors are almost always portrayed as kind of bumbling. So I did some research and found out that there was a Special Branch of Scotland Yard, a core of elite detectives. And I took it from there!
Dear Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteYou are such a great friend, fan and crit partner! And that new man you are writing, Lucian? Dark and delicious!
Muah! Jill
March 2012 seems so far away, doesn't it? Bu that 12 months is goign to fly with 4 books to write, Jillian!
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, what are those books going to be about - are they in a series or stand alones?
Hi Simone,
ReplyDeleteWe will be the yin to their yang or vice versa! Lol!
Jillian
Thanks for stopping by Kylie!
ReplyDeleteThe Yard Men Series are stand alones with a cast of minor Scotland Yard characters that appear in all the books, like Special Branch Director William Melville.
The Seduction of Phaeton Black is the first in a series. Phaeton goes on to form an occult detective agency with Miss Jones. It was pitched to Kensington as a Steampunk, late Victorian version of the 80's TV show Moonlighting. Lol!
Jillian, I'm so excited to read Seduction of Phaeton Black, I think I'm already in love with your detective! Congratulations on joining this great group of writers. I look forward to reading your posts. Can't wait to hear your journey of writing four books in a year. No life? It's a big club :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for a phenomenal 2011!

ReplyDeleteAnd I am likewise looking forward to your Hollywood Hoodoo series!
Here's to an exciting 2011 for everyone!
Jillian
Jillian, I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on your story. WHY does it all have to take so long? Argh!!
ReplyDelete-Abigail
Welcome, congrats and can't wait to hear more from you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Abigail and Alexa.
ReplyDeleteSorry you have to wait so long! In 2012 there will be four books released in one year! I'll keep you posted!
I feel as though one of my brood has left the nest. I'm so proud of you, Jill. Fly high, fly far. You deserve it.
ReplyDeleteMM
Jillian, I'm late! Welcome to Get Lost in a Story. As someone who read your first chapter I was drawn in in seconds. The writing and topics were so compelling. Imagine readers won't be able to put these books down!
ReplyDeleteJillian,
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm so late to the show but I wanted you to know how excited I am for you. Love your writing and can't wait to pre-order your books.
