Handsome and wild, the Chisholm brothers were a force to be reckoned with – but so were the women destined to steal their hearts…

Responding to a 911 call, Whitehorse Deputy Halley Robinson is stunned to find herself face-to-face with her teenage crush, Colton Chisholm. The schoolboy who had teased her is now a strong and sexy man – and he's on a mission to solve a case! But if he plans on unmasking a killer, he's going to need her help.

Colton can no longer run from the truth… someone in his small town has gotten away with murder. Now it's up to him to bring the killer to justice – with the help of the local authorities, which, to his surprise, include Halley. The girl who had once idolized him is now a woman he must fight to resist. But as they work on the case, the attraction between them only grows stronger. Their rocky past may lead to a future together… unless the killer parts them forever.

B.J. DANIELS . . . I was born in Houston, Texas, so my roots are southern, but moved to Montana at the age of five. So that is why I write about Montana. I try to let my readers experience the unique place where I live. I sold my first short story in 1987 to Woman's World. It was my dream to write fiction so that was one great day. I was a reporter and editor at the local newspaper and continued to write short stories, but my goal was to sell a book. I sold my first one in 1995. Since then I have sold 66. I have to pinch myself sometimes. This is so much fun. I have won numerous awards, but the most surprising accomplishment was when four of my Harlequin Intrigue Whitehorse: Winchester Ranch books made the USA Today list! I am truly blessed that I get to do this.

THE Q&A ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
BJ: LOL, Angi. I'm always lost in a book, either mine or someone else's. There is nothing like getting so involved in a story that you burn dinner. *grin*

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
BJ: I read Trixie Beldon books. I loved mysteries. But when I really got lost in a book it was when a teacher made me read Exodus. I remember looking up from the pages one time and my mother was standing over me with a big spoon in her hand. Apparently she had been calling me to set the table multiple times. I hadn't heard a thing.

ANGI: What’s your favorite “love” word?
BJ: Thank you. Oops that's two words.

ANGI: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
BJ: Cinderella

ANGI: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
BJ: Scooby Doo

ANGI: What turns you off like nothing else?
BJ: Coffee. I love the smell of it. But why does it have to taste like that? That was a huge disappointment when I finally got to try to coffee. So unfair.

ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
BJ: Country-western music. My daughter just made me the most wonderful CD of all my old favorites.

ANGI: Where do you read and how often?
BJ: I have a wonderful screened-in front porch on the old house where we live. It is perfect for summer reading.

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?
BJ: I love the sound of a lawnmower, seriously, and the smell of fresh cut grass. Another sound I love, after growing up on a lake, is a boat motor out on the water.

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
BJ: I love mysteries. I grew up watching old movie mysteries like: Dial M for Murder.

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
BJ: When we were kids, my cousins, brother and I spent a summer sleeping in a tent beside the lake. I used to write short scary stories to read them at night! I had a captive audience. *grin* Poor kids.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
BJ: Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte. That movie still scares me. And American Dreamer, the one where the heroine enters a writing contest, wins, flies to Paris, gets amnesia and thinks she is the heroine of the book. It is the funniest thing. I wish I'd written it! I know, that was 2 favorites. Sorry.

ANGI: Who’s your favorite villain?
BJ: The one I'm writing now. :) I love villains who believe they have a very good reason for doing what they're doing. I hate the ones who are portrayed as simply insane. I think villains we feel for are much scarier than just a crazed killer.

ANGI: Be honest, when reading...do you put yourself in the heroine’s role?
BJ: Not when I'm reading, but definitely when I'm writing. Of course my heroine's are much more heroic and brave than I am. They are what I would like to be.

ANGI: Is writing or story-telling easier for you?
BJ: Story-telling. I grew up in a family of storytellers. As kids we camped a lot and I loved listening lying in the tent at night and listening to the adults sitting around the campfire telling stories.

ANGI: What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?
BJ: I don't think I need to tell them that I love writing stories. There is nothing more fun for me than getting lost in my own stories and wondering how they are going to end. I never know. If I did know how they ended, I probably wouldn't write them. I am finishing a book now and I still don't know who the killer is. I'm at the point where the heroine hears a noise behind her and turns to come face to face with.... :) I'm not sure who it is. I won't know until I write it. Now that is fun!

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: So, BJ, what are your two most favorite things? And what makes them so special?
BJ’S GOTTA ANSWER: My father was a boat builder before he became a masonry contractor. We were both named after his father's best friend, also a boat builder. So is it any wonder that I love boats and being on the water? My most favorite thing is being with the people I love. I have a wonderful husband who I adore, three daughters (two stepdaughters), several adorable son-in-laws and a passel of grandchildren. They are all my favorite things. *GRIN*

  1. A good story has likable characters, a plot that moves along and gets your emotions going.

  2. My favorite kind of stories involve a bit of danger. I like to see the hero and heroine react to whatever situation they find themselves in. The feelings they have for each other develop more quickly when they have an external threat.

Of course not every story has to have danger. But my favorite types of romance are suspense and paranormal. The danger element seems par for the course in those stories. Great question!

  4. Good morning! And thanks for having me here. I agree with Jane and StacieDM. I like the danger and suspense, a story that MOVES! It's that action thing, huh, Angi. :) Also I love witty, smart characters. Got to have that connection between them.
What is fun about writing is giving life to characters. I just love meeting them and seeing what is going to happen next.
Hope you're all having a great mornin'!

  6. Hi B.J.

  7. Hi BJ! First I love your books! Cannot wait fo the new series!
A story is always good, when you can get lost in the characters. If you can feel the emotions and passion throughout the book, I am in LOVE! I love a variety of books from Mystery and Advanture(currently reading the Templar Salvation by Raymond Khoury)to Romance, so if I can be drawn into the story from start to finish, then that is a good story!

I'm finishing up the Chisholm Cattle Company 6-book series (the first one just hit the shelves this week: BRANDED)
I have always loved stories that are a little creepy and I have a villain in this series that I love. She is sooo wonderful because of the lengths she will go to.
I too love the mix of mystery and romance and of course lots of adventure.
It is great to be here today. Thanks so much for stopping by!!

  10. Great interview, ladies! BJ, it was great getting to know more about you. As for what makes a good story...hmmmm, flawed characters where I can overlook their flaws and still root for them.

  12. I enjoyed the interview. Great Q&A! To hold my attention, a good story has to have several things. The pace has to be fast, danger imminent, roamnce intense, and of course a happy ending.

  13. A good story to me has to have great characters, a good plot, and humor. I also really like a happy ending.

Btw, I also love the smell of coffee but can not stand the taste of it.

  14. Maureen and Donnell, thank you for having me here! I love your site! I too love books that capture me from the first page and won't let me go.
Alexa LOL. Another fan of flawed characters you end up liking. My favorite.
Jerrie, I had to smile when I read what you said about fast pacing. My first revision letter was: we love the pacing and the characters, but you can completely change the plot if you want to. :) So they bought the book pretty much on the pacing, I think.
June, LOL, most everyone thinks coffee tastes good. What is wrong with them? :)
    Thanks for stopping by everyone!
