MILE-HIGH FLING

Three things occur to medical pilot Blake Taylor as Dr Molly McKinna boards his plane:

2) His new colleague is a city girl through and through – this should be interesting!

3) His resolve to be all work and no play is slipping by the minute…!

FLY TO THE UK for a LITTLE of the STORY

THE PATIENT, TINA BECKETT
(she’s not really…she’s my long-time contest buddy)
A three-time Golden Heart® finalist, Tina Beckett writes contemporary medical romances for Harlequin Mills & Boon as well as single title romantic suspense novels for Carina Press. When not in the middle of her latest book, Tina enjoys crafting stained glass panels, riding horses and hiking with her family. Fluent in Portuguese, she divides her time between Brazil and the United States and loves to use exotic locales as the backdrop for many of her stories. You can learn more about Tina at her website or find her hanging out on Facebook or twitter.

ANGI'S NOTE: Just wanted to say how very very happy I am for Tina. For quite a number of years, Tina and I went head-to-head in many contests, including the Golden Heart®. I'm happy as a tail-waggin' pup that she sold. You can see us both in the pic below with Rochelle Staab in Orlando at the GH reception. So...let's get to those fun answers!

PATIENT’S CHART
ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
TINA: Wow, I remember so many childhood books, but I think the first ones had to be Dr. Seuss books, especially HOP ON POP. I used to think it was fun to act out the storyline on my poor dad’s stomach (I had the words memorized, after all). I’m sure he didn’t find it quite as amusing, however.

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
TINA: My maternal grandfather was my biggest hero. He taught me how to swim and had an infinite amount of patience in letting me tag along with him everywhere. My grandparents even took me on a road trip that lasted an entire summer—that’s pretty courageous, wouldn’t you say? My middle daughter has pale blue eyes, the exact color of my grandfather’s. It makes me happy to think I’ve passed a little piece of him on to the next generation.

2010 Unsinkable Sisters (all now published):
Rochelle Staab, Angi & Tina Beckett
ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
TINA: Keith Urban works for just about any situation, I’ve found.

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?
TINA: I’m a “horsey” person, so I love the soft nicker of recognition that one horse gives to another or to the human he cares about. There’s also something special about riding a horse in frosty weather...the way a strong snort causes a puff of mist to rise from their nostrils. Very familiar and comforting sounds.

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
TINA: Do I have to choose? I like a little bit of both in my reading material!

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
TINA: I was an adult when I wrote my first book, actually. I’d run out of English reading material (this was before the days of digital books) and in desperation, I decided to write a romance. The finished product was a real stinker, in all honesty. But the rush I got from writing it matched the emotions I experienced while reading. At that point, I was hooked.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
TINA: Wow, that’s a toughie. I think I have two: When Harry Met Sally and While You were Sleeping. I absolutely loved Bill Pullman’s little half smile and the way his whole face softened whenever he looked at Sandra Bullock. I also loved the scene when they’re walking across the ice, trying to keep the other from falling.
As far as movies go, a HEA is a must for me. My kids will tell you the only movie I’ve ever liked with a less than happy ending was I Am Legend. I’ve never watched the movie Titanic for just that reason—even though my girls have tried multiple times to drag me in front of the screen while it’s playing!

ANGI: Who’s your favorite villain?
TINA: My favorite villain. Hmmm, let’s see. Well that would have to be Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. Anthony Hopkins did a fantastic job with that character. The calm, soothing tone of his voice was so at odds with what the viewer knew he was capable of.

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
TINA: Ooh. Vices are those things that, while bad for you, are actually too fun to resist, right? Okay. Coffee and chocolate. In that order. Combined, they’re even more deadly. I won’t be giving either of those up any time soon!

ANGI: How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?
TINA: It’s just such a hardship, you know...

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: Without any spoilers, tell us about writing your favorite scene. Did you know at the time you were writing? Or did it happen after the book was finished?
TINA’S GOTTA ANSWER: My favorite scene occurs in the first chapter of the book. My heroine is terrified of flying and yet has accepted a job on an island—air travel is mandatory. What was she thinking? Her reaction during that initial flight—and the hero’s response to it—sets the tone for the entire story.

TINA’S GOTTA QUESTION: Since we’re talking romance, what’s your favorite romantic movie of all time?

  1. WELCOME TO GLIAS, TINA !!
It's great to have our Unsinkable Sister with us today.

Romantic Movie, hmm? Well, the reason I love romantic suspense is because 1) I have to have a happy ending & 2) I looove action/adventure. So the one that pops into my head first is KNIGHT & DAY. That's recent. And I know you're going to say I'm crazy but....TERMINATOR.

OKAY, I know you're saying WHAT? But think about it...the ONLY reason REESE comes through time to same the world is because he fell in love with Sarah Connor's picture. Very powerful.

    I could choose more....LUUUVVVV movies.

  2. Angi!! Thanks so much for having me here today! And, can I just say your books rock! Just finished reading 38 Caliber Cover-Up. I devoured that thing!

I loved The Terminator as well. Reese following Sarah through time was definitely romantic!

    1. THANK YOU TINA !!
Don't you just love it when someone says "I devoured" your book? >>>grin<<<

I'm glad to know someone else "gets" Terminator. James Cameron has such a thing for hands (think about TITANTIC), but I first realized how sexy hands were in the TERMINATOR.

  3. Tina! Woot woot!

One of my favorite movies is The Philadelphia Story (not to be confused with Philadelphia), but I'm not sure how romantic that is. Funny, sure, and there's a HEA, but the movie itself is more comedy.

Bring on When Harry Met Sally and While You Were Sleeping! Love them both. Princess Bride, definitely. I think seeing that is a prerequisite for life, right? :)

    1. Hi Abigail! My family just watched Princess Bride for the umpteenth time a couple of nights ago. Love that movie. I haven't seen The Philadelphia Story...I'm putting that on my list of things to see.

      Thanks!

  4. ohhhhhhh, Tina, popping in to say hi,what a delicious cover, Doctors Guide to Dating in the Jungle. And I devoured Angi's book too, Better than a Tums tablet. Loved your answers. You write medicals, so do you have a medical background?

Gosh, best romantic movie. So many. I'll drop what I'm doing for Overboard anytime, two nights ago I stayed up way passed my bedtime to watch, He's Just Not into You. But I love political movies. Loved the Movie Dave and An American President. Love to see honorable men win. Ha, now that is fiction :)

Best wishes on a fantastic sell through!

    1. Thanks, Donnell. I've been known to devour a Tums or two as a deadline approaches. :) I loved Overboard as well...that scene where Kurt Russell is checking out Goldie Hawn's backside as she's leaning over a lounge chair was fun. The fact that they're a couple in real life just adds a little more to the movie, don't you think? I also loved Dave, great movie!

I don't have a medical background, actually (well, I was a candy striper in high school, but I don't think that counts). I wanted to be a nurse for a long time, then when I hit college my interests shifted to psychology. I still love forensic/medical shows of all kinds. And Mystery Diagnosis and Medical Detectives are two of my favorites (we even get those shows here in Brazil!). Research is part of the fun of writing, for me.

    2. Tina, excellent. Are you coming to RWA National. And are you a member of Heartbeat? You may know this already but thought I'd ask. I've got a medical background by osmosis. My mom is an R.N. and in court reporting school I learned medical transcription.

You have GREAT taste in movies! Hope to see you soon!

    3. I am coming to RWA National this year. Sooo looking forward to it. I'm not a member of Heartbeat, but I plan on joining. I'm slow. :)

How neat that your mom is an R.N. Do you find your background helps you write suspense? Whatever it is, it's working! Your book is finaling right and left. Congratulations!
