Did you know that the Texas Rangers Division is the "oldest law enforcement body on the North American Continent" and recognized throughout the world? Volunteers were given permission from the Mexican government on August 10, 1823 to be exact. So six generations of Rangers is very believable.
The Rangers no longer roam the 'range' scouting the movements of American Indians. Now they're a division of six companies and a part of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Their numbers are limited. And their primary duties (under their state charter) consist "primarily of conducting criminal and special investigations, apprehending wanted felons, suppressing major disturbances, protection of life and property, and rendering assistance to local law enforcement officials in suppressing crime and violence."
I hope my hero, Cord McCrea does the badge of the Rangers justice.

Laura and I tied - we were both winners. I won the Intrigue trivia on my own and was supposed to get books too. I told Wayne I already had Aimee Thurlo's books, He never responded with what I won (and I asked him twice to do that) Oh well, looks like Laura got the books and I won 2 contests and got nothing.

MY HUSBAND still can't believe that the Texas Rangers are older than the Boston P.D. This is what I found from their site: "The initiation of a formal department began in 1838, when the General Court passed a bill allowing the city of Boston to appoint police officers."

ReplyDeleteFor the Trivia Wayne said he would email me. He never did. I emailed him. No reply. He said he had a book for the winner. Then Julie came in and said she would send her book to everyone that played. I emailed Julie and she did reply, so I will get her book. I guess will just have to wait to see what we get for the Scavenger Hunt. At least you know you are getting Angi's book.
Tammy, Julie has asked me to let you know she'll get your books out next week. The end of the school year and her son's graduation have dominated her week.

ReplyDeleteJust want to say how much I enjoyed reading Protecting Their Child. Cord made a great Texas Ranger and showed how many times those that serve and protect us face life and death decisions. You also brought out the emotions and strength that their families must go through in Kate. Looking forward to your next book.
