Anna Lee Huber
Scotland, 1830. Following the death of her husband, Lady Darby has taken refuge at her sister's estate, finding solace in her passion for painting. But when her hosts throw a house party for the cream of London society, Kiera is unable to hide from the ire of those who believe her to be as unnatural as her husband, an anatomist who used her artistic talents to suit his own macabre purposes.
Penguin Group USA, Berkley Publishing Group
Michelle Vega, editor

Kiera wants to put her past aside, but when one of the house guests is murdered, her brother-in-law asks her to utilize her knowledge of human anatomy to aid the insufferable Sebastian Gage-a fellow guest with some experience as an inquiry agent. While Gage is clearly more competent than she first assumed, Kiera isn't about to let her guard down as accusations and rumors swirl.

When Kiera and Gage's search leads them to even more gruesome discoveries, a series of disturbing notes urges Lady Darby to give up the inquiry. But Kiera is determined to both protect her family and prove her innocence, even as she risks becoming the next victim...

Anna is also a finalist in the Novel with Strong Romantic Elements category.

  1. I think that it would have to be Jennifer Lawrence. She's fresh & quite interesting.

    1. She is the reason I'm considering finally watching the Hunger Games. Loved her in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK.

  2. He's not really a new actor but new to me: Richard Armitage. I first saw him in The Hobbit & was totally smitten.

    1. Linda, I also think he's in the BBC series ROBIN HOOD.
      Great choice.

  3. Congratulations again to all the finalists. Is it bad that I want you all to win? !! :-)

One of the actors that comes to mind is Anton Yelchin who was in the new STAR TREK's and TERMINATOR SALVATION.

  4. Thanks for sharing these new authors with us. It's always fun to get in at the beginning of an authors journey to success. Good luck to everyone.

  5. Well... I like Jennifer Lawrence too. :) She is cute! I also like Channing Tatum. :) He seems like a nice guy in real life too!

  8. First, congratulations to the Nominees of the Best First Book. Each of the books seem to have an interesting story with a new take. I'd be happy to read any one of them.

Not sure I really am aware of 'new' actors; by the time I recognize any, they are already somewhat established. Probably, for me, the newest is Channing Tatum -- first was aware of him in The Vow, and just saw him in White House Down.

  9. Congrats to all of the nominees! I have a lot of favourite actors and as for the new ones I would have to say Jennifer Lawrence is one of my favourites.

  10. Asa Butterfield- I am really looking forward to seeing Ender's Game this fall!!

Josh Hutcherson also from The Hunger Games!

  11. Congrats to the nominees! Do we know who won yet?

    Marcy Shuler

  12. Good luck and congrats to all. Benedict Cumberbatch is on my watch list.

  13. I would choose Shailene Woodley, I just saw her in The Descendants and she was fantastic.
