Sass Kickin' Personal Assets

PERSONAL ASSETS
Texas Nights
Carina Press

Sex therapist Allie Shelby has the professional credentials, but she could use a bit more practical experience. Finding the right man to bring out her inner bad girl is tough in a population-challenged Texas town. So when sinfully sexy Cameron Wright rolls back into Shelbyville, Allie wastes no time inviting him to join her in some hands-on research.

Cameron has come home to fulfill his dream of restoring classic cars. Back in high school, he knew the town princess, Allie Shelby, was way out of his league. Today he has even less in common with Allie, so he's shocked as hell when she propositions him. Still, he's only human, so he accepts her offer--and with each encounter, she shows him another, wilder side. Before long, he's thinking about more than just sex.

But while her personal life heats up, Allie's business is about to crash and burn. And she has to convince Cameron that she's one princess who's not looking for a prince to ride to her rescue.

READ A LITTLE … WANT IT NOW

KELSEY BROWNING writes sass kickin’ love stories full of hot heroes, saucy heroines and spicy romance. Originally from a Texas town smaller than the ones she writes about, Kelsey has also lived in the Middle East and Los Angeles, proving she’s either adventurous or downright nuts. These days, she hangs out in northeast Georgia with Tech Guy, Smarty Boy, Bad Dog and Pharaoh, a Canine Companions for Independence puppy. She’s currently at work on the next book in her Texas Nights series and The Granny Series.

GET TO KNOW KELSEY...
...right down to her Texas boots
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
KELSEY: Oh, not nearly as often as I want to anymore. I used to feel so sad when authors said that, but now I completely understand. Some weeks I won’t finish an entire book and others I’ll read a half-dozen.

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
KELSEY: This may sound cliché, but my real-life hero is my husband. Tech Guy puts his family before everything—absolutely everything—else in his life. For example, he always feeds Smarty Boy and me before he’ll take food for himself. My husband isn’t afraid to get involved when he thinks he can help in an emergency situation. Doesn’t think, just jumps in. Twice when we were overseas, he stopped the car to help people involved in car accidents—one time with a van lying on its side in the middle of a busy intersection. I was terrified the whole thing was going to blow. He told me later that gas was all over the road when he ran across it.
ANGI: Nothing cliché about that answer.

ANGI: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
KELSEY: Hands down, Scooby Doo. I’m a huge dog lover and can still get sucked into a Scooby and Shaggy adventure when they run the marathons on TV. Scrappy Doo, however, was some marketing execs idiotic brain-child. I’ve had violent fantasies toward that animal (and yes, I’m mildly ashamed).
ANGI: I knew there was more to you than your boots. Girlfriend, I've harbored those same violent fantasies (dropping my chin to my chest in shame). BUT I AM A SCOOBY LOVER!

ANGI: What do you like about the hero of your book?
KELSEY: Oh, so many things…Cameron is good with his hands. >>grin<< Seriously, he’s a mechanic and can fix stuff. I’m a sucker for a man who can do that (thus Tech Guy being my hero). He’s blue-collar but smart. He sacrificed for his family, but he isn’t bitter toward his mom and brother even though he dropped out of college to help them. And I LOVE the way he dresses—old T-shirts, ripped jeans and Tony Lama cowboy boots.

ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
KELSEY: Yes, I have a playlist for each of my books. Readers can find the Personal Assets playlist on my website. It includes a mix of country and rock, but my playlists are usually country heavy. The last song I added to the playlist was “Power of a Woman” by Lee Brice, and I think that’s the best representation of Allie and Cameron’s story.

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
KELSEY: Without thinking twice, action adventure. I like characters who kick butt rather than wait around for someone else to come rescue them.

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
KELSEY: Hmm…something about an imaginary dragon friend named Custard when I was in elementary school. Yeah, I’ve been making up stuff for a long, long time.

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
KELSEY: Besides lying for a living, you mean? As it is for many southern women, food and drink are probably my vices. I mean, we self-medicate with them both in good times and in bad. My food and drink downfalls are a stellar frozen margarita with salt, fresh-baked bread (really any carb), coffee ice cream, and Tech Guy’s migas. Think it’s a coincidence there are no fruits and veggies on that list? Nah, probably not. Wait! Wait! Lime is a fruit. (Insert fist pump here.)

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: My Texas friend…you don't live in our humble state (at the moment). What's your number one thing you miss the most? AND have you found a close replacement anywhere?
KELSEY'S GOTTA ANSWER:  One? Only one? Angi, you’re cruel and evil and…fine! Besides family and friends, I miss certain foods—Texas-style Tex-Mex, barbecue brisket, a decent margarita. (Like how I slipped in more than one thing? >>grin<<) As for replacements, we tend to make the foods we love and miss at home.

KELSEY WANTS TO KNOW what’s your most embarrassing moment? (If you share yours, I’ll share mine. And it’s a doozie!)

  1. Congrats on Personal Assets! My most embarrassing moment? Hmm...I probably have a lot of them because when I am nervous I talk too much and can reveal personal things. However, in 2nd grade, I remember I had a huge crush on a boy who would later go on to be my first boyfriend (if you can call it that in 2nd grade). He sat next to me in class and unfortunately I got the stomach flu and ended up throwing up all over him. I was so embarrassed but couldn't get out of my seat in time to run to the bathroom. It snuck up on me and I didn't want to throw up on my desk so I turned and he was in the way. He forgave me, though. :)

    1. Oh, that's a fabulous one, Amy! I did notice, however, that apparently the guy isn't your husband. Not sure he totally forgave you ;-).

    1. Thanks, Angi! I have several too. Isn't it funny how some things that are so embarrassing to you wouldn't even interest other people, though? I still cringe about one time I called a woman Jacques (like Cousteau) and her name was pronounced Jackie. LOL

      Thanks for having me here!

    1. Whew, May - I feel so much better as well to know I'm not alone. The feeling only became worse for me after those Scooby Doo movies when Scrappy was the bad guy - LOL.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Okay. My most embarrassing moment...

I was escorting a group of about 20 older alumni from my university to Italy. We flew Lufthansa and Tech Guy and I got some type of food poisoning (fast acting) from the breakfast they served. When we landed for a plane change in Frankfurt, we were bussed to the terminal. Yeah, on a bus with about 50 other people all crushed around me. Needless to say, my body didn't care that I was surrounded, so I puked in the handiest thing I had, which was a sock. Yeah, a sock is a little too...porous...to make a decent barf bag.

Dislike flying through Frankfurt to this day :-).

  8. My most embarrassing moment happened about two weeks into a job at a new store. A group of us were training for the grand opening and in middle of the boss explaining some stuff, I passed out. One minute I was listening to him and the next I was on the ground looking up at everyone. In my defense I had bronchitis, wasn't getting much sleep and we were working long hours. Somehow I still got a supervising position, I was just told to give them a heads up when I wasn't feeling well so they wouldn't freak out if it happened again. It also became a running joke for the four years that I worked there.

I'm just picturing you lying on the ground with all these folks gawking at you. I bet they kept a close eye on you from then on out! :-)
