AND THEN FOREVER
 Fortunes Island, Book 1

Welcome to Fortune’s Island, where the only rule is to follow your heart.

Love is an extravagance Darcy Williams can’t afford. She prefers the simple life, which includes waitressing at The Love Shack and avoiding temptation. But when a forbidden part of her past steps off the ferry, her safe, guarded existence is turned upside down.

Kincaid Foster has never gotten over his first love. When he sees the wild, beautiful blonde again, dancing her way around The Love Shack, the memories of Darcy’s soft skin, gentle touch, and heated kisses come rushing back. As the privileged son of a wealthy family, Kincaid was too young to stand up to his overbearing father when he and Darcy were together. Now, he’s back on the island—free of the family shackles—and the chiseled, big-time lawyer wants a second chance.

But, Darcy made a promise to keep a secret from Kincaid—a secret that is now a six-year-old girl who looks just like her daddy. If Kincaid finds out about their daughter, Darcy could lose everything. But, she can’t resist the man who stole her heart all those years ago. And it doesn’t take long before both of them realize that anything can happen on a hot summer night.

THE Q&A
ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
SHIRLEY: My grandmother would share books with me, and one of the first I remember getting lost in and truly enjoying was Christy by Catherine Marshall. I still have the copy my grandma gave me, and shared it with my daughter years ago. She loves it just as much!

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
SHIRLEY: I don’t know if I’ve ever met a quintessential real-life hero. I find most of my heroes are ordinary people. There are the extraordinary people that rush into a burning building, of course, but there is also the guy who helps a handicapped stranger get her wheelchair across a grassy lawn, or stoops to pick up a hermit crab on his back and release the little guy back into the sea. Those may seem like small acts, but they are very big acts to the person or animal whose life was affected. One of my very good friends is that guy, and he’s someone I try to emulate.

ANGI: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
SHIRLEY: That’s a hard one. I love all fairy tales. I remember my mom reading from this book of them to me when I was a little girl. We’d curl up in this big chair in the corner of the living room and she’d read one each night. I think my favorite is The Frog Prince, a story I’ve used a couple times in my books. To me, it’s about learning to see past the exterior of someone and seeing the wonderful person they are inside.

ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
SHIRLEY: Definitely all the summer hits, like “Love Shack” by the B-52s (the song the bar in my book uses to close out the night), and “This Afternoon” by Nickelback, “Soak up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow—anything that gets you in that beach party mood!
ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?
SHIRLEY: I love the sound of the ocean. Stormy days, quiet days…it doesn’t matter. When I can listen to that water reaching in across the sand, then whooshing back out again, it’s like a constant soft melody in my heart.

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
SHIRLEY: I don’t remember what it was about, but I do remember I had checked a book out of the library when I was in elementary school and I didn’t like how it ended, so I sat down and wrote my own ending for the book. My very first creation of a happily ever after! ;-)

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
SHIRLEY: My favorite movie of all time is actually a tie. I love, love, love “The Princess Bride”—I’ve seen it a thousand times and read the book several times (and one several editions of the book, as well as both DVD and Blu-Ray of the movie). I also love “Pretty Woman.” That’s my go-to movie when I’m feeling crappy and need a laugh.

ANGI: What's your most favorite thing to do in your state?
SHIRLEY: I live in Florida and I am outside ALL the time. I run, bike, swim…it’s an amazing place to live. My absolute favorite thing to do is be on the beach—walking it, swimming in the ocean, burying my toes in the sand. The second I see the ocean (I live about 6 miles away from the beach), it’s like this big sense of calm drops over me.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: What’s the scariest thing you’ve conquered?
SHIRLEY’S GOTTA ANSWER: This past weekend, I did a 3.5-mile swim down a river in Florida. Anyone who knows Florida knows the kinds of scary things that live in our fresh water places. Snakes, alligators, etc. There were about 30 of us doing the swim, and for the first mile, I was so close to the woman next to me, I bumped into her a couple times, LOL. I saw lots of turtles and fish, no snakes or alligators (thank God!) and I made it to the end. There was one remote stretch of the river that was shaded by thick trees, and didn’t have the boaters and houses that the other stretches had. It was the scariest part because it was darker and more forbidding. Why did I do it? Basically, I was tired of being afraid of things. A few years ago, I had decided I was going to start doing all the things that scared me, and though this swim was both terrifying and cool, I did it. And I signed up to do it again in another month!

SHIRLEY WANTS TO KNOW: What was the first book you read that impacted you? And why? Or, if you want a fun question instead, what is your favorite cookie? Mine is anything peanut butter (especially Nutter Butters) but I’ve been munching on Pepperidge Farm Nantuckets all day. Delish!
