THREE BOOKS YOU CAN’T MISS

HELENKAY DIMON has something new for everyone this fall.
HelenKay is a former divorce attorney turned full-time romance author. Odd transition, right? She has sold over thirty novels, novellas and shorts to numerous publishers, including Kensington, Harlequin and Penguin, Samhain, Carina Press, and HarperCollins. Her nationally bestselling and award-winning books have been showcased in numerous venues and her books have twice been named "Red-Hot Reads" and excerpted in Cosmopolitan magazine. But the best part of the job is never having to wear pantyhose.

FACING FIRE
Bad Boys Undercover, book #3

When his uncle is brutally murdered, Josiah King knows that business just got personal. His uncle’s ties to the Alliance can mean only one thing: Josiah and his black ops team are targets, along with everyone they love. Primed for vengeance, Josiah is determined to unravel the plot—until long-legged redhead Sutton Dahl becomes a dangerous distraction.

Sutton’s dream job turned into a nightmare when her boss hired someone to kill her. With nowhere else to run, she turns to Josiah. Secretive, strong, and much too sexy, he’s a puzzle she longs to solve, and a temptation she can’t ignore.

Thrown together in the face of Alliance’s most lethal threat, Josiah and Sutton become unlikely partners, fighting for their lives even as the attraction between them flares into real passion. Torn between his team and the woman who means everything to him, Josiah will risk it all to save Sutton, even if that decision is his last.

MINE
Holton Woods, book #3

She doesn’t depend on anyone for anything. He intends to make her his completely.

Natalie Udall thought her position at the CIA was secure—until protecting her team earned her an armed escort into certain danger. Natalie can’t stand the idea of being secreted away in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, especially since it means sharing close quarters with the controlling bodyguard enlisted to keep her alive.

Gabe MacIntosh joined the military to support his son, trained as a sniper and dealt with death on a regular basis. Now retired and operating a security firm, his first assignment is to protect a CIA agent on the run. She’s strong willed and difficult—and all Gabe can think about is stripping her of every expectation she has.

LINE OF FIRE
Greenway Range, book #2

With his military career over and his ego bruised, Jason McAdams is ready to start over. As a founding partner in Greenway Range, his new life is everything he’d ever dared to dream about, but it also puts him in constant contact with the one woman he can’t have: his best friend’s little sister.

Molly Cain has loved Jason for as long as she can remember, and seeing him now—damaged and self-destructive—is a constant heartache. Watching him numbly work his way through woman after woman is damn near intolerable. Until one summer night changes everything.

After a rocky start, the sex is hot and naughty and all Molly knew it would be. And when he makes another pass at her, Molly doesn’t say no. Or the many times after that, either. But Jason carries a secret—one that’s kept him away from Molly for all these years, one that could ruin everything. He’s been shot at and seen death, but letting the woman he loves find out the truth is the real worst-case scenario…

THE Q&A
Check out the Previous GLIAS interviews

ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
HELENKAY: As often as possible and non-stop after I turn my book in and the deadline is over. It’s my favorite thing. Fall into a story, forget what time it is, ignore the phone…forget to feed the pets.

ANGI: Benedict Cumberbatch or Chris Pine?
HELENKAY: I only get one choice?  Cumberbatch wins based on accent.

ANGI: What’s your favorite meal?
HELENKAY:  Steak and fries. It’s a little naughty and I generally need a nap after, but I love it!

ANGI: What do you like about the hero of LINE OF FIRE?
HELENKAY: He’s looking for redemption. He’s made huge mistakes and taken the heroine for granted, but he’s trying to be a better man.

ANGI: Where do you read and how often?
HELENKAY:  Unfortunately the real answer is: on my laptop while I revise the book I’m writing. But I love reading and have this chaise lounge in my office. It’s perfect for reading (and napping).

ANGI: What action adventure movie would you like to be in?
HELENKAY: All of them. I adore action movies but I fear in real life I’d be the first one to die.

ANGI: What’s your favorite recent movie?
HELENKAY: I just saw The Martian and really enjoyed it. I don’t know anything about science, so it could all be wrong and I don’t care.

ANGI: What's your most favorite thing to do in California?
HELENKAY: Walk by the Bay. Water, sun and a cool breeze - bliss!

ANGI: Is your favorite villain still Aaron Stampler in Primal Fear? How does his character hold that spot?
HELENKAY: He is absolutely a favorite because he hid his evil so well, yet it was right there under the surface and we wanted to think it wasn’t true.

ANGI: Hiking Boots or Dancing Heels?
HELENKAY: Never heels. I wear them for the three fancy things I go to a year and nothing more.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: In a recent tweet you said: Got 2 reviews tonight for LINE OF FIRE. One loved/one hated. No surprise. The hero/heroine make bad choices & may not connect w/ everyone.” Can you tell us a little more? Without spoilers of course.

HELENKAY:  Molly and Jason have a rough past. They’ve known each other forever. He is her big brother’s best friend. Their lives keep throwing them together and her feelings are still strong, but when the book opens she is done pining for him. Wants to stop loving him. Right at that time, of course, Jason realizes he’s been taking her for granted and hurt her and wants to fix their relationship. When you add in a HUGE secret that motivates his actions, you get a couple that wants to be together but keeps holding back. That leads to a lot of angst. Some reviewers are blaming Jason. Some are say Molly is the problem. It’s like watching friends take sides in a break-up. I had a feeling that would happen, but their battle is realistic in light of their past and it takes every minute of the few weeks over which the book happens to sort it all out.

  3. Welcome to the Crew Helen Kay!
I think that if a writer is good - like you - any trope works. And the best friend's sister carries such lovely dynamics with the men.

  9. HelenKay!! Welcome to GLIAS (again) Avon sis. I loved your Q&A -- especially that you might maybe forget the pets when you're reading and that Benedict Cumberbatch wins (Cumber-b's vs. Pinenuts). I actually quite like the best friend's sister trope--I have a version of that in a recent book and kind of had to fight for it! Keep writing those great action books--thanks for visiting today!
