Blackmail meets desire in this tale of secrets and revenge out West!
When Fiona Sanders is held at gunpoint at her convenience store job, Houston officer Nate Gallagher doesn't hesitate to act the hero. But within days she's targeted again and Nate knows the crimes aren't random. His only option: keep the vulnerable beauty safe while they search for the culprits.
Having lost her own father in the line of duty, Fiona refuses to fall for a cop—no matter how much the drop-dead gorgeous, self-appointed bodyguard tugs at her heartstrings. But as the enemy closes in and the truth about the attacks is revealed, Fiona must learn to trust Nate…or face history repeating itself.
This started out as a short story that kind of took on a life of its own. If you read my May release, Killer Exposure, you'll recognize Nate (he is Owen's partner). Nate is one of those characters who simply could not be contained by a short story, and so I just kept writing!
One of my favorite characters in this story isn't a person at all, but rather a cat. Fiona has had Slinky, a big gray cat, since she was a teenager. He started out svelte, but as the years passed he grew a bit (doesn't that happen to us all?!). He's now large and in charge, and he definitely makes his presence known. Nate isn't used to being around cats, so he's not quite sure what to make of Slinky.
My little stinkers :) |
I always love to include animals in my books when I can, because they're such an important part of my life. I grew up with cats and I currently have two of my own, Josh and Toby. They definitely make life interesting! My husband wants us to get a dog, but I told him we need to wait until Little Roo grows up a bit--there's only so much poo I can handle right now! Any other pet lovers out there?

DeleteHI Lara,
ReplyDeleteWe have 3 rescue cats now. Before we had 2 Shelties. I love Dog and Cats.
I love rescues!
DeleteI have five cats. They were a litter that someone wanted to drop off at the pound and I just couldn't get it over my heart to see them go. Glad I didn't. I adore them. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAwww... It's so fun to have sibling animals!
DeleteWe've got a puppy that's a Chihuahua, or possibly a Chihuahua mix. He's a pain, but he's too adorable to be mad at for long.
