My Long-Time Friend...Lisa B. Kamps

THE WARRIOR: DERRICK
Cover Six Security, #4

These men never back away from danger—and always fall hard for love in Cover Six Security, an explosive new series from USA Today Bestselling Author Lisa B. Kamps.

Derrick "Chaos" Biggs lives mostly in the shadows, tethered by nothing more than a deep-seated code of honor and the knowledge that his actions are for the greater good. A failed mission forces him to walk away from his former life and he finds a new purpose working with Cover Six Security. The rules aren't quite as loose, the work is just as satisfying--and there's no chance of his soul being swallowed by the darkness of his past. Or so he thinks...

Lidiya Stephenson is caught between two worlds: one of her own making, and one born of the sins of her grandfather. When she's threatened by the secrets of his past, she turns to the only person she dares to trust, an online colleague she knows only as Chaos.

Trust is a valuable commodity, one in short supply as the couple navigates a confusing maze of secrets and deceit while fighting their searing attraction for each other. But time is running out and when someone decides that the secrets must die with Lidiya, Chaos is thrust back into the shadow world he's come to hate. Only this time, he won't be able to walk away--not without risking his sanity, his heart...and their lives.

LISA B. KAMPS is a USA Today Bestselling Author who writes steamy romance with real-life characters and relatable stories that evoke deep emotion. She likes her men hard, her bed soft, her coffee strong, her whiskey neat, and her wine chilled...and when it comes to sports, hockey is the only thing that matters!

Lisa currently lives in Maryland with her husband and two sons (who are mostly sorta-kinda out of the house), one very spoiled Border Collie, two cats with major attitude, several head of cattle, and entirely too many chickens to count. When she's not busy writing or chasing animals, she's cheering loudly for her favorite hockey team, the Washington Capitals--or going through withdrawal and waiting for October to roll back around!

THE Q&A
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
LISA: As often as possible...but we all say that, don't we? It's what we, as readers, do :)! I don't get the chance anymore to read as voraciously as I want to, but I still try to read at least one book a week--more if I'm not on deadline or in the middle of a project. And yes, I read while I'm writing (not at the same time, I can't multi-task *that* well, LOL). I know a lot of writers don't but I find that disappearing into a great story allows me to disappear from reality for a bit and keeps my mind fresh for when I go back to my own project in the morning.

ANGI: What’s your favorite thing about your book’s hero?
LISA: In The Warrior: DERRICK, it's his steel core of integrity coupled with his firm belief that his past has chiseled away at his soul and humanity until he's just a shell of his former self (tortured hero, anyone? Yes, that's the way I love them!). Derrick's shadowed past is filled with things that have left him scarred as a man but he's learned to live with those memories and regrets as part of what he sees as his penance. It's his imperfection and his ability for hope (though he doesn't admit to it) that really draws me to him.

ANGI: What’s your perfect day?
LISA: My perfect day in reality, or my perfect day in my fantasy world? Because yeah, there's a difference :).

In reality, it's waking up to see the sunrise while sipping on the perfect cup of coffee and just enjoying *being* for thirty minutes or so. Then it's hitting the computer and having all the words flow just right, with the story pulling me in until I realize I've lost all track of time and it's now time for dinner. Then it's spending time with hubby (and the kids if they stop by) and just relaxing until bedtime.

In my fantasy world, it's doing all of that but while on a catamaran cruising around the islands and soaking up the sun, water, breeze, and a total disconnect from the outside world. Well, okay, maybe a little more of the soaking and lot less of the writing :)!

ANGI: Salad or soup?
LISA: Depends on the time of year. Salads (preferably with meat--I need my protein!) during the hot summer months. Soups (okay, more like stews and chili) during the colder months.

ANGI: Would you put yourself in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
LISA: Oh please...Action Adventure all the way. I mean, nothing wrong with Fairy Tales but put me with Mulan or Merida any day over Snow White or Aurora!

ANGI: Favorite TV rerun you watch every time you channel surf?
LISA: I'm actually not a huge TV person--never have been--so I don't do much of the channel surfing thing. If I turn the TV on, it's because I'm usually looking for something specific, and that's generally the old seasons of Criminal Minds or the Law & Order franchises. Now, that's not to say I won't get lost in reruns of MASH or Gilligan's Island if I happen to see them on :).

Although...I just recently got Netflix (don't judge me) and binged Sherlock and OMG I found a new favorite, so maybe I'll have to add to that list later!

ANGI: Favorite date night…fancy or at home?
LISA: Definitely "out" but not necessarily fancy. I work from home so staying-in just feels like an extension of that. And while getting all dressed up in fancy dress occasionally is fun, it's not an every-date-night kind of thing. Honestly, some of our best nights out are hitting the local Mexican place for flautas and margaritas and just kicking back and spending time with each other!

ANGI: Geek or Jock?
LISA: Neither. While there's nothing wrong with either of those, I'm definitely more into the adventurer or country boy. Not saying that the adventurer/country boy can't be a geek *and* a jock, too, but I like my men to be self-reliant and well-rounded :)

ANGI: The most daring thing you’ve ever done… Care to share?
LISA: Welllllll...one person's daring is another person's "normal" so this is a really tough question to answer. *I*, personally, don't think some of these are "daring" but I've had people look at me like I'm crazy when I name them so you can be the judge:
  • ·         Running into burning buildings (although you don't really "run" so much as move fast because of that whole time/adrenaline thing going on)
  • ·         Scuba diving
  • ·         Repelling (the higher/rockier/rougher, the better)
  • ·         Ziplining (no idea why some people freak over this because it's really kind of tame)
  • ·         Ridden on the back of a motorcycle going almost 100 mph (okay, that definitely falls more into the category of too-stupid-to-contemplate but I was young and stupid then)
  • ·         Bungee jumping
  • ·         White water rafting
  • ·         ATVing in the mountains (where we actually encountered a bear...whoops!)

·         Next on the list is skydiving...I just can't find anyone to go with me!

ANGI’s GOTTA ASK:  SHOW ME YOUR FAVORITE SHOES…
LISA’S GOTTA ANSWER:  My boots. 100% my boots. And not just any boots, because I have more than a few pairs--I'm talking my shark skin Hondos that I got out in Cheyenne, WY in 1996. Yes, I still have them. Yes, I still wear them. Everywhere. They've been around the world with me. I love everything about them, from the way they look, to the way they feel, to the way they add just a bit of sass and kick-butt attitude to every step! There's just something about a pair of boots :)!

The Rescuer: WOLF
Cover Six Security #5

Sebastian "Wolf" Wood. Former soldier. Medic. Loveable, loyal...and lethal. He knows better than anyone that appearances can be deceiving and he has no problem exploiting his cover-model good looks to get what he wants, especially when it's for the success of a mission. He's done it before , he'll do it again—until the one mission where the tables get turned by a storybook beauty whose bite is worse than her bark and who leaves him trying to figure out what's real—and what's an illusion.

Peyton Richards is getting a second chance at her big break—a chance most people would kill for. But her excitement at making a comeback is overshadowed by her irrational attraction to the man hired to watch over her—a man who looks like he'd be more at home on a California beach than as a bodyguard. A man who seems to relish butting heads and irritating her at every turn while stealing kisses that leave her breathless. A man who's entirely too comfortable in a glittering world where everyone is pretending to be someone else.

When a publicity stunt goes terribly wrong and it becomes obvious that someone wants Peyton out of the picture—permanently—it's up to Sebastian to keep her safe. To do that, he needs to breach her defenses and show her that it's what you can't see that's real—and if he fails, it's only a matter of time before the game of fantasy and make-believe lures them into a nightmarish hell of lies, deceit...and death.

THE PROTECTOR: MAC
Cover Six Security, book 1

Gordon "Mac" MacGregor swore an oath to protect and defend—an oath he continues to uphold as a former Army Ranger specializing in dark ops private security with Cover Six Security. Danger is a constant companion—and one of the few things that make him feel alive. He doesn't expect that danger to come in the form of the Tabitha "TR" Meyers, the only woman who sees him for who he truly is—and the only woman he's ever sworn off.

TR rarely abides by the rules, not when there's something she needs—and right now, she needs Mac. She enlists his help for one night, thinking she can simply walk away when it's over. But that one night is just the beginning, thrusting both of them into a dangerous web of scandal and cover-up with roots that run deeper than either of them expects.

When TR becomes an unwitting pawn in a game of deception and revenge, Mac will do anything to protect her—even if it means risking his own heart.

PLAYING HIS PART
A York Bombers Hockey Romance, #7

This marriage of convenience is about to teach him a big life lesson...

Ben Leach, a defenseman for the York Bombers, has everything in life he could want—except happiness. Terminally miserable, he's settled into his rut with the acceptance of someone who knows he doesn't deserve any better—until he runs into an old acquaintance during a quick trip to Las Vegas...a trip that changes everything.

Natalie Kenney is on the run thanks to a stalker ex who thinks she belongs to him. Running into her old friend's brother couldn't have come at a better time and, in an impulsive move that surprises her, she accepts his half-hearted attempt to rescue her.

But the rescue comes with consequences. The new couple suddenly finds themselves in positions neither one expected, faced with challenges—and threats—that push them both out of their comfort zones. Will their new relationship lead to something more, or is it merely a marriage in name only? Ben expects it to crash-and-burn like the happiness that always seems to be just out of his reach and when the final buzzer sounds, he needs to decide if he's simply playing a part or if life—and love—is a lot more than a spectator sport.
