Get Lost In A New Series from Debut Author Cissie Patterson

Widow Grace Tupper is struggling to rebuild her life after suffering a devastating loss. Could becoming a mail order bride be the answer? One ad speaks to her heart and provides hope. Is this the solution to repairing her shattered dreams or the start of a new nightmare?

Sheriff Colt Matthews has no desire to marry again. Yet, despite his determination to remain single, he must consider the needs of his young daughter. Would a mother’s touch help her find the healing she needs? Is true love needed if hope exists? Journey to Freedom, Colorado in this new mail-order bride romance series and discover surprises along the way.

On a train to Colorado, 1883

Grace awoke with a start. The sound of the train wheels reminded her of all she’d lost – You can’t go back, you can’t go back, you can’t go back. Grace’s eyes filled with tears as she stared out the window at the rain. This awful rain – she’d been on this train for three days now, and the rain had started to fall within the first few hours of her journey. It matched her gloomy mood and most likely brought on the nightmare again — the day life as she knew it ended. Almost three years had gone by. It had been too long since she had last seen her darling Anna. If only she’d have known when she put her to bed that night, that Henry would reappear and take their daughter away. She didn’t know where her baby was. She didn’t know if Anna was alive or dead — she only knew that she had to find a way to keep on living.

As the train ride entered into its third evening, Grace pulled out the letter and read it again. The letter that gave her courage to begin a new life, a life out West, a life where happiness would still elude her but a fresh start was guaranteed. A life with Charlie Thornton in Freedom, Colorado.

Future bride,
Are you looking for a new life? A life filled with choices and freedom to be yourself? I am looking for someone to join me in Colorado. I own my own claim, and it is doing well. I am looking for a female who wishes to experience the western adventure.
If you are between the ages of twenty and twenty-five, are able to cook and manage a home, then I am looking for you. A desire to have children is a bonus but not a requirement.
I am willing to support you as we discover each other’s interests. Let’s not fool ourselves into believing love will be immediate. We must grow together as friends first as we develop a mutual respect. If this arrangement interests you, please reply to me in Freedom, Colorado.
Charlie Thornton
Freedom. Freedom! If ever God was talking to her, this letter was it. Grace needed to escape and find freedom. She had a little money of her own saved and if Charlie Thornton wasn’t the man for her, she’d forge a new life for herself. She was free of Henry and his controlling ways. She was free to begin again and maybe, just maybe, she’d find a way to be free to forgive herself for losing Anna. She closed her eyes and let the movement of the train rock her to sleep.

Meet Cissie

Born in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Cissie Patterson lives in southeast Michigan with her husband and two children. She likes to read (and write) historical western romance. She spends much of her time in the Pioneer Hearts group on Facebook, promoting many fabulous authors of the genre. Besides reading, her life is filled with her children and family and editing for several authors.

Mail Order Moments (Brides of Beckham): http://amzn.to/2lYg06B

E.E.: Why did you start to write?
Cissie: I have to thank Kirsten Osbourne, the author of the Brides of Beckham series, for encouraging me to write. I’m not sure encouragement is a strong enough word though. She was gracious enough to allow me to write in her Brides of Beckham series and reunite her two matchmakers (Harriet Long and Elizabeth Miller) through the mail-order matchup of family members.  When I lost a close friend, I decided it was time to stop dreaming about writing and try my hand at it. Worst case would be that nobody would read my story. Instead, readers loved the story of Ida Mae Miller and Simon Farmer.
E.E.: How often do you get lost in a story?
Cissie: I am always lost in a story. My family has a hard time talking to me when I’m reading because I just don’t hear them. When writing, my head is twelve details ahead of where it should be, thinking about facts I want to weave into my storyline.
E.E.: What’s the first book you remember reading?
Cissie: Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew. I love books with a bit of mystery.
E.E.: What’s your favorite “love” word?
Cissie: Strength and support. When I think of love, I think of a man who has quiet strength that will support me and all that I do.
E.E.: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
Cissie: I would probably say The Little Mermaid. I love to swim and I love the water. I think I would want to trade my legs for a tail and find an underwater prince.
E.E.: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
Cissie: Tigger. No matter what happens in life, Tigger always bounces back and nothing seems to get him down. He’s just fun, fun, fun!
Cissie will give away a signed print copy of Mail Order Moment (Brides of Beckham) and an ebook of her latest, Grace's Hope. Enter the Rafflecopter below and leave a comment:

MEET ABBIE ROADS

Five Things about Abbie Roads:

1. She loves Snicker Parfaits. Gotta start with what’s most important, right?

2. She writes dark emotional books featuring damaged characters, but always gives her hero and heroine a happy ending… after torturing them for three hundred pages.

3. By day she’s a mental health counselor known for her blunt, honest style of therapy. At night she burns up the keyboard. Well… Burn might be too strong a word. She at least sits with her hands poised over the keyboard, waiting for inspiration to strike. And when it does—the keyboard might get a little warm.

4. She can’t stand it when people drive slowly in the passing lane. Just saying. That’s major annoying. Right?

5. She loves taking pictures of things she thinks are pretty.
Nan: Love this!

Let's talk about RACE THE DARKNESS

READ A LITTLE
I’m dying.
Tension grabbed hold of his spine. His heart stuttered, stopped, started again.
Those two words, spoken in that female voice, were not a product of The Bastard In His Brain. Those words were an auditory hallucination—another enduring effect of the lightning strike.
It’d been a long time since that voice had spoken to him. But still, there was only one sane way to deal with it—booze. There was another way to get rid of the voice, but that involved psych meds and a trip to the nut house. And he had a severe nut allergy.
Nan: I can't wait for my copy to show up on my Nook!

PREORDER THE BOOK

A LIGHTING ROUND OF Q&A WITH ABBIE ROADS

NAN: How often do you get lost in a story?
ABBIE: My answer now is a lot different than it was before I started writing. Before I started writing I got lost in a story ALL THE TIME! Just about every book captured me. I read everything. But since I’ve started writing, I find myself critiquing everything I read. It’s very difficult for me to shut off that internal editor. But I’ve found a work-around. Audiobooks! I am way more forgiving in audio format than I am in print/digital format. I think that’s because I edit my own manuscript on paper and in the computer, but I don’t edit it by listening. The last audiobook I got lost in was PROMISE OF FIRE by Amanda Bouchet.
 Nan: That's fascinating!

NAN: What sound or noise do you love?
ABBIE:  I love nature sounds. Birds singing on a spring morning. Crickets and tree frogs making their night noises. Cicadas. Bullfrogs. The whisper of wind through pine trees. Waves crashing onto the shore. The silence of a heavy snow.
Nan: I think that comes through in some of the photos you share.

NAN:  What’s your favorite movie of all time?
ABBIE: I’ve got a thing for  The Last of the Mohicans starring Daniel Day Lewis. It’s the only movie I saw more than once in the theatre. I can’t remember exactly how many times I saw it, but it was more than two and less than six. And that’s not counting how many times I watched it on VHS at home. Or how many times I’ve watched it on DVD. I’ve practically got the thing memorized. And I alway always always cry when Uncas and Alice die at the end. Hawkeye was my movie boyfriend. I loved that he would do whatever it took to keep Cora safe. Even when Cora didn’t understand. And call me a bit twisted, but I love a man who’s willing to kill anyone who threatens his woman.
Nan: Oh yeah.

NAN: Who’s your favorite villain?
ABBIE: Hannibal Lecter! Oh, how I love him. Maybe it’s because he’s a psychiatrist and I’m a therapist and it intrigues me that someone in the helping profession could use his ability to twist people. The thing I love the most about Hannibal is that—in the books—he heals Starling. He forces her to confront the ghosts of her past and see them for what they are and deal with them. And somewhere along the way makes her fall in love with him.

NAN:  Describe an absolutely perfect day.
ABBIE:  Sleeping in. Not having to go anywhere. Not having to do anything. Just being with my husband and my dogs.
Nan: Sounds lovely.

NAN: What’s your favorite rerun?
ABBIE: Golden Girls! I love Rose, Blanche, Dorothy, and Sophia. I remember watching them when I was growing up. They made me laugh then and still make me laugh now. Every once in awhile I binge watch a bunch of episodes and even though I know what’s going to happen, I can’t help but laugh. It’s one of those shows that puts me in a good mood for watching it. Not like Little House on the Prairie reruns. Every time I watch one of those I end up crying at the end. I didn’t realize what a sad show it was until I watched it as an adult!

NAN'S GOTTA ASK:  What’s the last show you binge watched?
ABBIE'S GOTTA ANSWER: I’m binge watching Shameless right now. The show makes me laugh, makes me sad, makes go OMGOMGOMG—I can’t believe what I just saw!
Nan: I might have to check that one out!

READ A LITTLE
Sadly, I don't have any excerpts in the wild yet. But there IS an exclusive chapter reveal coming soon on Bustle! And since I'm a firm believer in consolation prizes, here's a tiny taste of what you can expect from SUMMER OF SUPERNOVAS…

Nan: Love it!

PRE-ORDER THE BOOK

A LIGHTING ROUND OF Q&A WITH DARCEY WOODS
NAN: How often to you get lost in a story?
DARCY: Every single day if I'm living right! Unfortunately I don't get to devour books at the speed I once did, but I still make reading a daily practice. That's what fills the well. Even if it's only thirty minutes while I'm sweating my ass off on the elliptical--I'll take it wherever I can get it! Next up in my diet of YA reads? The Darkest Lie by Pintip Dunn. Secrets, lies, and tangled truths… I AM SOLD!!!
Nan: I can't wait to read that one, too.  My TBR pile is toppling over!

NAN:  What is your hope for the future of the romance genre?
DARCY: Hold on, let me grab my rose-colored glasses. Ah, that's better. I dream of a world where people don't feel the need to apologize when they say they read romance. If a book makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes your heart hammer, makes you contemplate your immortal soul, or simply offers an escape from your own reality--THAT BOOK IS IMPORTANT. Which makes any preconceived notions about a genre's worth, irrelevant.
Nan: I can't wait for that to become a reality.

NAN: High Heels or Hiking Boots?
DARCY: No contest…HEELS. (Although never while hiking because I'm a practical gal at heart.) But I do require very specific heels--the kind with wedges and/or platforms. Since my affair with gravity is lifelong and I've been known to take an inelegant tumble, stability is key! And they need to be FUN. Here's one of my fave pairs that will accompany me to Nationals this year. I pretty much live in the shadow of these shoes.
Nan: I love these shoes!  They are so you!

NAN: Which already filmed movie represents your writing style?
DARCY: This is such a magnificent question! I honestly never gave it much thought until some recent reviewers mentioned it. So I'm going to sponge off their collective awesome and say, John Hughes. Think Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink for the millenials. Lots of humor. Lots of heart.
Nan: Fabulous comparisons.

NAN: What was the first story you remember writing?
DARCY: Oh, I'll do you one better, Nan! I have actual photographic evidence of one of the first short stories I wrote when I was four. As you'll see, it's a rather complex tale of an unlikely friendship between Fred the Shiny Frog, and Chipy the Chipmunk. They played. They shared. All was peaceful. It wasn't until much later I learned about this thing called conflict. (And also spelling and vocabulary, but I digress…)
Nan: This is too funny!  Obviously, you were born to write.

NAN: What could we find in your heroine's purse?
DARCY: Well, her purse would definitely be vintage. And it would have her favorite lipstick--Parisian Pout, her license (even though she doesn't have her own car), a guitar pick from a forbidden boy, a tampon that will likely fall out at the worst possible moment, and her soul mate's astrology chart. Also, if physics allowed, she would squeeze in one of her gram's Hubba Hubba Hazelnut cupcakes.
Nan: I want one in my purse.  Which would not be vintage!

NAN'S GOTTA ASK: What color would you make the sky if it wasn’t going to be blue anymore and why?

DARCY'S GOTTA ANSWER:  Purple! I have ALWAYS had an affinity for the color purple. When I was little, I went through a phase where it was the only color I wanted to wear. So basically I went through a chunk of my childhood looking like a grape. But I stand by my fruity color!
Nan: Love purple!

DARCY WOODS WANTS TO KNOW: Nan's question about my heroine's purse got me thinking… What's the strangest thing or combination of things in your purse right now?

Me? I just found not one, but THREE different tubes of lipstick, plus a Cheddar Bunny with missing hindquarters.

So? What treasures did YOU find???

Nan:  Thank you for hanging with the crew today, Darcy!  Prosecco pouring for a fantastic launch of your debut.

Darcy's drawing will be open through Sunday - so please comment for a chance to win.
