Get Lost With Sabrina Garie!

Hi, folks! Please help me welcome Sabrina Garie to the blog! I'm friends with her sister and through our writing we've gotten to know each other, too. She's a great lady and an awesome writer! So let's get busy...

WHO IS SABRINA?

Sabrina Garie is on a journey to create the most kick-ass heroine romance fiction has ever known and the hero who can take her. A believer that big, audacious goals spice up life, she relies on coffee, red wine and laughter to make those goals (and her characters) come alive. When not at the computer, she wrangles vegetables and extra helpings of homework into her fashion-loving progeny, kowtows to a fat cat and reads, a lot. Since it is more fun to travel in packs, come along for the ride.

THE STORY BLURB

Annie’s always been different. An empathic Amazon, she hides her emotional anomaly beneath her legendary fighting skills. To avoid passing on her genetic disorder, she’s always avoided the Thirteen Nights Ritual—the annual breeding rite among the warrior races of the Greek Pantheon. Only months away from 30, she is now duty-bound to participate. When she meets Tai, a half-human warrior who revs her up beyond legal limits and nurtures the gentleness she’s had to keep secret, thirteen nights of pleasure don’t seem nearly enough.

As a half human, Tai has survived by being faster, more lethal, and a whole lot smarter than his brethren. While the male warriors accept him for his achievements, the Amazons have never given him a second look. Until he meets Annie, whose smile is warm and real and whose body shudders with desire—for him. Determined to have her, he hacks into the Thirteen Nights database and rearranges the pairings to make Annie his breeding partner. Together, their strength and tenderness combust into pure love.

But Tai’s actions are forbidden under Amazon law, subject to a death. To stay together and alive, they must take on the Greek Pantheon and win.

And now, Sabrina in her own words...
ALEXA: How often do you get lost in a story?
SABRINA: Whenever I possibly can. Being a single parent with a full-time job and my writing, finding time to actually read can be a challenge. So I’ve learned to take 10 minute lose-myself breaks. Even if I can zone into a story for five-ten minutes a day, I will do so. It is most likely to happen either before I go to bed or on the metro on the way home. Thank goodness for the kindle app on my phone.

ALEXA:  What’s the first book you remember reading?
SABRINA:  The first book that really made an impression and remains one of my favorite books is Madeline L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time. I really related to the geeky high school heroine Meg Murray. She was awkward, smart, doggedly loyal to her family and socially isolated, like I felt in my youth. She was the kind of friend I had always hoped to have and gave me hope that life would end up happy, even if the journey was hard.

ALEXA:  What is your biggest vice?
SABRINA: Ice cream, hands down. I love the stuff. I’ve been known to eat it in pint-sized portions.

ALEXA:   I can totally understand that. Do you write while listening to music? If so what kind?
SABRINA:  I write in silence. I don’t think that’s all that common, but I find music can be distracting. I like the quiet, it helps me stay focused, and allows space for ideas to come.

ALEXA: Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay any attention to them, or let them influence your writing?
SABRINA:  Yes, I read them. I want to see how people feel about my stories and how they interpret them. Their opinions and insights help me think about my writing and think through my writing. I still write to meet my own expectations, but the writer is only one teller of a story. Readers also co-create the narrative. I write what I write but each person reads it through their own lens. It’s exciting to see how they add to its possible interpretation.

ALEXA: What will always make you smile, even on a bad day?
SABRINA:  My daughter’s laugh. That never fails to cheer me up.

ALEXA: There's just something awesome about children's laughter that affects all of us, I think. What’s the best present you ever received?
SABRINA: Of course, everything my daughter gives is the best. But I have a great story here, especially for a romance audience, which I have to share. When I was in college, I went to Mexico with my grandmother over winter break.  When I returned home from the airport, there was a huge wrapped box on our driveway.  My boyfriend had wrapped himself up as my holiday present because he thought we should spend the holidays together.

ALEXA:   What drew you to write in the genre(s) you do?
SABRINA: I love to make stuff up, so genres like fantasy, paranormal and science fiction (I am hoping to publish a sci fi romance next year) that allow me free reign in world-building are the places for me. I have written one contemporary. While that was fun, it was missing something for me in the creativity space.

ALEXA:   Which already filmed movie represents your writing style?
SABRINA:  Any kids film, because they tend to be shorter and more precisely packaged. So if you prefer shorter books but with complete stories, I’m your author.

ALEXA: What's up next for you?
SABRINA: Life Reignited (Book 2: Divine Temptation)
We return to the world of the Pantheons with Phoebe, another Amazon warrior, and Sander, a human. They are Tai’s parents, who meet again for the first time in thirty years, for a second chance at love. This is still very much a work in progress but expected publication date is September 2014.

Thanks for visiting with use today, Sabrina! Folks, Sabrina will give away one ecopy of a book from her back list to one commenter, so share your thoughts!

Get Lost in Georgie Lee's Classic Hollywood Romance

Studio Relations
Georgie Lee

Vivien Howard hasn’t forgiven Weston Holmes for almost derailing her career five years ago. Female directors in 1930s Hollywood are few and far between, and a man who coasts by on his good looks and family connections can’t possibly appreciate what it took for her to get to where she is. But when the studio head puts Weston in charge of overseeing Vivien’s ambitious Civil War film, she realizes she has a choice: make nice with her charismatic new boss or watch a replacement director destroy her dream.

Weston Holmes doesn’t know much about making movies, but he knows plenty about money. And thanks to the Depression, ticket sales are dangerously low. The studio can’t afford a flop—or bad press, which is exactly what threatens to unfold when an innocent encounter between Weston and Vivien is misconstrued by the gossip rags. The only solution? A marriage of convenience that will force the bickering duo into an unlikely alliance—and guide them to their own happy Hollywood ending.

Welcome back to Get Lost in a Story, Georgie.

A dedicated history and film buff, Georgie Lee loves combining her passion for Hollywood, history and storytelling through romantic fiction. She began writing professionally at a small TV station in San Diego before moving to Los Angeles to work in the interesting but strange world of the entertainment industry.

Her first novel, Lady’s Wager, and her contemporary novella, Rock ‘n’ Roll Reunion are both available from Ellora’s Cave Blush. Labor Relations, a contemporary romance of Hollywood, and Studio Relations, a love story set in 1935 Hollywood, are currently available from Montlake Romance. Look for her Regency novella, Hero’s Redemption from Carina Press in July 2013, and her Regency novel, Engagement of Convenience, from Harlequin Historical on October 2013.

When not writing, Georgie enjoys reading non-fiction history and watching any movie with a costume and an accent. Please visit  www.georgie-lee.com for more information about Georgie and her novels.

Jillian: What’s the first book you remember reading?
Georgie: The first books I remember hearing were Don Quixote and Tom Sawyer. My mom used to read them to me when I was very little. The first book I remember reading is My Very Own Seasons by Chisachi Suehiro. I still have my old copy on my bookshelf.
Jillian: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
Georgie: At one time The Little Mermaid was my favorite. Then Disney released Beauty and the Beast and it blew the mermaid out of the water. I love Belle and Beast, though I do recognize that Disney has had an undue influence on my response to fairy tales.

Jillian: Where do you read and how often?
Georgie: I usually read before bed, except when I’m on a deadline. I will also confess that I keep a book in the bathroom. Enough said.

Jillian: What sound or noise do you love?
Georgie: I love the sound of wind chimes, especially the metal tube ones. I have two outside and the tinkling sound on a breezy day is beautiful. However, during a major windstorm at 2am, not so much.

Jillian: What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in?
Georgie: I don’t write post-apocolyptic stories but I love them. The Stand and The Handmaid’s Tale are two of my top three favorite books. I’ll leave readers to guess which book fills out the top three (hint: the making of the 1939 movie based on this book inspired a number of scenes in Studio Relations).

Jillian: Do you write while listening to music? If so what kind?
Georgie: I cannot write and listen to music at the same time. I find it is too distracting. However, I will use music to brainstorm. Soundtracks from movies set in the time period I’m writing in are usually the most helpful.

Jillian: If you couldn’t be a writer anymore, what profession would you take up?
Georgie: I think I’d become royalty. I could totally rule a country. Or maybe just a small island somewhere.

Georgie has a question for commenters: Studio Relations is set in 1935 Hollywood. Gone with the Wind is my favorite classic film. What are some of your favorite classic Hollywood films?

Get Lost With Lexi Post

Folks, help me welcome a writer friend of mine who recently sold her first book! I'm so proud of her for sticking with her goal and seeing her dream come true! And now, here's your chance to get to know her....

WHO IS LEXI POST?
Lexi Post spent years in higher education taking and teaching courses about classical literature. From the Medieval work "The Pearl" to the 20th century American epic The Grapes of Wrath, from War and Peace to the Bhagavad Gita, she's read, studied, and taught great classic literature.

But Lexi's first love is romance novels. In an effort to marry her two first loves, she started writing erotic romance inspired by the classics and found she loved it.  Lexi feels there is no end to the romantic inspiration she can find in great classic literature.

Lexi lives with her husband and cat in the Caribbean where gorgeous sunsets, warm weather, and driving on the left are the norm.
MASQUE
Rena Mills plans to turn an abandoned abbey into a haunted bed-and-breakfast to prove she can be successful without her ex-fiancƩ. What she finds inside is Synn MacAllistair, the distinguished, self-proclaimed Ghost Keeper. Her dreams soon fill with sexual cravings for him. But are they dreams?
Synn, born in 1828, is determined to free the souls of the resident spirits, blaming himself for bringing the Red Death that killed them. When Rena steps into the old Pleasure Palace, he’s sure he can take her through the after-midnight Pleasure Rooms and stoke her passion to complete the Masque so the souls can cross over. Her innocent fire makes him crave more, but it’s far too late for him.

As Rena begins her erotic journey, her heart becomes more involved with every sensual caress until she discovers by completing the Masque she would lose her ghosts. Synn’s betrayal wars with her compassion for her ghostly friends. Torn, she must make a choice between her financial security and freeing seventy-three trapped souls. Either way, she could lose her Synn.
WHATS UP NEXT FOR LEXI?
I plan to submit to my editor this month, and I hope she likes it, To Bea Rappaccini which is inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story “Rappaccini’s Daughter.” Only my Bea Rappaccini must have sex to expel the poisons her body produces. Either that or die. Unfortunately, her poisons also make men extremely ill and she has unintentionally sent one into a coma! So when she falls for Zach, things get interesting.
AND NOW FOR THE Q & A:
ALEXA: Why did you choose the classics to inspire your erotic romances?
LEXI: I’ve always loved reading and my father was an English major so I was pretty much destined to read great literature. I was an English major in all my degrees and I still teach literature today. There was only one thing missing from all the wonderful literature I read . . . a happy ending. My instinct for romance wanted the happy ending, so when I decided to write erotic romance, I thought why not give my favorites a happy ending only in today’s world? At first I was a bit concerned that a few authors may turn over in their graves, but if I just one person decided to re-read the original story before reading mine, maybe they could forgive me.
ALEXA: How often do you get lost in a story?
LEXI: All the time! When Im reading, I could experience an earthquake and not realize it. I tune everything out . . . if its a good romance novel.
ALEXA: Whats your favorite fairy tale?
LEXI: Beauty and the Beast. I love the idea of a woman falling in love with a hero because of who he is and not because of how he looks.
ALEXA: What sound or noise do you love?
LEXI: I love silence. I know, very strange in a day of iPods and MP3 players. But the fact is, I enjoy the calmness of quiet and my own thoughts. Much easier to create characters that way. Of course, living only 50 feet of sand from the Caribbean ocean means that I have come to love the sound of the waves lapping at the shore.
ALEXA: What turns you off like nothing else?
LEXI: People who live in this world and simply take from it, never add to it, and suck away life from others.
ALEXA: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you've met?
LEXI:Yes. I married him. No, really. He was military police in the Air Force and became a sharp shooter and a guard for generals. Then he was an EMT before becoming a fire fighter. As a Fire Chief he never lost a man. On his off-time, I have witnessed him run into two burning buildings and single-handedly get the fire under control. Hes also stubbornly honorable and a real rule stickler. Just ask the Coast Guard guys hes working with now J In addition, he swept me off my feet in Scotland, sings my praises to everyone he meets, and to this day cooks me dinner every night. Thats beyond my definition of a real-life hero.
ALEXA: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
LEXI: Either one as long as it has a happy ending. I will no longer read books or watch movies that dont end happily. There is enough heart ache and horror in our reality. I see no reason to spend my entertainment time dwelling on that.
ALEXA: What is your biggest vice?
LEXI: Ice cream.
ALEXA: What do you do to unwind and relax?
LEXI: The closest I get to unwinding is lying on the beach in the warm Caribbean sun. The only reason I say closest is because that is where a lot of my story scenes happen in my head, so Im not sure thats relaxing. I used to relax in a hot tub, but dont own one anymore L The fact is, when I want to relax, I go to sleep. I can sleep anywhere at any time.
ALEXA: What would you say is your most interesting quirk?
LEXI: I dont know if it is a quirk, but it is something that people know me for and makes them smile. I wear very bright colors, usually in solids with hats and shoes/boots to match. For my professional photo as an erotic romance author, I pulled out a suit I had deep in my closet because I wanted to look serious. Im not sure it worked. I still have my 5 year-old looking nose and dimples.
ALEXA: Lexi, thanks so much for coming to hang out with us today. Before you go, do you have a question for your fans?
LEXI: Yes. What classic story would you like to see inspiring an erotic romance?
All right, folks! There's your question! Leave your answer in the comment section and one blog commenter will be the lucky winner of this Venetian mask with feathers that was made in Italy!
